This morning got a black screen but still boots.

Narrowed it down to working but on a lower brightness but goes black at higher levels.

Can Narrow it down to inverter or display I know from the inverter there was a high pitch noise when I got laptop but at a level most people cant hear it and it was easy to ignore.

    What do you guys think?

    Edit

For some reason its working fine at max brightness again

Or it is inverter, or it is backlight system damaged, or it is badly plugged connector from the motherboard to display - sometimes such little "assembly-bugs" can have a place.

thanks for rephrasing what I already stated but as a said I have narrowed it down to the screen because the backlight attached or the inverter since its a dual lamp CCFL display.

Like I said works at low brightness then after a few hours of being on i can max out the screen brightness and it works fine again.

wtb downloads or someone who can clarify wether it is the inverter going on its last legs

This sound from an inverter seems to be a giveaway - I can hear those sounds (very annoying) and that usually means it's about to go (although sometimes it takes up to few months).

Anyway - inverters are cheap (the last one I replaced cost me less than $15) so I would simply replace it and if it doesn't help, you would at least know that this one is ruled out so you'd be left with a cable or a screen itself.
