    Hi All
Recently got an acer 8935G as a desktop replacement.
Last years processor, but otherwise loaded with everything!!.

Problem is, although it has Dolby 5.1 home theater run through 4 speakers + turbo base unit, we are only getting sounds from the back right side only.
Have gone into Control panel & done the tests for sound (ie Pinging/test each speaker in turn) and they seem to work Ok.

But when you play a Movie-DVD/CD/or TV tuner the sound only comes from the right side. Yes, have checked the balance control & tried to update drivers, but they seem to be the latest.

The PC is nearly new & we returned it to the supplier, but they said this is how these are!!. I've got it back & taken it to a local Computer shop & the Tech guy there says he agrees with us, that the sound is not right.

As I have to decide whether to keep it or back it as unsatisfactory, I thought I'd ask here to see if there are any known issues with this machine....

    Any thoughts, please!!

By most recent drivers you mean those from Acer website or from Realtek website? Since this notebook uses TUBA you may be forced to use Acer's customized drivers.
If all the speakers can be heard during the test it's not the hardware issue- either driver (or its settings) or player settings.

if the test on the setting page comes out all the speakers and sub then the laptops software/hardware is ok
what media player you using the play the dvd`s etc?
its more than likely a codec problem
go here and install this codec update
    Download K-Lite Codec Pack 6.50 (Full) - FileHippo.com

the audio driver on the acer site is a year old
the latest realtek audio driver is r2.53 from here,

TUBA doesn't always work with generic drivers so I'd be cautious with that- it may be worth testing though.

Interesting... I thought my laptop was the only one with this issue. I can confirm that at times depending on the audio source, eg Dolby digital 5.1 or stereo sometimes the audio drops out and only works from the front right speaker. This only happens when using the laptop speakers. I normally have audio through HDMI at the same time although a different source, it never drops a speaker. It also has crackling noise from all laptop speakers that gets so bad a reboot is required at times with latest acer driver. I have tried different driver versions from both acer and realtek, however they all seem to have their issues.

TUBA DOES NOT work with latest Realtek driver (tested with low frequency audio track on individual speaker channels. Its as though the center channel is cloned and sent to TUBA instead of receiving the sub specific track with low frequencies only. if it does choose to work - strange not consistent) however crackling sound is gone and other speakers have balanced audio output, but a low frequency clipping of audio can be heard in all laptop speaker, HDMI audio seems to work great.

This really bothers me as one of the reasons I purchased this laptop was for the multiple audio sources I could use at the same time (HDMI, laptop speakers, stereo out jack and S/PDIF) however I can never seem to find a driver that will run all of them correctly at same time resulting in uninstall and install of whatever driver works best for what ever source I currently need to use. If anyone knows the cause of any of my issues or a driver that works correctly for win 7 64bit please share
