Hi
I looking to get some voice operating software for my laptop, but the software I'm looking at requires 16 bit recording sound quality, and I've no idea how to find out if my laptop has that. I've looked at the system and this is all could find, Conexant AC-Link Audio and under recording devices Conexant VIA Audio. I've looked around the net for these phrases but nothing seems to indicate if it has what I require. Could someone give me some info or point me the right direction.
Thanks
Tony

Most sound cards in notebooks and desktop should support 16-bit recording. Most standard WAV files are in a 16bit format, so you shouldn't have any compatibility with the unit.
Just as an FYI, other users with Acer notebooks (1500 series) had an issue with audio on their notebooks. Split second delays were present when playing any audio. The issue was possibly later resloved by updating the OS/drivers.

Hi
I got the software (Dragon Naturally Speaking preferred 7) but I have found some problems with the recording on the laptop that I think may have been present before installing the dragon software. The reason I think this is because I have unistalled the software and the problem still occurs.
The problem is this when I attempt to use windows sound recorder to record more than a couple of minutes all the audio input stops working. Sound recorder shows no sound coming in and the moving bar that indicates time passing stops.
Then if I close sound recorder and attemp to start it up again it will not receive any input from the microphone.
I have tested the microphone with another pc and that works ok so I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. My system specs are as follows
Acer Aspire 1301XV
240 MB Ram
Conexant AC Link Audio Sound card
XP Pro operating system
Mobile Amd Athlon XP 1500+
Emkay Microphone
Modem - AC97 soft97V92 data fax modem with smart cp (not used)
- BT On Air usb wirless modem (default)
Thanks

I don't know if this is true or not, but doesn't sound recorder only record a few seconds of sound? I think I may have had problems with Windows Sound Recorder. Since it works for the first couple minutes, it's not a hardware problem. This sounds like a driver or software problems. Maybe something installed is conflicting with it. Uninstalling an app doesn't guarantee to get rid of all the changes made.
The best and most extreme thing to try, is to reload the entire OS from scratch. Update all the drivers and then install your app and see if it repeats. Make sure you back up all your data first. I can't guarantee this will fix it, but it'll get rid of any software/drivers that could be causing the problem.
