^^ Thanks for this post! Mine is a lot cooler now.
I have a version that came with an i7-740QM, 640GB HDD and 4 GB DDR RAM.
I bought 3 4GB sticks of Vengeance RAM to upgrade and find that if I use sticks in slots 1,2 and 3 it detects only 8GB. If I swap to 1,2 and 4 it detects only 4GB. As far as I can tell the sticks are fine, the laptop just wont detect the 3rd stick used it slot 3 or 4. Is this some sort of feature thats not turned on? or do you have to have to have the same amount of the same type in all 4 slots?

well, there are a couple issues, the laptop REALLY prefers matched pairs of ram, try to buy matched pairs for both ram banks if your after 16g, but note that the laptop doesnt really need 16g unless your doing graphics editing because for games youll run out of video card before you tap out 8g, i ran 16 for a while then backed down to 8 when (thanks to the laptops old temps) i cooked a ram stick, and the laptop really didnt like just running the 1 good stick out of the pair, i really should buy another pair but unless i swap the processor and go to OC the video card, there isnt a use, but really the next big project is to swap the processor to the fastest that fits the socket that i can find
(something i would have never considered before due to any faster processor will undoubtably run hotter, and until i opened that intake, more heat was the last thing i wanted, now my temps are well within safe for a faster chip)
also, i have the same exact one you do, so anything you see me do directly applies to your model, but the case mod works on alot of acers, theres an enitre line in this case, including an i3 and i5 version.
and i havent visually confirmed yet(shoulda looked when i had it apart but i didnt know how well the cutout would work then), but im pretty sure the board uses socket pga988 (g1), which means an i7-920xm should fit, compare that to our 740qm, mmmmm tasty -
I have got the i5 450M version with 4GB RAM installed (up to 8GB). I wanted to upgrade to 8GB and got 2x Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz modules Corsair CMSX4GX3M1A1600C9 NB Vengeance Performance 4GB 1600MHz CL DDR3 SO-DIMM Memory Module: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories I know this RAM is overspecs for this laptop, but it was cheap enough and I thought it should run just fine with the maximum speed supported by motherboard, probably with better latencies. After installation of the new modules laptop starts and reboots automatically after few seconds. I tried to boot dos and run memtest but as soon as the test starts system reboots as well. I managed to noticed in Memtest that RAM was running on correct 1066Mhz with CL6 (normally my old RAM is CL7) It looks like it's some serious incompatibility issue of Corsair Vengeance on this laptop, what really suprises me (especially that manufacturer claims they suppose to work on first gen i5 i7 CPUs and adjust correct speeds automatically from SPD) as based on my previous experience on other systems I haven't expected any problems. Did you have similar problems? Any suggestions? Thanks

re: squall.eu
I got the i7 version and I replaced 2 out of the 4 RAM chips with "Corsair Value DDR3 SO-DIMM 1333MHz 8GB" and did get a performance increase (so I got 12GB RAM)
so 1333MHz worked really well for me at least and did give some boost
you paired them correctly right? (no?)
if I remember correctly it the pairing was kinda strange so if you just swapped them in they might not pair
ehm, I think is wrote it wrong in the image xD
the green ones are probably the Two 4GB - 1333 RAM
and the two blue ones are probably the 2 GB 1066 ones
but you get the idea. -
Re: black_light_st
Hi and thanks for your reply. My 8943g is a cheaper version than yours and has only 2 RAM slots. Each slot can handle max 4GB so 8GB in total is maximum for my system. Not much confusion with pairing chips if you only have 2 socketsI've found another thread here Acer Aspire 8943G (upgraded memory from 4 GB to 8G... - Acer Support Community where someone has exactly the same problem with ram on identically speced 8943g to mine. The only difference is he's using different modules (slower, but still faster than original ones) but also 2x4GB. I have a funny feeling, that Acer's MoBo is so poor, that if you put in it enough RAM to reach the max specified limit it struggles to address memory correctly and system becomes unstable.
Looking at your configuration - I think you're right - in my laptop slots marked in your picture as 3 & 4 are not even soldered in MoBo, so I only have 2 single (one layer) slots situated same as yours (e.g 90deg to each other). So logically if my slot 1 and 2 are paired, in your machine paired slots are 1/2 and 3/4 -

Has anyone tried upgrading to Windows 10 on their Acer 8943g? I bought a 2nd SSD to give it a shot, and while it's new and pretty, there don't seem to be any ATI Radeon HD5650 drivers compatible with Win10, I can't get the laptop to output to my TV via HDMI.

Hey
Had a question anyone gotten an unlocked BIOS for this laptop yet
Romanster
I did the jump and in order for HDMI to work go into BIOS switch graphics to dedicated and manually install the drive without installing the software. Works like a charm
