I have read postings about similar issues, but not sure if mine is the same problem.
I have a 7720G which was initially purchased in Netherlands (dutch version vista) and given to me by a friend. He told me that the computer wouldn't come on and that the computer store told him it needed a new graphic card which is not worth fixing.

I brought it home (to USA), plug it in and hit the On button and the darn thing comes on, no issues!

I am excited and happy for the free laptop!!! So I install my own vista (this time English) and work with it for a couple weeks .. the only problem i had was that I was't able to setup the screen saver , when ever i selected any screen savers, i would get a message something about my graphic card not been compatible or something like that ... the only screensaver option that worked was the "slide show" which i didn't care, so i set that as my screensaver .. the computer worked for another 2 days after setting the scrensaver, but than one time i closed the computer (just the lid) without turning it off, and when i opened it again shortly after , the screen was just black!!!

ALl the light still come on, the fan and the harddrive work (soud) fine .. and even the orange Lan light came on a few times ,, but no screen!

I tried all function key combinations.
I hooked it to an external monitor but no graphics!
i shined light on the screen to make sure it is not the back light ..

    nothing!!! no luck!!!

i am guess is not the graphic card sine my friend had the same issue but later it worked!!!

BIOS? if so, how can i updated it if i can not See the screen?
Should i try to reinstall vista?

    ANy help/suggestions?

    Thanks.

by gpu, u mean which graphic card?

i didn't really study the specs of the laptop since it was given to me ,, but it has a nividia sticker on the computer ..

do u know if the graphic card on this computer is integrated or not? i read different things.. if a graphic card issue, maybe i can change it .. i am not a gamer so i don;t care much a bout a high quality graphic card..

    thanks.
