Well, I'd say the new Acer 8940G, i7 Calpella platform looks more official now. See and download it's Quick Start Guide here:

Complete with specifications & configuration options...... and it looks a though it will be modeled after the 8935G series...... I hope they improved the hinges.

I'd like to see an i7 version of the 6935 next......
-
nice specs - disappointing design.
the hinge is terrible so is the dial in the media control pad. -
Too bad they chose to put nvidia in the 8940G. The new ATI HD4000 series has much better options. I was hopping for USB 3 but who cares we have the esata.
P.S.: I hope to see a quad core in Acer 6930G. Why don't they make it compatible? It's only a BIOS update. -
-
Would you go for better design of a 8930g ...or slightly better performance and cooling-mechanism of 8940g ?
Give details please . -
Would please someone mind to reply to this question ??? -
No one knows, mate. It would run different CPU in there, and AFAIK it's not released yet.
-
Does anybody know if the keyboard is backlit?

Click here, to go to Acer's 8940G product page..... then click on the 'Technical Specifications' tab.
ENJOY!

Also, GTS 250M >>> 9700M GT. -
Than you so much for your reply. How about battery life? Any info about it?
-
For your information a 8942G has been released with a Better Graphic CARD than 8940G.
Do you happen to have a link with a VIDEO of 8940G or 8942G ? -

ASUS G Series G51J-A1 vs Acer Aspire AS8940G-6865
here the comparison
What do you recommend? -

Yes, the keyboard is indeed backlit. For more info, click here, and select the 'Technical Specifications' tab. Also, you will find the Spanish 8940G ' Quick Start Guide' at the following download link:
Guía de comienzo rápido
Regarding a comparison of the Acer 8940G -vs- the Asus G51J-A1, I guess this would depend on your needs. With regard to gaming, I would have to give an edge to the Asus, but if your focus is all-around multimedia, then I would say the Acer will aptly suit the need..... plus a larger 18.4" backlit LED screen. Don't get me wrong here..... the Acer will certainly game too..... it is just not as equipped regarding the graphics solution. Also, for the money, the Acer is a really nice buy.
Personally, if gaming were the priority, and I were considering the Asus model..... I think I would spend a little extra, and opt for the Dell/AW M15x. Again, the Acer 8940G is a good value, with power to spare.
Here are a couple of Acer 8940G reviews:

and
Acer Aspire 8940G (AS8940G-6865)
Also, if you have the patience, you may want to consider waiting for the Acer Aspire 8942G. This model is soon to be released, and it will be sporting the ATI Mobility HD 5xxx series graphics solution. In Europe, pre-orders are already being taken for several variants of this model, and one of them is scheduled to ship 18 Dec 2009.
Something to consider.....
Good luck in your decision, and I hope this helps!

Enjoy!

Perhaps I'm simply conceding my ignorance of how pricing schemes work here in Australia, but would anyone care to enlighten me as to why this laptop is RRP $1329 in USA, but at least $3000 here? Our dollar isn't that weak! (And it doesn't seem to be a difference of specs issue either...)
Consider also that the Dell Studio 17 (1747) is RRP $1164, and sells for $1499 on http://www1.ap.dell.com/au/en/home/notebooks/studio-1747/pd.aspx?refid=studio-1747&cs=audhs1&s=dhs
