I waited until I tried everything to post here. I have done all updates from windows update after a fresh xp pro install. Downloaded all the drivers from the euro site and installed them. Yet, my webcam dosen't even show up to install, it only worked when I first got it and I had the acer cd installed. >_< It's so frusterating. Any suggestions?

    Two thoughts.

    1. Have you tried doing the reinstall from the Acer CD(s)/DVD that you burnt when youfirst got the PC?

    2. You are sure you don't have a device listed as USB2.0 WEB CAMERA under unknown devices?

I haven't used the acer install cds, I moved after getting my laptop and didn't bring them with me. And the usb2.0 web camera isn't there. Just some unknown under other device. I have the driver installed for it too. Ah theres also one under usb controllers.

Well the unknown under other device could be the web camera, mine (which I've NOT installed the driver for) is listed under other device as USB2.0 Web Camera so..

Unfortunately beyond recovery disks, or trying another re-install not much to suggest, I'll maybe have a play and see if I get mine working, have you tried selecting the "unknown" device under other devices and updating the driver? That is the only unknown/not-working device right (if you have more you might not have chipset drivers installed or something)

That is the ultimately confusing and irritating thing about this laptop. I have all critical updates installed. SP2, hotfixes I could find. and I installed all the drivers that could be downloaded from the site. Yet. I'm stil getting that garbage. Chipset drivers are in. I formatted because I wanted to get the cam working, I was very close before but now I'm even further away.
