Your display show error massage?so I guess it's not a VGA card related issue.

I think it's driver issue,so try to boot it from safe mode(Press F8 key when you see the BIOS screen) & uninstall the driver.

After that again boot into safe mode & run driver cleaner

    Finally install latest VGA driver

It's a fairly straight forward fix and $300 is a rip-off. If you can gain access to the Acer web site (probably go for euro acer as it's a UK machine) you can download the driver you need http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5920.html . You might find using ALT/F10 as you boot will give you access to the 5920 recovery console (mine does!) in a low resolution simple video mode.

I've just reloaded my 5920 with a complete driver set and it wasn't difficult once I had access to the laptop.

If nothing else, just use your recovery CD/DVD's!

for $300 i can repalce your MB and fix your problem.... BUT I HAVE TO KEEP THE MOTHERBOARD,, unless you wanna pay an extra $150....

    JUST KIDDING....

but seriously STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THAT SHOP... they are the kind of people that give PC REPAIR TECHS a bad name!
