Hi,
I have an ACER 8204 that is used primarily for development, and only a few times for gamming. In this case, what is the advantage to upgrade to the new Catalyst?

I am asking because I saw in this forum that the process is trick, and I do not know if is valid for the trouble.

The advantage of upgrading is that the graphics works faster, if you aren't using it, then probably not worth doing.
I use the Omega drivers and I can't say I've had any issues with them instead, much easier to install too (I had no trouble installing them). -
Upgrading the Catalyst drivers will have zero effect on desktop performance. You might see a small increase in some 3D Games, but certainly not all. As Arla notes, the Omega's are easier to install, but their performnace is the same as their respective Catalyst version, and they mess up the TV output on X1600's.
If you don't game, I'd say leave it as is.. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! -
Hi,
I am currently "messing" around with my graphics and drivers on my 8204. I was wanting to update the drivers from ATI but couldnt, and had to resort to the Omega Drivers and to be honest i havent seen much of an improvement. I have noticed a loss of functionality with the CCC etc and also i am looking to run some HD content from the DVI output, An earlier post said that this could be a problem with the Omega Drivers.
Could somebody explain the process of getting the new catalyst drivers to work on the TM 8204, i think it would be really useful?
Cheers -

Don't expect huge jump in performance, but you will end up with a few more features such as VPU recover and PowerPlay..
