    Hi all,

I've just ordered my AS8943G-9319 and I was wondering if anyone has an Acer part number for the 2nd hard drive kit or a link for a US provider? I've ordered the laptop with an OCZ Vertex 2 160GB SSD drive to use as the primary but I've read that the 2nd bay needs a kit for me to use the original 500GB drive in it. I've done some searching and only found a site in Canada that I can't seem to purchase from.

    Thanks in advance!

    Tom

Every Sandy Bridge i7 has been recalled. Intel planned to release the i7, i5 and i3 separately and because of the flaw they've decided to release them together. Probable in the next month.

Well I got the laptop and cloned the 500GB drive it came with to the 160GB QCZ Vertex 2 and upped the RAM to 12GB. It's pretty snappy and the SSD is just about as fast as advertised. Now I just need to get the second HD kit so I can use the 500GB drive for storage.

    Impressed so far.

Thank you so much for this: it works perfectly. I've left it at the default settings. Are they the best?

No idea if it's the best.. but ive left them default, and that works, so im leaving them there... :)

Quick question that i hope someone can help me answer...

Anyone knows where the microphone is? When im speaking with someone on skype, sometimes they say that "im getting blurred", so i thought speaking in the right direction of the mic would help, but i cant seem to find that little hole anywhere...

    Anyone? :)

    Cheers.

According to the quick start guide it's on the upper edge of the palm rest on the left hand side. It looks like it's above the left edge of the ATI sticker in the picture (the pic doesn't have the ATI sticker but that looks like the general area).

I use the 8943g primarily for gaming (and TV). It's definitely adequate. I can play Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect and Half-Life 2 all at full res, although there is some lag. If you drop the res a bit it's great. It's definitely hampered by the DDR3 GPU. DDR5 would have been much nicer. But it's a decent gaming laptop. Bypass the crummy speakers with headphones and you're laughing.

If you wanna scale it as a laptop in performance of gaming i would rate it 7 out of 10.. It lags a few things, as for instance the DDR5 as mentioned... But otherwise its actually quite a heavy machine, especially for a lappy.

Im playing HoN, Counter-Strike Source & Starcraft 2 without any problems at all.

Do notice that when playing with HIGH settings, the GPU will get really hot. But this is a problem with ALL laptops as of what I know.

Tip: Im getting better 3D Mark scores (actually alot better) with my i5 2.66 than my m8 with the i7 1.6ghz (same model: 8943g)... apperantly the i5 is better for working with 3d, so go for that edition if you plan on gaming. i7 is prolly more suitable for multitasking stuff.

Please also notice that the 8943G is diffrent in the regions... Im european, so if youre american it might differ from the models i get to chose from.

I cant find it in the area you mention.. :/ Well.. its no biggie.. just the first time i see a laptop where its absolutely impossible to find out where the damn speaker hole is.. ill post if i find it.

EDIT: Tletorneau.. Youre right..! I just took another look again... the hole is more like a "crack" :p in the gutter of the trimming between the aluminium and the plastic.. nicely hidden... really.

It is nicely hidden and easy to understand why you might sound muffled on occasion if you type while talking. :)

    Hello,

Could someone that got the remote control with their 8943G please list the part number for the remote control? I would like to get one for my laptop.

    Thank you,

    Tom

EDIT - Never mind, apparently my Logitech Harmony remote is compatible with it. That's kind of cool actually.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Just informant updates for lately use:

    Problem 1:

I noticed when after formatting my computer, i choose not to install bluetooth drivers and cir drivers etc.. i only use it for gaming, music production and surfing the net, so i didnt need these things.... Well i DID, cauz the Bluetooth driver also contains the drivers for the FN buttons to work.

FN+F7 didnt disable my touchpad, so i just installed everything as before one-by-one and the bluetooth driver contains these drivers also.. Now you know.

    Problem 2:

This is more of a Windows based problem, but it will question your SSD ALOT, and since alot installs an SSD drive in the 8943G i thought i would share this issue.

After installing my SSD everything went INSANE fast.. But suddently someday i came home from work and booted up my 8943G i stepped in the kitchen, made a cup of instant coffee, went back, and (?) it was still at the welcome screen (with the loading cursor running).

Well luckily its not the SSD, it took me a while to troubleshoot, but the problem is the network trying to connect to a network drive. And since i installed a network drive the day before, it made sense.

