    Hi All,
I have an Acer 8920g (Acer gemstone Series). For some reason I cannot get any bly-ray disc to work on my laptop. I have tried Spider man 3, Black hawk Down and even the demo disc provided but every time the dis fails to run.

And manually opening the drive from 'my computer' pops up a message saying - Insert Disc. I'm using Acer arcade duluxe 2.0.6907 & have also installed power DVD 10 but no result

    My setting:
    acer aspire 8920g - Core 2 Duo t9300 2.5ghz
    4gb ram
nvidia geforce 9500m GS - driver version: 174.51.

Any help will be greatly appreciated....

    Welcome to the forums, pvuv!

Blu-ray is a finicky beast; it only likes to play on machines with the absolute latest player software and WHQL-certified audio and video drivers.
I know for a fact that there's an update to Arcade Deluxe: the latest version is 2.5.7426. Use the Live Update from within Arcade Deluxe, or visit here to get the update.

As for the drivers, you should be fine on the audio front if you're still using the original Realtek audio drivers.
But your video drivers are waaaay out of date. Head on over to NVIDIA and grab the latest WHQL certified driver for your GeForce 9500M GS - should be 257.21.

    Hi Tehsuigi,
Many thanks for your reply. I updated the acer arcade and nvidia drivers but unfortunately no luck...
When inserting any blu-ray disc i hear sounds of the disc trying to run but then it all goes quiet.

I have reformetted my laptop installing factory setting and also tried flashing the optiaric bd drive 5500a with latest firmware but the update fails.

please advice if i am doing something wrong.

Is your region code set properly? You need to set your Blu-ray region to match your discs in order to get them to play properly.
North America is region A, I believe.

Inability to flash makes it sound like a hardware problem. Can the drive recognize *any* CD or DVD disk? Do you have a way to see if the Blu-ray disks work in another PC or in a standalone player?

Acer's Blu-ray drives are OEM and have clamped-down firmware.

1). My region code is B - UK, same as he demo disc and the Blu-ray movies
2). The DVD drive is able to play CD's and DVD's, only Blu-ray discs have
problem, the dis just spins inside for a few seconds ad then silence....
3). I dont think i can use the DVD drive as a stand alone player, as its a slim
laptop dvd drive. cant connect it to a PC or a Tele i think.

I'm badly stuck and cant seem to find any solution..

If any of the Blu-ray disks that will not play in your laptop's drive play successfully in a different drive [whether a different laptop, PC or stand alone player], then it is a hardware problem with your laptop's drive. This could be a broken blue laser, a Blu-ray internal alignment problem, etc.

I do not have any other medium of checking the blu ray discs but i dont believe 2 movies and a demo disc can be faulty at the same time. these discs are relatively new and have only been played once before.

I think this may be a hardware problem and have contacted acer warrenty team...
