    Hi Acer Guys,

i´m working right now on a complete conversion of my 2 Year old 6930g.

    The original specs are:

    T6400 @ 2Ghz
    4GB Ram @ 667Mhz
    9600GT @ 670/1650/540 Mhz

no mod no cooling just a little GPU OC :D

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Than i found this forum and started buying new Hardware ;) thx Ebay

After a 2 weeks and many E-Mails with Laptopmonkey in the UK i got

    a Q9200, 4GB 800Mhz takeMS RAM, a 9600GT GDDR3 and a INTEL X25 SSD :)

and bbbbbaaaannnnggg Blacksreen.... well read then the Q´s aren´t working in the 6930g series!

kk second time Laptopmonkey and bought a X9100.

After changing the CPU everything works fine...

Here now the first pictures of the modifications....post more in the next days...not @ home right now.

The cooling mod is coming the next days...pictures following....

More is coming...keep it up :p

    Welcome to the forums, Asche!
Nice upgrades there - the OC on the 9600M GT's memory clock seemed a bit high until I remembered it's GDDR3.
Hope you've done your due diligence and stability tested both your CPU and GPU overclocks.

Mwahaha *strokes Q9200* im afraid so far mine is the only laptop to work with the q9200 in the entire Acer line up.

    Nice mods though.

    Wow 12.5x266 1.225v!

Isn't that really really hot? I have a C0 Penryn aswell and if i run 11.5x266 1.125V my temps are at 85°c after a minute. I have to run it at 2.8ghz 1.025v to get acceptable temps (70°c)

    Looking forward to the pics!

    So, back on Screen :D

    @GDDR3

Yeah, the RAM works fine till 980Mhz, i never thought it will make it so high....but that´s not my prob.

The Problem is the Chip voltage regulator i think, my original 9600GT goes to 670Mhz without any voltage tweak and above that the Screen frozes...normal

the new one can´t get stable above 600Mhz @ any voltage. 1,05v is the normal thing on that Chip...

first i thought mmmmmm the voltage to low...Modded the BIOS (thx Nibitor ;))
to 1,16v all went fine, but above 600 absolute not stable...every time BlackScreen.

    What can i say:

    1. maybe the voltage Regulator has a fail or
    2. my Chip is not the best

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    @ X9100

I worked about a week on solving the Temp issue on this thing...

The maximum i get stable on that is 3,6Ghz @ 1,3v but then the temp goes like a Rocket till 96°C (very risky to 105°C).

I was able to overclock it with a modded Bios of lloco (thx man) to disable EIST and my favorite ThrottleStop 2.99 (i love this thing).

I modified the cooling pipe and the cover to get it stable and fine working
    @ 3,325Ghz @ 1,225v @ around 84°C max. PRIME95

the pictures of that are following the next days...

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    @ Q9200

bought it thought PM45 works fine with Q´s, but never get it working...tried every BIOS i found, nothing to make.

I even builded (hope this is right spelled) a custom copper plate cooler for the original Acer cooling Plate....man such a tricky thing... :( buuuhuuu

    I have a dream :D *joke*

a 4670 would be the nicest, but the only Guys i know where it is working are Triturbo on his 6920g and EchoShade on his 6930g.

I´m looking every day in Ebay if i can find another 9600m GT GDDR3,
but till now nothing...sure are there about 30 offers but all from (99-170€).

to expensive for me (my cost 74€ ;) with delivery)

Until i find a 4670 from MSI on ebay or "anybody" tells me his source :p the 9600m GT GDDR3 is the best Choice for the 6930g.

by the way my 3DMark06 Score is about 7500 with this configuration.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    Ahh i forget,

my 9600m GT is running on Furmark with "extreme heating" on max. 74°C on my 0,89v  (on 600/1550/980)

    Here´s a little pic of 3DMark06

7649 WOOOOHOOOOO :D Crysis 2 im coming...

That's still a bit too hot for me but your temps certainly are a lower then mine! I have Pix now! :p

I've been searching for a 9600M GDDR3 aswell. My DDR2 version only manages 5k 3dmark at 1280x1024. The cpu upgrade was amazing though!