Problem: Windows 7 hangs / slow at welcome screen (hangs for about 20-30 seconds)

Solution: Remove auto reconnect to the network drive (Use the pop-up window that will show when the computer finally enters desktop).

Btw this will cause the same problems with media streamers etc like the WD TV live and other network drive options.

    Cheers.

I don't have a Win7 install disk, so I can't do a fresh install. All I have is 3 restore DVDs I made with Acer eRecovery, but they apparently need a hidden partition on the drive to restore my installation (the documentation is a bit vague). I'm just wondering if I can use these DVDs on my fresh SSD (which I still haven't recieved :p)
I really don't wanna buy another copy of Win7.

Well, underneath your computer you should have a sticker with a legitimate product key for windows 7 (home premium properbly).. just download, or loan a CD and install with the key underneath your computer. Done deal. For your concern, that's not illegal.

I actually mailed microsoft to ask (TRANSLATED FROM DANISH TO ENGLISH):

    Hey Charlie,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft support.

If Windows came preinstalled with the system, you should take contact to the manufacturer of your PC. Or, you can use a CD from a known relative or anyone you know having a Windows Home Premium disc, and use the product key followed by your product.

If you have a OEM version, there is no support.

If you have Windows "In-A-Box" (retail), you can contact our Order Office on nr. +XXXXXXXXXXXX(press 2 + 4 in the menu)

If you have any further questions, dont hesitate to contact us again.

    Kind regards

    Hope this info helps..

Help. I am an unsophistocated computer user who has just purchased an Acer 8943G and it is driving me nuts. How do I get rid of the little grey button that suddenly and for no apparent reason appears when I am trying to scroll up or down and where the heck are the volume key controls on this machine. Thank you.

The volume control is the roller type button beneath the touch pad.

I can't help you with the scrolling problem because I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean when you use the mouse in the right hand scroll bar?

Yeah volume is under the touchpad..

and for the second question im also confused...

Do you mean a extern mouse? In this case it could be the mouse driver?

If you mean the touchpad, I have no idea what grey button you mean, is it Launch Manager? Or is it something written in windows? Could you take a screenshot? Maybe its the synaptics driver thats interfering with something you installed? Try uninstalling the touchdrivers and if youre using an extern mouse, try uninstalling that software and see if the problem persists...

    Cheers.

I'm thinking about installing Windows XP on another partition, but im unaware of the Win7 drivers will work on the WinXP system?? Anyone with experience? Also, if not, anyone found a place to get Windows XP drivers for the 8943G? I searched the net but with no luck.. :/

EDIT: Just got reply from Acer.. Drivers for XP does not exist... :(

I keep asking and asking.. bare with me, im just curious about certain things..

While games, it tends to get a tad to hot? It dosnt crash or anything, everything runs smooth, but the top plate to the left of TAB, §½ and ESC is getting so hot that i SERIOUSLY cannot keep my fingers on it.. i measured with a pin, and it measures 78º celcius (surface).. Tried Speedfan (the software) and ran a check to see the load and idle temp. inside.

    (everything is in celcius)
    IDLE:

Cpu: Around 40.. jumping from 34-43
    Gpu: 50~ not moving
    HDD: 35

    LOAD:

    Cpu: 89+
Gpu: 93-98 (havnt seen 100 yet)
    HDD: 46-51

For your information 90 celcius is where water boils under normal atmospheric pressure... Geeez, i could litterally cook an egg on the GPU!

I just think this is insane.. How long can i expect my hardware to last with these extreme temp.?

Just wanted to hear if anyone mesures the same or havin extreme heat problems..

    Cheers.

I had read that a bit of spongy material between the drive and the old door was all one really needed. I don't own an 8943G so I'm not sure if that would work. Was that just on some older 89xxG machines?

I dont get the question.... Why do you need a hdd cover when there's already one? You can just cut off the plastic things with pliers or something, then there's room for a harddrive... Maybe im missing something?

Yes, you're missing something. The 2nd bay isn't as deep it should be, I assume because it's under the graphics card, in the European models there is a cover over the 2nd bay that protrudes out slightly from the bottom of enclosure. someone posted pictures before of how trying to install an hdd without the right cover just looks like , and the door won't screw in properly. Of course Acer wanted the bottom of the laptop to be smooth, probably because the average person would wonder why there's a raised corner of their laptop. So we have this new cover and no bracket. Sure, it's a small deisgn flaw, but I don't think most people give a about a few centimeters of extra thickness...The site that used to sell the old cover is sold out, and now I think I'm ed.

