Hi All! New here but I hope someone can help me out!,

Been trying to do a full system back up on the eRecovery program on my Acer 6935G laptop but during the first disk out of three it gets to 99% and then the whole laptop locks up (I have just read up on google that the Acer program does this anyway to make sure nothing running in the laptop's background gets in the way with the writing process) and after about 5 mins or so the laptop kick in again & I can move the mouse and do things like browse the net again etc but the Acer eRecovery program still sticks at 99% and the DVD drive stops as well but then nothing. Also as well while the program is still running at 99% and the DVD drive stops when I look in my computer I notice that the DVD drive has disappeared and it has also disappeared from the device manager too! when rebooted though the DVD drive seemed to work normally & displayed in my computer again etc.

Last night the same thing happened as well when I made a back up of the Acer drivers & applications through the eRecovery program and it first halted at 99% too and because the system locked up I thought that the whole laptop had crashed so i rebooted the laptop & as well corrupted the writing of the disk so the incomplete disk had to go in the bin. Tried the process again with a new blank DVD and it worked and completed the application & driver back up. I'm puzzled to why it stops at 99% and does not complete but I want to see if this is a common problem or if anyone else has had the same problem? (I know that there are a couple of people on here who have bought this laptop on here recently) I don't want to risk keep trying to do the back up only to waste DVD's. By the way lastly the DVD's I am using are DVD+R's and they are over a year old.

    Thanks all - Liam

Anybody? Would it be a good idea to try and do the DVD back up using some DVD-R's instead of my DVD+R's?

    Thanks again - Liam

To carry out recovery, the partitions must be same as in original state. Normally in Acer, you have one hidden partition,C: system partition and D: Data partition.

Yeah that's exactly how it is on my 6935G, I have never tampered with the partitions in anyway at all & always kept it in the original state. I have just thought as well when looking at the incomplete disks after the erecovery halts at 99% and the DVD drive totally stops spinning at all activity stops completely, the DVD disks only look half written when looking at them  (most of you will know what I mean by looking at the disks to see if they have been written or not) and usually because it says it requires 3 blank DVD's in the process I would image that the whole disk would of been written?

    Thanks again - Liam

Mine leaves blank spaces on my two recovery DVDs too, so I guess it's the way it works.

About the lock-up, I really don't know why this is happening, but could you tell me how many time it took to get to 99%? I can't remember correctly, but I'm sure it took A LOT of time to burn just one DVD.

Do you mean how long did it take to burn the disk? In total it took only 15 mins to burn it and that's when it got to 99% but it never even asks to insert a new disk so it can do disk 2 either. If you mean if it failed before the 99% mark it never failed before 99% at all, it would always fail bang on 99%, DVD drive would stop spinning & then completely lock up the machine for around 3 mins then I would be able to move the mouse again etc but still no spinning or activity from the DVD drive at all.

I know that if it was going to work it would go right to 100% and then finalize the disk & then when its done finalizing it would eject the DVD.

Yeah, that is what I meant. You should wait a little bit longer, as I said it took pretty long time to burn only one DVD (like a hour or a little bit less), with the second it was the same.

Hhmmm I will see how it goes tonight when I attempt to do it again with some DVD's that I have now got, but it does seem a little worrying that it takes such a long time and despite that it looks like there is no activity from the DVD-RW drive either (the HDD light at the top of the keyboard seems to stay lighten up for like 30 secs then stops for another 30 secs then starts etc etc) so maybe it still was doing something in the background.

    Thanks - Liam

Hi, one DVD can take uo to 40 mins to complete, I also suggest you do nothing with the laptop until the backup process has completely finished.

    Good News all :)

Went & attempted to do a eRecovery back up with these new DVD-R's that I got today and guess what, the process worked! Took in total 50 mins to write all 3 disks without a single problem! So it must of been those old disks that were the problem from the beginning!

Thanks a lot all - Liam

Weird. I have the exact same problem.

Goes to 99% and then in stops. The DVD dissapears from "My Computer", and I have to restart to get it back.

    Any suggestions?

    I waited over an hour.

But I fixed the problem! I tried another DVD-brand and then it worked :D!

I always use high quality DVD media as recovery discs .

The reason is simple , because we do not have speed control over the burning,
the good DVD media , will burn well , no matter the speed of the burner.
