The Acer is now $899 at CompUSA (roughly $1000 after tax). I can also get a similarly spec'd dv5000t for the same price.

If I do *not* need dedicated graphics, is there any reason to choose the Acer over the HP? Is the display noticeably better?

    Thank you.

I had to decide between the same two notebooks. Eventually I chose the 5672, and I have yet to regret my purchase. Granted, I haven't personally experienced the DV5000t, but the 5672 had some great selling points for me (price, graphics card, etc.) Sorry for not helping much...

I am having the same probelm, i cant decide between the two. The only thing i am scared of with the Acer is the Heat and the Build Quality.. I really like the X1600 graphics, thats why i want it over the HP, but i dont wanna risk the quality to get it.. what does the quality of the Acer seem like to you. how is the screen, very nice and clear and bright or crummy compared to others?

Since this is my first laptop, I don't really have anything to compare it to. IMO, I think it's a really nice screen. I like the glossy style a lot as well. As far as build quality, some areas do flex under pressure, but as long as you're not playing rugby with it, I think you'll be alright.

My personal opinion would be to go with the acer. I really don't like the brightview screens. My roommate has the dv2000 and the screen is way too reflective. its literally like having your screen come up on a silver mirror. The acer laptop I feel still gives you a nice picture with good color and brightness which out quite the same reflection. Just the personal opinion of someone who has played around with both such notebooks.
