I currently have Acer A0A 110-1137 which has 8 gb harddrive and 512 mb of onboard ram. It runs Ubuntu. I have about 100-150 dollars to spend which I wanna use on upgrades on the netbook. I want to make it more powerful without completely killing the battery life (I was thinking ram and harddrive upgrade). I noticed that the max amount of ram it supports is 1.5 gb. Does this mean if I buy 2 gb (since its one slot) that it will only load 1.5 gb of it and ignore the rest or will that fry it? Also if I increase the disk size then I will also increase the amount of times the disk will have to spin (i believe) which will result in shorter battery life (is that correct).
I also have the 6 cell battery on it (2 hour battery life) if I upgrade it to the 9 cell battery how big of a jump will the battery life be?
It current is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix and boots up in about 35 seconds. I figure if I upgrade the ram to the max then I could get it to boot up in about 15 seconds (LOL I hope).
If anyone could help me out that would be awesome.
THANKS!

hi
i also have a 1 AOA110 and allready made what you want. I replaced the 8gb ssd to a 30gb toshiba 1,8" and added 1gb of ram.
Also i have installed win7 on it (just typing from it right now)
You must take this in count:
- If you want to replace hdd it must be a 1,8" (search for it on ebay) and also you will need a flat cable to connect hdd to motherboard, cause the one that comes on notebook (connecting ssd to motherboard) is not tick enough to enter on hdd. You can try and see if it connects ok, or else just buy a new (they are sold on ebay).
- For ram you can buy a 1gb module.

Whats the battery impact on this upgrade?
Is there a noticeable performance increase (I would assume so but I just want to double check)? -
i didn't note any performance increase. But that just me.
cheers
