My friends Acer won't go into sleep mode when he closes the lid and I checked all the settings to see if anything was wrong and when I go into the guest user and close the lid its goes into sleep mode flawlessly and I took the battery out and then closed the lid and opened it it turned on. I updated the video drivers but nothing worked so if anybody could help please.

Some if the applications that run on startup are user-specific and some are launched for all the users. You can rule out anything that launches for both accounts and then try to close the rest of the things that reside in system tray one by one. It may be one of them or one of apps that are not visible in tray- you'd have to compare use process manager on both accounts and compare.

EDIT: So you can put it to sleep from his account too- but only using Fn+F4 and from guest account using both Fn+F4 and closing the lid? I'm not sure if I fully understand as the thread title has info not mentioned in the post.

Using his account he needs to look into power management, bet it is there where the problem is.

Normally, power management settings are not per-user
    But worth trying anyway.