    Hey Guys,

found something new about my 9600m GT!

Searched a few forums and about the "black screen" problem when i´m Overclocking above the 600Mhz Chipclock...it´s not the Chip indeed!

Some people wrote thats after they lowered the shaderclock everything wents fine. Thought ok give it a try...and voila it worked.

The Failure are the shaders. Above 1400Mhz Shaderclock the Graphic is unstable and caused everytime at any clock the "black screen". Sometimes after 50min gaming, sometimes after 30sec.

I went mad about these sporadically blackouts till i lowered the shaders.

Now after Softmodding a new Bios i get a stable Clock

    @ 700Mhz Chip / 1000Mhz GDDR3 / 1400Mhz Shader @ max. 78°C

good fight good night Acers ;)

Hmz, IIRC my old 9600m GT went up to 1700mhz shaders.

I have yet to test my huge batch of fx 770m cards for overclocking, I think some will do rather well though. I have about 7 with qimonda 900mhz vRAM.

So here are the promised pictures of my modified system!

Ok the first thing i had to do after i got my new parts was,
to test the power consumption of that parts.

by the way my original configuration had about 76W consumption.

Installed everything in the system and started overclocking with a power meter in front of my original PSU (9V / 90W)

Without touching anything the whole thing ran @ 83W what is nearly the max. output of my PSU. On ebay i found a universal Acer PSU with 120w for 25€ with delivery. bought it and runs perfect...

Now i was able to push the hole system a little bit.

Conclusion: all tested on full power consumption (Prime95 + Furmark)

    3,6Ghz @ 1.3v and GPU @ 700/1000/1400 = 109w ok but hot hot hot
    3,325Ghz @ 1.225v and GPU @ 700/1000/1400 = 98w all allright

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

The modified cooling pipe and graphics adapter i found with fortune in another thread. Somebody took his old GDDR cooler and they fitted on the pipe exactly. I knew i had an old X850XT PE with a Zalman Cooler on it and these Ram coolers :D

Bought in a local Computer store "Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive" and glued everything together.

What can i say...after modifying the cover it all went fine and also the temps got down about 5°C.

I know that my cover doesn´t look the best how i cut it...but a little polish there and voila ;)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

The 3 coolers on the Graphicsholder are these who don´t fit on the pipe anymore. I glued them on the holder and it worked excellent. i did not test the temperatures but these things get hot after gaming a bit...and yes i still can unsrew it

That backplate probably does not get hot. The airflow over the bit of PCB behind the core will have helped however.

If the thermal tape it not electrically conductive, move it to the PCB instead.

Thanks for the pics! I already cut holes on +- the same position as you but a little bigger and without a grill (still have to find a suitable material to fabricate a new one).

I did lower my temps a bit thought! I readjusted the screws and now i'm at 3.066ghz 1.112v - 74°c on my laptop NC 1000 laptop cooler. On a normal flat table the temperature goes a lot higher unless i raise the back, the heat gets trapped. Too bad my cpu does not support IDA or i'd be able to run 3.2ghz.

Searching for a different fan now. The heatsink gets so hot, it's incredible, i'm barely able to touch it under full load. Ofc this only means that it works like it should!

I'll get myself some small heatsinks and attach them to the heatpipe like you did. might reduce the temps a little bit more.

Any luck with another 9600m? I'm ordering one as soon as i have some fund i can spend on it. It's the final upgrade afterall! With my ddr2 version i'm at 2200 SM2 1800 SM3, 3200/3000 seems possible with a ddr3 variant! Lets hope i can get that.

I had a new in my ebay order...but didn´t get it.

The one was out of a Barebone (JHL90) with a incompatible Bios.

This thing was sold for 47€! Damn that´s cheap but the question is would a modified Acer Bios had worked on that?!

@Frag With a flat table my temps are going above 90°C @ 3,325Ghz because the airstream is not the best anymore. Buy a Laptop stand to solve the Problem helped me getting my temps down ;)

By the way i have the 1 HDD Version of the 6930g. I bought a X25 for the second bay, works fine...the only thing i had to do is customize the cover.
