    Hi

I have an acer 8930G and it has a q9000 2ghz processor in it. I "upgraded" to X9100 3.06GHZ but it seems a lot slower and crashes fairly often too.

So I have come to the conclusion that I need to stick to quad core. What is the best one my laptop will physically allow? Will it allow some of the newer "i" models out?

If someone could give me a list of options I would be most grateful. Cheers

Socket P means your quad options are Q9000, Q9100, Q9200 (es and extreme), QX9300.

    You cant use i7.

Since it originally have Intel Core 2 Quad processor, it is best to upgrade to another Intel Core 2 Quad too. Like moral hazard said, QX9300 is a good candidate.

    Is a T9400 2.53GHz better than my q9000 2ghz?

Is the 9700m gt 512mb better than my 9600m gt 1gb? If so by a lot or not much? Would it make much difference video editing etc?

If you overclock both the 9700m and the 9600m, the 9600m will win (because it has better vRAM).

Look this way; more core is better than less core. :D Don't judge processor by it speed. So, Q9000 is better than T9400. 2GHz vs 2.53GHz; based on the speed, the former is not that bad than the later, if you consider it have 4 core vs 2 core.

Ok sorry I thought you had the ddr3 version of the 9600m (like mine), if it's ddr2 then the 9700m is going to be better, not sure if it will help with video editing.
