Hey there, I've been lurking here for a while prior to and since purchasing my Acer TM8204WLMi. First of all I love the laptop, easily the most performance/features for the money available and I have very few complaints after two weeks of steady usage.

One issue though (and it was huge) was that the after putting the laptop into StandBy (by shutting lid, Fn-F4, WindowsXP menu, etc.) the laptop would turn back on after a variable amount of time! This would frequently occur in my bag, during the day while I was away, etc. and especially in my bag would cause the machine to easily heat to (what I feel were) dangerous levels.

The error message displayed after turning back on was "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API" and that was it. The machine would function normally after this so I assumed it had to be a driver or service failing, or possibly a keyboard/touchpad issue. Neither appears to be the case. After some searching I found a Hotfix on Microsoft's Windows XP support site for this very issue having to do with memory fragmentation with machines that have a large amount of RAM.

    The Hotfix is described here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=909095

Note that Hotfix 909095 is not available for download directly but you must contact support directly to attain it. But so far it has solved my random StandBy issues! Hope this helps anyone having similar problems. It seems it might still be a misbehaving service or something but that it is at least partly a problem with the NT kernel not correctly handling memory.

Yes, I converted both C: and D: partitions to NTFS (though did not remove/convert the hidden 8GB Acer utility partition in case I have to reformat/partition back to FAT32, install clean, restore Acer stuff and ship it back... :) I'm lazy!).

I'm really impressed with it so far though. I will be using it for a lot of remote sensing imagery analysis and needed something with horsepower, memory, and screen real-estate and the 8204 fits the bill perfectly. The only feature lacking for me is a 7200 RPM hard drive but the rest of the package is there.

Yeah I just started seeing that too. I had that hotfix installed , when all of a sudden was getting 50% cpu. Well turned out was NOT the hotfix but rather the boot order of ACER's power and gravisense management tools in combo with TopDesk from Otakusoftware. Seems the .Net apps interact in a certain way.
