I'm planning to buy a laptop for everyday use, web surfing, music, movies, word processing, burning cds. I won't be doing any gaming or video processing, so a laptop around $1000-1200CDN sounds about right.
After doing some bargain hunting, it seem the best value for the price is the Acer Aspire 1363 ($1109 CDN) and the Travelmate TM4002 ($1188), both are similar in price but different in specs.

    Acer Aspire 1363WLCI: $1109 CDN
    Mobile AMD Sempron™ 3000+ (1.80GHz, 128KB L2 cache, up to 1600MHz system bus)
    512MB (256/256) DDR333 SDRAM
    60GB hard drive
    integrated CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive
    15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800) TFT display, Acer® Crystal Bright Technology;
VIA K8N800 chipset with integrated UniChrome™2 graphics
    802.11b/g WLAN, 10/100 LAN, V.92 modem

    Acer Travelmate TM4002WLMi: $1188 CDN
    Intel Dothan M725 Processor 1.60GHz w/ 2MB Cache
    512MB RAM
    60GB Harddisk
    DVD-RW Burner
    56K V.92 Modem, 10/100 LAN, 802.11b/g WLAN
    15.4" XGA TFT Display
    Intel® Extreme Graphics 2

How does the two processor matchup against each other?
    Which graphic card is better?

Feel free to recommmend any other laptop that is in my price range.

From these 2 units, I'd definitely go with the Travelmate. The CPU is WAY better than the AMD Sempron and will definitely run a whole lot longer on batteries. Plus, for the extra $79, you get yourself a DVD burner and probably a better video card. Not too sure of the performance of the UniChrome GPU, but I think the Intel is better.
