Hello, I am new to the forums, and I am comming with a question. Im not sure if it has been solved yet but here it goes.
I had bought my Acer 8730G and I was wondering if I can buy and install a new processor and graphics card. My processor is Intel core Duo T6400 and Graphics card is Nvidia 9600GT.
Thanks in advance.![]()

Hello JR, and welcome to the forums!
The processor can certainly be upgraded - to any Core 2 Duo on Socket P. The best ones are the P9xxx and T9xxx series, so something like a T9600 (2.8 GHz), T9800 (2.93 GHz), or T9900 (3.06 GHz) would be a huge upgrade over your T6400. Other people have done similar upgrades too - have a look here.
As for the GPU, you're in luck. Acers are among the rare laptops with an MXM card (Mobile PCI Express Module), which allows for the GPU to be upgraded; that includes your Aspire 8730G, which has an MXM-II slot in it. Trouble is, the 9600M GT is pretty much the top of the line for the MXM-II slot if it's the 512MB GDDR3 version. If it's the 1GB DDR2 version, there's room to improve - either to the GDDR3 version or the ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4650 and 4670. The Acer MXM thread over here would be a good place to look.
Just a word of caution - MXM upgrades are inherently risky, as they aren't meant to be done by the end user (you). The safest upgrades are to other cards your model was sold with and to cards that other users have upgraded to.
