Hi,
I have got a acer aspire 6930g with nvidia geforce 9300m seperate card graphics, can these be upgraded?
Also, what other upgrade options can I do for this laptop?
Also, it has bluray player, I have the right player but has started saying I do not have the correct driver to play even though it used to play them fine?
Thanks
Nathan

I don't think the 9300M was ever made in MXM format. It is a separate card but embedded in the motherboard.
Bottom line: You can't upgrade/replace/ etc. -
The 6930G uses a 9300M GS MXM-I card, and is definitely upgradeable. Check my research if ye doubt me.
Look for a 9600M GS or 9600M GT as upgrades, as the 6930G is regularly sold with these two.
Other upgrade options? Unless you've got a need to game soon, I'd start with maxing the RAM, then looking at the hard drive, then the CPU, THEN the GPU.
You need a WHQL-certified video driver in order to watch protected video like Blu-ray. Go to Nvidia.com and download the latest driver there. -
Thanks for that info, ive been trying to find the 4gb ram modules on the net in the uk but cant find any as I heard its upgradeable to 8gb ram, anyone know where to get them from?
Also, with regards to gfx cards will it run any mxm II card ie. the ati hd ones?
I am running the latest nvidia gfx driver for windows 7 - http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/geforce_notebook_win7_186.03_whql_uk.html but it doesnt work.
Thanks Again

Nathan,
No clue. They'll be bloody expensive anyway. 4GB should be fine for now.
It may not be able to run ALL the Radeon HD MXM-II cards, but I know for certain there are some configurations of the 6930G that come with the Radeon HD 4650 DDR2.
Curious about the Blu-ray playback problem. Are there any updates for Acer Arcade Deluxe available? -
Hi,
I will buy a 2gb card then for 20£ and make it up to 4gb! Am I right to assume I could use 64bit windows on this then, and if so does the 64bit windows 7 it make much of a performance difference from 32bit?
Im not sure about the arcade deluxe as I deleted all the acer stuff other than the bluray player software when i got it, but that hasnt caused the problem as it has worked since I deleted the stuff!
Also, what CPUs are supported by this bios/motherboard?
Thanks

Nathan,
Most modern notebooks, this included, are capable of running 64-bit Windows.
You will see performance improvements in some cases - programs coded for 64-bit will run faster. And I find that 64-bit systems as a whole are a lot more stable.
CPUs? All of the latest and greatest Core 2 Duos, to the best of my knowledge. Check the list here for 45nm Core 2 Duos - the P and T series are usable.
