    Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire model 8930 laptop which shipped with Windows Vista Home Premium.

I want to restore the system to the factory settings. However, the empowering technology eRecovery tool will not let me create the backup DVDs (they just error when burning disc 1 of 3) and also when I went to restore using the eRecovery tool from the hard disk partition, it just booted into Windows Vista rather than the recovery OS to restore the data. Also, the ALT-F10 method does not work when booting the laptop. I have tried numerous times, both pressing this key combination and also holding it down, but with no luck.

I thought this may be because I tried Windows 7 at one point (installed on drive D) and therefore that the boot sector had been changed. So I made the PQSERVICE partition visible as advised on many guides online. However, now that the PQSERVICE drive is visiable, I cannot locate the files I need to use to restore the boot sector:

    mbrwrdos.exe install rtmbr.bin

Neither of these files exist on the PQSERVICE partition. I am guessing that Acer no longer use these files on their recovery partition as this laptop is probably newer than many of the online guides?

I am desperate to restore from the recovery partition which is still intact. Please could someone let me know how I could go about this on the 8930 model?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
