I read a great review on the 1410 and decided to buy it. Been very happy with it, but discovered that it was the Celeron 743 and not the Core 2 Solo. I didn't realize that until I bought it from Newegg; just thought there was only one CPU offered.

So, my question is, can I upgrade the CPU? If so, what CPUs can I use and has anyone taken an 1410/1810 apart and posted pics or a guide?

    http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=37133,37135,

    I appreciate any feedback!

    Thanks

No you can't unless you want a long, hard, process.

What makes it a long hard process? :( I found some disassembled pics and instructions on how to open it up...

You need to unsolder the processor.

    Awww crap :(

Nevermind then. I'm so sad that 720p playback is lousy on this celeron! It works fine with GPU acceleration if the file I have has DXVA enabled, but not everything I have is DXVA enabled.

Most 720p stuff should be ok with dxva using MPC-HC. Your celeron dual core should be fine handling it.

The Celeron 743 is a single core.

Yeah with DXVA it works fine, but most of my encodes don't have DXVA enabled. Do I need to rencode them? Is there a way to use DXVA on .mkvs that don't have that option turned on? I.e. use CoreAVC as an external coder/filter in MPC-HC?

    I appreciate any help, guys!

I've had the Acer Aspire 1410 since the middle the of October. I purchased it from J&R and have absolutely loved it. Great performance and battery life. (I have the one with the SU3500 Intel Core 2)

What I don't understand is why Acer just changed to the Celeron processor so quickly after the release of this mini notebook. The price is the same for the Celeron version, but I still lower performance. Next time, it helps you to read the details.

The Acer, like mine with the Core2Solo, is still being sold on Amazon w/o much hassle and I think J&R still has some instock.

Why'd acer drop this thing so quickly at least in terms of specifications? I've finally found a place that sells batteries for this thing that was more of an issue than I ever thought possible ... but it's out there.

Intel stopped producing the SU3500 in favor of dual cores like the SU2300.

I didn't realize that this Celeron that is in the updated AS1410 is a dual-core processor. I just found an updated review ( http://www.liliputing.com/2009/11/acer-aspire-1410-review-dual-core-version.html). Apparently, the Celeron processor provides equal or marginally better than the Intel SU3500 and for a lower retail price tag.

That's great news for buyers then, because I have absolutely no problems with the performance of this little machine - even with the stock amount of RAM. Shame that they lowered the HDD space, but I'd rather have the lower price tag.

I need to recommend this newer version to my mom when she wants to update. She used my AS1410 on a trip and loved its small size and high resolution display.

Thanks for the information about the newer model.

I own a 1410-2287 model, of which very scarce information is available. It comes with a Celeron 723 CPU, and I recently stumbled upon a sweet deal on a SU9600. Hardware-related issues aside (unsoldering CPU, etc.), do you think the BIOS would support it?

If only I had the skills to do something like that :) ... I'm planning on hiring a soldering specialist, if the CPU is compatible, that is.

good deal, if you got a good steady hand and a hot air rework station you can remove and reball a new cpu on there.

Everyone keeps telling me it's not feasible, your post made me think otherwise. I won't do it myself though, a slight caffeine addiction tends to get in the way of my electronics skills and, come to think about it, I have no electronics skills :) .

Anyway, I took a chance and bought the damn thing. I'll update in case I get it to work, or if my motherboard gets killed in the process.

I've done it with a U7700 on a Sony laptop with a U1500. I used a cheapass hot air station off ebay. Order a bga stencil kit or buy a EzReball kit.

Hello, Could you help me with change the cpu in Acer 1410 (11,6)?

Now, I have Intel Celeron M ULV 743, 1,3GHZ. Could I put in my notebook SU9400 or SU9600? I think, that I can.. Is it right?

I dont know what type of bga stencil kit, or EzReball kit I have to order..

    Thx for reply.
