    I have an Acer 8935G that will freeze up with a black screen (at this point if there is music or sound I can still hear the sound) then it cycles through several different colors... white, red, green, blue, grey, dark grey, horizontal stripes of dark to light shades of grey and then vertical stripes of dark to light shades of grey. Then it repeats those colors until I turn off and restart the laptop.

    This happened once while it was still in warranty and the note I got back said they replaced the mainboard I believe but I'm wondering if it was actually the motherboard or maybe just the graphics card since to me that seems like a graphics issue rather than motherboard issue since the graphics card is seperate from the motherboard in the 8935G. If it is the graphics card, I'll probably upgrade it to the nVidia GTS250M from the ATI 4670.

    I was just looking on eBay. Would that card be compatible with my laptop. I know slot-wise it would fit but would the bios recognize it. I have read that compatibility can be an issue when upgrading the cards in laptops and I know that the GTS250M is compatible with mine.

    Thanks for that site. I'll definitely have to add that to my bookmarks.

    I haven't had any issues with my 8935G, even after upgrading the CPU and RAM. Have you updated the graphics card driver? I would try that first before sinking money into another card.

    It might require a little effort. But it is 2-3x faster.

    Yes, I've done that. In the bios I have it set to use only the discrete graphics and the problem follows across new installs of Windows as well.

    I just ordered the HD6770M from Alibaba.com. :)

    @Meaker
    I also have a Q9000 on the way to upgrade from a P8700. Is that a worthwhile ugrade? Is the Q9000 overclockable in my 8935G with a custom BIOS? I'm not looking for pure gaming performance since I don't do a lot. I'm upgrading the graphics card since I need a new one anyways to fix the above mentioned problem and may as well go with the best since it's not really much differnce in price. I got the Q9000 for $93 off eBay so that was a pretty good deal too.

    Do I absolutely need the quad core heatsink right aways to run the Q9000? The cheapest I found it for is about $90 and would prefer to hold off on that purchase for now if I don't need it for the Q9000. Do you have a cheaper source for that?

    It appears that my laptop came with the 120W brick even though it's a dual core.

    I also have 8GB of ram on the way too. :)
