Been looking at getting a mid range media / gaming laptop and it seems that Acer with the 6920/6930/6935 range seem to have the best range of affordability and good specs in the laptops.

But I was wondering about build quality, I had a shot with one of them in Carphone Warehouse and it seems very cheap and breakable is this the case or are the good quality built laptops?

I haven't had any build quality issues with my 6920G. It lights up like a Christmas tree when plugged in with all the LEDs everywhere, though.
And it does have that nasty throttling issue.

The build quality is pretty good, though some of my keys are starting to wear. LEDs are a bit annoying at night (when I'm downloading overnight lol) but I guess at least I don't have throttling.

LOL! It is beautiful, my friends love it.
However, when I was sleeping, the LED light is too strong. =.=!
My stingy granny always complain why I switch on everything while I sleep =.=!

The build on the 6930 is good. Only problem I really have with it is key placements but I use a USB keyboard most of the time. The screen doesn't pull back very far if you're the type to not use a desk. Maybe 120 degrees from the keyboard. The cooling system is really quite and pretty effective as well. The touchpad is pretty uncomfortable to work with since it's kind of scratchy but I've used it enough to make it smooth. Also, the RAM sticks are right under where your left palm would be so it may be uncomfortable to type with.

I love my Acer 6930G and as it was said it does run unexpectedly pretty cool. For the price you pay and the specs, the Acers are very good. But I never had any problems with the quality. BTW carphone warehouse is expensive for laptops. I am pretty sure I can get you the same spec laptop with £100 less. The laptops they have there, the Acer 6930G is the best quality in my opinion, unless you see a Sony one. But if you feel the laptop is cheap then you have a different taste so I think a Sony will be better for you as they use metal like the Apple does now. But most of the other brands are using plastic a lot.

Acer is selling laptop in a very low price indeed. However, the downside is Acer doesn't or very seldom create/sell higher-end laptop(high spec like alienware or sager).
I think Acer have low price because of the bloatware.

Metal is very expensive, plastic is way cheaper.

You are right, you won't find a very high-end spec in an Acer laptop line like with 2 x GPUs but overall they are decent.

But believe me, most of the brands have bloatware, even though Acer is getting worse (comparing my old 5920G to my new 6930G). Still you can uninstall all that crap anyway.

I wouldn't buy from CPW, the one they had was a 9300 GPU, and it was an old display model so I may pop into PC World or somewhere to get a better look around,
