In an early review of the ACER 8100 in hardware magazine reference was made of the 8100 being noisy. When I switched from a Toshiba Tecra to a Compaq Armada I found the Armada noisy! But isn't all that relative! A matter of personal perception!
Is there any one that has knowledge about the existence of a scale or comparative tests rating Lap Tops based on the noise they produce.
Or can anybody make a statement such as : My Acer 8100 is 'more', 'less', 'a lot more' a 'lot less' noisy then my ...
Thanks,

This would be very interesting to know. I think the fan noise mentioned in the reviews is the only point stopping me from buying the 8104. My last laptop had an AMD XP-M and that ran hot with quite a loud fan which began to bug me after a while, so I really want to avoid getting a noisy laptop.
I was surprised that the 8100 series was mentioned as noisy in the reviews, as I thought generally pentium-m cpus ran fairly cool. -

Here is a link to a "hands on" review by David Koo (dkoo) of the Acer 8104 in this site's Notebook review section.
It answers questions about noise and heat among many others.
