I am looking to upgrade my processor in my laptop, I have the T4400 Pentum installed, I have upgraded the ram to DDR3 8gb, so that is maxed out, any suggestions on what CPU to use?

Im looking at a t6500 2.1/3m/800 or the p7450 2.13/3m/1066, but i am not sure if the laptop will allow the 1066FSB

What do you like to achieve? T4400 looks faster CPU than the intended CPUs,
have you given a thought about installing a ssd which is an excellent upgrade IMHO.

Well, I want it to be fast enought for picture editing, I have maxed the ram out, which is wired that acer specs says my laptop only holds ddr2 667, and I am running ddr3 1066 8gb, but I want a CPU that will not lock-up and have plenty of power.

Sorry, I missed the difference between Pentium T4400 and C2D T6500, P7450 CPUs, I think the chipset in your laptop is GL40 Express and there's a lot of information in this thread which will help you decide.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...es/334009-gl40-chipset-cpu-compatibility.html
EDIT: You can use the T6500 but not P7540, this I gather from the post 160 in the above link. I may be wrong so, wait for more experienced views before make up your mind.
EDIT: My suggestion is that you go for T8300, it has good reputation for being a value for money.

From looking at CPUz I have a GM45/GM47 chip set which suggest I should be able to use 1066 FSB cpu as well as 1066 FSB ram, but my ram shows up as DDR3 800.

The Acer 7736Z uses DDR2 SODIMMs. There are 200 pins on DDR2 and 204 on DDR3. DDR3 SODIMMs have a different physical layout and the notch is in a different location to prevent putting them in DDR2 sockets. DDR3 uses a different memory controller than DDR2 and the motherboard of the 7736Z doesn't support it.

You'd better check your memory again.

When I realized the ram, I called Acer and they wanted to charge me by the hour to speak to a tech to confirm

Just a update, I have tried the t6500 and it works great,Also I just installed a p7450 1066 FSB And it works great as well. it also runs the ram at ddr3-1066 instead of ddr3-800. Makes me wonder id I can install the quad core cpu?

You are correct that the Acer users DDR3 memory. I was using my desktop at the time I read the post and opened an Acer Quick start PDF that came up online and read what it said - which was wrong! Should have done a visual check but my laptop was in the office and I was home.

A few days later I verified the DDR3 when I opened my Acer to install a Blu-Ray combo drive to replace the DVD-RW which had always had issues burning DVDs (reads DVD okay and makes data or music CDs). I put the old drive in an external case and use with my netbook.

More memory and perhaps a faster CPU, hmm - maybe.

The only issue that I have found with upgrading the CPU is the fan runs longer and more often, even putting in a 24w cpu vs the 35w that came with it. Does any one know what the max GHZ cpu I can put in here? as doe the Ram, 8gb helps alot
