When I bought my Acer 8930-6058 in late 2008, Acer was promoting the (then) new Samsung 18.4" 1920 x 1080 LCD. I was expecting mine to be Full HD since there was a 1080 sticker on the keyboard, but later learned that it was only 945. More expensive 8930g versions did have Full HD screens.
Now that the screen is broken, I would like if at all possible to make up for that difference. So far I have found that Full HD versions of the 8930g had the same video card with seemingly few other differences. The 8930g Service Manual lists a Samsung LNT184HT01 (1920 x 1080) screen as well as my LNT184KT01 (1680 x 945) screen. There is also I believe a more recent 8930g model with LED backlighting and Full HD.
I am aware of the disclaimers and warnings from screen sellers about upgrading laptop resolution; although much of that could be due to marketing complications and added business costs. If I can, I would like to fully explore my screen upgrade options for this particular model since options on other models may vary.
My question to TehSuigi or to any other Acer expert moderators or bloggers is: Do you have any knowledge about screen upgrade for the 8930-6058 and what firmware, cable, inverter, etc change might be required to upgrade the screen to 1920 x 1080?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it should be just a screen replace and no need for a firmware upgrade etc
havent heard of the led 8930g screen though -
I have not yet seen it from Acer documents, but an LED screen for the 8930 was listed on a vendor site:
wwwDOTlaptopscreenDOTcom/English/model/Acer/ASPIRE~8930-6520/
(are such links allowed here?)
Acer continued adding 8930 models for a long time, so it may exist. The 8935 service manual shows it as an LED model only.
One difference might be that the 1080 screen has two CCFL tubes and the 945 screen has one. I have not dismantled mine yet to check that. There are two different inverters shown in the 8930 service manual; one being larger than the other. -
If I were to use the above WUXGA screen, things would get complicated quickly. First off, I would need to buy a dual ccfl inverter for $50. Because that inverter has a different interface, I would need to buy the matching screen cable for another $50. The above WUXGA screen itself is $175, so we are well over $300 with shipping. Using the LED screen, I would have the same issues or worse if there is no LED inverter made to fit.
The wisest course now appears to be in finding a plug & play solution. If I could find a compatible full HD screen with a single ccfl, that could be a good solution. My present inverter and cable should work with it, and these 30 pin lvds screens apparently all use the same pinout now. The screen mounted connector socket is in the same area, and the screen mounting hinge rails look to be a universal fit too.
The N184H3 full HD screen made by Chimei uses just one ccfl, and may be otherwise compatible. It is commonly available, and fairly inexpensive. The only issue now is one of uncertainty since it would only take one complication to be facing failure. I really could use some hands-on advice from a computer tech with experience to confirm that my above reasoning is correct before I would feel comfortable taking this on. -
i too would be interested to know about this as my current screen on the 8930g is also only a WXGA with 1680x945 resolution.
thanks

How did you get on? I had exactly the same set up as you with a 945 screen and upgraded to a 1080p screen with new dual inverter, cable with no issues.
I would say though, choosing the screen is important as the one I have seems to be drawing too much power from the inverter and causes the inverter to make a humming sound. Although it is a lot brighter(!) the viewing angles aren't as good as the original, My advice is, choose the acer original 1080p model.
Let me know how you got on, perhaps you had a different experience.
