Hi
I have an 8930g with 320gb hard drive
Is there 2 slots for another hard drive? If so is it easy to open it up to put another in?
Another question is, I have 4gb ram but it seems 1GB is being shared for the video memory, it already has 512mb dedicated which is plenty for me (its the 9600GT card), how do I unshare it? There seems to be no option at all in the bios.
One final question, what is the max ram this laptop is allowed?
Cheers

Or could I put a 500b hard drive to go with my 320 that is already inside it?
-
Yep, there is a spare slot underneath the laptop to allow the installation of another HDD. It's very easy to open the panel up and take a look (it's the big main panel on the underside of the laptop...you can't miss it!).
You could put any HDD size in it, from about 80GB, up to 1TB (maybe more!!) Check out THIS website for the HDD specifications that will fit.
Western Digital manufacture the HDD that is already installed, so it might be wise to buy another Western Digital HDD for perfect compatibility, but other drives with those specifications will work. -
just bought a 500gb on on ebay (WD) so will fit it wednesday when it comes, looks like ill need a small screwdriver set as my screwdriver is too fat for the holes!
Are there any tweaks / updates I can do to improve it?
The spec I got was a sort of mid range one
4gb ddr3 ram, 9600gt card, blu ray drive, 320gb, blue tooth 2.0, vista home premium. Intel core 2 duo t6400 2.0ghz, 800mhz fsb, 2mb l2 cache.
Is there anything I can upgrade in the future?
Ideally I would love to update the processor if I can but not until I can afford it, but is this possible?
Cheers -
Changing the processor is perfectly possible, but i'm afraid i have no idea how, or what processors fit. Looks like you got the exact same specification Acer as me...good choice!

Be warned to do the job carefully , so to not destroy the screen !!
Do not use extreme force or pressure , at anything .. -
The screws aren't very tight, i had mine open the other day and was suprised at how loose they are from the factory. They can be a pain to get out of the plastic cover though once they have been unscrewed.
Also, you sort of have to 'unclip' the cover. Just get a small flathead screwdriver underneath it, and gently prise it away from the laptop. It makes some nasty sounding clicks, but it should come away easily enough. -
I used to build desktop pcs for a living but never even opened a laptop before, I am hoping that I can just slide it in and it will work -

Does anyone know what max processor this will allow? For example would it allow a quad core?
I bought this mid range model for about £650 (It is actually £799 in the shops) with the view to upgrade the processor but if it can't be done so be it. It is pretty high spec anyway and plays a decent level of games although I use my xbox 360, wii and ps3 for main games, this is just for like sims 3 and a few others really.
I did have a toshiba p300 before this and this is a lot better, love watching blu rays on it!! -

Bargain! I got mine for £799 last week, i just needed something with a bit more power for my Photoshop work...and something to show off with to my mates! It's slightly more impressive then my 5 year old Fujitsu Siemens laptop!
BTW, i'm sure a Quad-Core would be compatible. I know for a fact that Acer themselves released a Quad-Core version of this laptop, but with a pretty heavy price tag. -
The problem is the motherboard for this one may not be able to deal with a quad core processor, I can get a processor fairly cheap really.
There are currently 4 other auctions for this laptop on ebay going fairly cheap, people seem to be selling them after losing their jobs. Didnt think of ebay when I originally bought one but glad I did because Ive saved £150, bought a 500gb hard drive for £50 so basically got 820gb hard drive for 700 quid, I hope I can upgrade processor but no problem if I cannot. -
Ive been looking at many processors but I do not know which would work with my laptop. Anyone have a list which would work? Currently have t6400. Would it greatly improve if I went to one of the 9'000s or 8'000s? Or this x9100 would be best?

anyone??

I have the 8930g with P8400 cpu which is a 1066 fsb. I know this can be upgraded to x9100. Should be able to take the Q9000 but don't know about any higher. You will need to check what chipset you are using if its a PM45 you should be ok too will proably need to update bios though. With heat and low clock speed can't see much point going to quad core really.
