Here is my issue with my Acer 8920. I have vista on there with sp1, I have purchased a sierra compass 597 wireless card with sprint. When I placed the card in the USB port and installed the smartview software which installed successfully and once done I rebooted my laptop and on startup my mouse, keyboard and audio had been disabled. I had to do a system restore to gain control again. I would like to make a second attempt but would need to know what the fix is for this first. I did try a usb mouse to navigate before doing a system restore and that worked. I took a quick look at the device manager and didn't see anything wrong. Has any experenced anything like this with wireless cards? The same thing happened trying to installing AT&T's connection manager for their wireless card. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

load software/drivers first, then insert USB hardware and check the hardware/drivers work with vista.
not all vista ready hardware works yet.
blame micro$oft for another rush job with vista :(

Well this is what I did I installed the software one more time and yes the mouse, keyboard and audio were not detected. So I plugged in a usb mouse and keyboard and was able to navigate to the device manager which showed that there were conflicts. So I ran the system file checker from the command prompt as an admin. By doing this it corrected most of my drivers but not all, I got a message that some were not fixed, at least now I got the audio back, keyboard and mouse pad. The only thing is I am having a hard time trying to figure out which drivers were not corrected with the system file checker. I checked the cbs.log but there is so much data in there I can not make out what was corrected and what was not corrected. If I get it all figured out I will update this info. If any knows of any other tools that would help complete this type of task please post that info.

    Thanks

and I have tried several wirless cards and all of them crashed my computer. More speciffically, the "Acer" version of windows in not compatible with the "wireless" software. After nearly 20 hours of fugging with this, I have decided to take the Acer back and demand another computer or a real version of windows. In that it says that "Windows Vista" comes with the computer I find Acer in breach of contract. I got a "Acer" version of windows that has major issues which I find un-accetable.

It's a fine computer, and I have had other Acer's before without any problems. However, I through screwing around with this problem. I suggest you take your Acer back and demand a new computer or a real version of Windows.
