I'm getting really frustrated with Acer. My laptop unfortunately had begun to lock up and freeze requiring me to shut it off. They claimed it was not under warrantly despite me including in the packaging a copy of the receipt and also emailing them a further copy.

It came back last Friday supposedly "tested". However the centre speaker no longer works and the 2 front speakers sound quality is not what it should be or has been. When I play a DVD or BD there is no voice at all. And when I check the configuration of the speakers there is no sound coming from the centre speaker despite it being on maximum.

I've tried doing another factory restore, removing the old nvidia and realtek hd audio drivers, still no sound from the centre speaker and reduced quality from the 2 front speakers so I've had to raise another call.

If it does not come back 100% tested I am going to press for a replacement/refund.

Anyone else had repair problems?

Hi, In a way yes, I dont know if you are aware of the awful lag/low fps/throttling when gaming on this laptop, mine was so bad I couldnt game on it fullstop, I contacted Acer and they said it wasnt a gaming laptop haha.
Anyway a program called throttlestop sorted that out here on this forum, acer are terrible for things like this, keep on to them, if it is under warranty then they have to by law, fix it, replace it or refund your money.
I personally will never buy another Acer laptop, even if I have to spend more money for the same specs.

I totally agree with you Sophie, I never had any issues in the past, it will be the last Acer I buy. It's only because of it's potential and the reviews that it had that I went ahead and bought it.

I've not had an issue with throttling yet but I don't do any gaming but I will certainly check it out if/when I receive it back working properly.

I work for HP so I think I will make use of my staff discount in the future..

Just a quick thought, is your speakers set to 5.1 and not stereo, prob a long shot but set to stereo would make some of the speakers not work

It is set to 5.1. If it is set to stereo there is no sound at all. :(

Lets hope it doesn't come back in a worse state as it did last time, so now they have the freezing and the speakers to sort out, let me know what happens when you get it back, its a shame really because now the throttling is sorted out and apart from the silly design of one fan to cool both CPU and GPU (its ok until you start doing some hard gaming), its a good laptop, just a blow that its made by Acer, you get more support from a broken leg.. ;)

Well I have arranged for it to be collected again by DHL tomorrow, I've left a sheet with the laptop detailing the error and the steps need to reproduce it, e.g watching a dvd, test speaker configuration, centre speaker not working, when configuration is changed to stereo, no sound at all. Let's see what happens.

I'm never buying Acer again, I rang today to see if they have received my laptop, I gave the all the information but they still insisted I spoke to DHL and not them. Finally after the 3rd phone call they confirmed that had received the laptop. Their service is awful, I'm going to write to Acer about it, I doubt it will get me anywhere though, I will just not buy an Acer again because the after support sucks, in fact it's not even that good...

This happened to me three times. Once they said it was a sw error (it wasn't), next they changed the whole speaker set. After a month it went bad again, they then fixed it (center speaker) but when they returned it two other speakers were broken. It was at this time that I requested a change or a refund. Thanks be to God, I got my money back. I am going to buy the 8942 instead. I know it was Acer, but they did give my money back. Also, don't let them get away with this being a driver/sw error, it isn't!

Thanks for your post! It's not just me then! I'll keep the thread updated, it's shame because this could be a really good machine.

Hi, this is way Acer support has worked for me in the UK for one of our school's laptop. Laptop sent off, next day e-mail sent to me stating the laptop had ben received and was in the workshop. Three days later e-mail received stating laptop had been repaired, with details of repair, and that it was to be despatched. Next day, laptop received back in full working order with a sheet detailing repair.
    No complaints there...

    Wow such dishonest people exist.
Obvious the receiver should know the package isn't meant for them.
And how can someone sent in a wrong address?

Well after doing a trawl of the houses in the Cul De Sac that I live the laptop has been returned and now has the sound working finally.

Although they have given me the run around I'm glad it's finally sorted, support issues aside, it's a good machine.
