    Hi guys,

I own a Acer Aspire 8930g which I bought at the end of November 08.

Ive been having power problems, Id be playing a game or just browsing the web, and the machine just switches off.
Upon booting up again and logging into windows I notice the battery is completely flat, and is charging at 1%

The laptop is ALWAYS plugged in.

It seems to run down the battery if the computer is put into sleep mode, even though the power is plugged in, and also, I think, cant be 100% but seems to drain the battery even when fully shut down with the power plugged in.

Strrange problems and is really annoying as you would imagine if your in the middle of a good game or halfway through a good movie.

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Im going to call Acer tomorrow.

    Cheers

    Stevie

When the computer is turned on and plugged in, did you notice if sometimes the laptop start using the battery? When you move it for example? Maybe its a faulty power jack....
Anyway yeah, the best thing you can do is call ACER..or ask for replacement from the store. After all we're talking about a brand new machine.

Before you call Acer, have you tried a fresh Vista install ? If it still occurs after this, it is obviously a faulty machine, but if it doesn't, must be your end.

I don't see how software can cause this problems unless is something malicious. Removing the e software is definitely NOT the problem.

    Hi.
Try to uninstal the Epower manage ment software, only the part who controls the charging and power savings stuff.
Its work for me. If you right click on the battery icon you can se the program on the top of the list.

    Regards

To be honest I did a clean install of Windows 7 64bit, runs much better than vista and no more problems!

    Thanks for all the help

Hi, well firstly you will need to adjust the power settings within vista, it maybe that it is set to 'balanced' and causing the laptop to turn off various devices even under mains power, if you remove the Epower you will need to do this anyway, however I've never had any problems with this software if it is setp correctly by the user. To get at the power settings you need to 'right click' on the desktop, select personalize - screen saver then click on the blue change power settings. Under balanced there will be change power settings, click on that and make sure that display and sleep under plugged in are set to never, now click on change advanced settings. Make sure the following is set under plugged in:
    Hard drive, never,
    Wireless: maximum performance,
    Sleep after: never
    Hibernate after: never
    USB settings: never
Processor power management minimum: 100%, maximum 100%
    Display: Never

Remember to change only the 'plugged in settings', if you change anything under 'on battery' you will alter the length of time the laptop can run under battery..
    Chris

Have been having a similar problem. Did you notice your blue neon lights when AC jack plugged in would flash?? Mine's been doing that for about 2 weeks but it still says it is plugged & charging despite the battery indicator depleting before eventually switching off. Have to spend about 5 minutes positioning the jack to get the sweet spot and proper connection. Have only had my laptop for 3 months so am going to call em as could be design problem with AC port so close to swivel hinge for the lid. Anyone had similar problems?

Never noticed the blue lights flashing, but this sounds exactly the problem I was having.

But in saying that, since ive installed Windows 7 I havent had another problem, and its been a good few weeks since install.

Might be a power management bug with this laptop and vista?

Who knows but mines great now :)