I installed a second harddrive in my 2nd bay, without needing to change the cover, and its NOT raised at all, its smooth with the other surfaces.. My 2nd harddrive is a SSD, maybe that could be the reason.. i just used this guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...ing-2nd-hard-drive-ssd-acer-8943g-0-cost.html

If its the harddrives that have a larger depth than the ssd's well, then i see the issue... Then you need to wait for a in-stock replacement.

If you installed/formatted and installed another windows version, then its highly possible that some hardware fault is causing this. Have you tried both the ATI AND the AMD drivers? cauz on the Acer.com Worldwide - Select your local country or region support -> download section theres 2 kinds of drivers for the GFX card. Try using one of the other ones.. and remember, when installing a video driver, remove EVERYTHING from the previous driver to be absolutely sure..

Also remember to update/reinstall Flash, DirectX etc to be sure that aint the problems.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you! Yeah, I was planning on using my old laptop's drive, but obviously I'm not going to dismantle an old fashioned HDD, so I think I'll just buy an SSD, and justify the price by thinking of how much faster my boot will be. Speaking of which, I'm assuming you can set the 2nd drive as a boot drive? Like it doesn't matter which bay the drives are in? I wouldn't think it would, but you never know, with the shenanigans manufacturers pull these days.

Yeah well the SDD has the "disk1" and my standard hdd is "disk0", but when you boot a windows CD for instance, it just reads everything from the CD, untill you get to the screen where you can choose which harddrive you wanna install too.. just format (quick format!) the SDD and install it here... I have a boottime of 18 seconds untill it reaches login screen.. From login screen till it shows the desktop and stops loading items, i have 9 seconds. thats a total of 27 seconds.. Before it was around 45 seconds till it stopped loading.. :) Best buy i ever did... Also diffrent apps loads way quicker.

Thats because its not been out long due to the sandy bridge chipset recall.

Its going to be like the 8943g with a faster CPU and very similar graphics power.

It's safe to uninstall it. It's not meant to be run it's meant to work when you disconnect from power source although opinions on its effectiveness are mixed- at best.

Just an update, I ordered the 2nd drive cover from Germany and the drive bracket from Canada. Got them and installed the second HD (the original 500GB drive, I have a SSD for the primary). It worked out well, the second drive it very handy.

    Hi there,

I own an Acer Aspire 8943G-726G1.28TBN with the following specs:

    CPU: Intel I7 720QM
    GPU: ATI HD5850M 625 MHz, Memory: 800 MHz, DDR3
    MEM: 12GB
    MB: Intel HM55
    RES: 1920*1080

My question is if I can OC the GPU, and if anyone has already tried this. I'm a complete NOOB  with OC. I've gone through the forum already but could not find anyone with the same specs

I was wondering if any of you AS8943G owners know the motherboard part number for the US spec model. I specifically have the AS8943G-9319.

    Thanks in advance!

I am currently negotiating the purchase of a (2nd hand) 8943g. It has 500Gb/blueray/bluetooth.. but no TV card. Can anyone tell me if the wiring is present inside (Ipx connector) so I can add a suitable card.

    Guys,
I can not set Intel Video to be primary video adapter and ATI 5850 to be secondary by default. My 8943G does always set 5850 as default video on every boot and reboot. I, in contrary, 90% of my pc time do work in a lot of 2D applications and Intel Video adapter is just absolutely fine to work with 2D. Occasionally, I play 3D games which require 5850 and I can switch it on when it is actually needed from Intel Video which I want to be default upon boot. Is it possible to do so?
    Replies would be greatly appreciated!

I found my 8943G very noisy and only with Skype and Crome opened temps rise 63+ degree easily. Fan kick in around 55 and it's very noisy, I also downloaded the app to control the fan and it helps but when goes over 70+ it switch back to bios controlled fan and the noise is back again, I sent it to service but they said it's all normal, any of you guys have similar fan/heat/noise issue?

    Hi Guys,

    Just new in this forum.

Was wondering if anyone has a similar laptop (Aspire 8943G-7748G1.28TWnss) and would be willing to help provide me a GHOST image of their recovery partition?

    Thanks for helping!

NotebookSolution.com (Canadian Co.) also carry the cover AC36400 (Part# 42.PWC07.001) But they sold out. What did you have to do? just install the new HDD in the 2nd bay and put on the cover or you have to do something else? the 2nd bay does not look deep enough for the drive. I would appreciate if you have some pics posted. Thx
