Hello every body,
How are you?
Well i have an acer 8930g-584g32bn (intel T5800, 4g ddr3, 9600m GS 512mo)
and i would like to change the processor. But i'm wondering if all 8930 model have the same motherboard mine it's a psmbou-1234567 (some one know the brand of the motherboard? gygabit?). because if it's the same motherboard n all the 8930 could i put a core 2 quad q9000 (or higher, or an xtreme edition maybe?) ?
an other question is how to unlockd the bios (acer said that 4gb of ddr3 is the max, but everest tell me that the motherboard could support 8GB!
do you have try to put more than 4gb of ram?
A friend of mine have use the bios of an alienware laptop (to unlocked it) and it's work fine unfortunatly isn't an acer... maybe i can do the same kid of thing if i find the brand of the motherboard, so if you can hel it would be great.
I also would like to change the graphic card but where can i buy forr less than on the eurocom or clevo website? i would like an 9800M GT or a 280m gtx or ati equivalent. But does the bios will be compatible?
many thx for your help!
Nico

Hi ngmusic, and Welcome to NBR. ^_^
I'm not an expert with Acer notebooks, but I just wanted to let you know that 8GB of DDR3 laptop RAM will likely cost in excess of 500 USD. -
yes i know but it's just to know if it's possible to just upgrade to 6GB (2+4)

1. I don't think you can upgrade to quad-core, C2D or C2D xtreme is max you can go IMO. The "refreshed" version of 8930G - 8935G - can go quad if I recall correctly.
2. What Everest report is the chipset capabilities - 8GB. But, as far as I know, due BIOS limitation 4GB is the max you can go..at least for now. I don't think you can "unlock" the BIOS, such modifications aren't common in laptops and can be done in very rare cases. I doubt it could be done with Aspire 8930G
3. I'm not very familiar with laptop GPUs but I think you GPU use a MXM-III slot which mean you can upgrade to any MXM-III card...in theory. I'm almost 100% sure you can't upgrade to 9800GT or 280GTX though, these are MXM-IV/HE as far as I know.
I suggest you check the 8930G Owner's Lounge, you might find some more definitive answers there:
