My Laptop (Acer TravelMate 8104) was on for about two days mostly idling (running a ferw programs - db monitoring stuff). I decided to run a Virus Scan (which I gave high priority to) - about half way thorugh the scan poof Laptop turned off. I turned it back on but got 'hyrogliphics' on the screen so shut it down again (I thought I cooked the HD)
It was warm / HOT to the touch (the Touchpad as well underneath) so I let it sit for bit. Once it was cooled down - fired up no problem.
It sits on a dekstop or my Lap most of the time - I know the Virus Scan is disk intensive. So I guess I am in the market now for a Laptop Cooler.
I think the ventalation on the Acer is somewhat restricted. as those little rubber stubs don't elevate the unit enough to get good airflow it seems. Has anyone else experience this ? Do you use a Laptop cooler. or just raise the Laptop somehow ?

I have come to now see (with NHC installed) when gaming (Hoyles Casino 3D) my cpu temperature jumps from high 60's to 95+ in a matter of minutes.
Playing Star Wars Empire at War demo takes longer but the same effect (cpu reached 95 and Network Hardware Control - NHC kicks in to stop automated shutdown)
Before I had NHC installed it would just shut off
I have never had an issue Playing say TigerWoods 2002 or some other games ...
Anybody else have this issue ? Could it be driver related I wonder perhaps a clean install ?
thx..........y -
