I have been getting really annoyed by the high pitched noise coming from the wi-fi chip - opened up the case and can hear it clearly coming from here.

So I decided I would return the laptop as I only bought it 10 days ago from Staples. However, after reinstalling windows as the easiest way to clear the system and my meager amount of data I realise that the noise has stopped entirely.

So I think what the hell and decide to mount my backup image back on the drive, but low and behold the noise is back.

What software/system issue could be causing what appears to clearly be a hardware fault?

Should I just return the laptop anyway? Or reinstall windows, reinstall my programs and see if the problem reoccurs (try and delimit which program, if any, causes it)?
