for the models that come with 2gb memory, is it two sticks of 1gb or is it one stick of 2gb?
also, for those that already have a SSD in there, have you benchmarked the drives, and what are you getting for transfer rates? i know the the older netbooks with atoms are limited by the chipset, so the SATA controller won't allow any SSD's to run at SATA-II speeds. all these netbooks are maxing out at around 120mb/s. i hope this is not a problem with these chipsets in the timeline models.

Did anyone with the SU2300 get one stick? -

dam, so older models had one 2gb sticks, and if i were to buy one right now, i'd get two 1gb sticks? can someone post a screenshot of the memory bank tab in CPU-Z?
and how is the fan noise on this thing? is it constantly on, but low? i have a dell XPS m1210 and the fan is off most the time and will only come on at low speed occasionally for cooling, then turn completely off again. -

Bonjour,
I wanted to let everyone know how helpful this forum topic has been to me, I've learned a lot more about the timeline series and I am still learning. So thank you. Anyway, I'm looking to purchase the AS1810T-8638 for when I go back to school in January and I do not feel like paying for MS Word, I was curious if anyone is using Open Office on their Acer?
I read a post that said MS Word was crashing so I thought I would find out how OO is running.
Thanks, -
I'm using Open Office, works great
-
Well glad to hear that!
Thanks. -
Which one do you have the SU7300 or SU4100? Or even the SU2300 - the dual core one?
The SU7300 is dual core right?
What's the battery life like? Getting at least 6.5 hours I hope?
Thanks again my friend -
In any case, I have my answers so ty.

Krista,
I didn't edit any of my original statements, I simply added additional information. All of the model specifications were copied and pasted straight from Acer's site at the time of the original post and updated the RAM configurations yesterday. If you want to believe that I edited the OP in order to make you look bad or myself look better, then you're delusional. I'm not trying to make you look bad and nor am I upset about your opinion of the usefulness of the OP. I agreed that the benchmarks were useful and added them to the OP to make it easier for others. So unless you have something nice to say, I think you and I are done here. -
I am using Ooo too...... its as good as any office suite out there..... I've been using it since 2 years now... basic word processing and spreadsheets.... MS office is not worth the money for a home user IMO.... open source is the way to go.. -
A past post asked about memory so FYI my 1410 came with one 2gb card installed. I purchased a second 2gb sodimm for $28 and installed it in about 3 minutes. Sorry to hear the current ones come with two 1gb cards. On another note has anyone been able to view 1080p blu-ray video inside or outside of Windows 7 media center with anything other than PDVD 9. I can view it in MPC_HC but the video starts looking bad not long into the video. I have PDVD 8 and don't really want to upgrade. What player, codecs, and settings are you using? I would like to be able to plug into my home network and just stream a ripped blu-ray. I am running W7 RTM x64 with 4gb total memory. Thx.

On an SSD, I can open MSO is about a second where it takes 4 on a standard drive.
OOO doesn't show much performance increase on an SSD, it's still much slower opening than MSO. -

Hi there,
My 1810TZ is my main machine, and I'm very happy with it. I come from a Fujitsu U9200 with a T5450 proc (2x1,67GHz) and I am extremely happy with the change I did... Yes, I lost some MHz and raw processing power, but I don't feel the system any slower or unresponsive. I don't run any heavy programs, but I do multitasking a lot and it has always worked fine. -
Hi,
We have purchased a couple of Acer Timline 1810TZ laptops which have Intel Pentium SU4100/1.3 GHz ( Dual-Core ) processors, 3GB of RAM & Windows 7-64bit. They are mainly for using whilst out and about but we went for them as they should have been more than capable of playing Divx (6) and/or H.264 encoded movies.
I have used Nero Recode to convert a couple of test movies to AVC Standard with a fairly low bitrate (1000kps) and although they play, the laptop seems to have an issue keeping the audio perfectly in sync with the video. The video does not jump at all.
I don't think it can be bitrate issues as I copied a complete DVD folder and played that via Media Centre without any problem and that had a bitrate 5x that of my Nero Digital file.
I did not really want to have to mess with 3rd party codecs but I am disappointed that Windows 7 does not appear to play these files perfectly, especially as the H.264/AVC format is not exactly new any more. Surely the processor is fast enough to decode the file? If not then there is some very dodgy advertising going on for some of these laptops!
Has anyone else got any views on the performance of these kind of video files with Windows 7 & the 1810 Timelines? It makes no difference if I use WMP, WMC or Power DVD.

I have successfully upgraded my hard drive to an intel SSD x-25m 80Gb and i am flying people!!!
Big change, Intel`s write speeds aren`t the best but it gets the job done!!
Now TRIM and all is well
Big upgrade!! -

So, BatteryBar is showing me 11 hours, Windows showed me almost 16 hours at 98%, WiFi on, brightness down all the way. I doubt I'll actually see that prove true...but it's a 2 hour increase (per BatteryBar) by moving to the 80GB G1 from the stock 320GB.
If this thing had matte plastics, it'd be damned near perfect. -
Granted the sequential write on the Intel is relatively slower than other controllers, but the Intel will blow away "small" writes vs. everyone else... which in my case gives me better performance vs. other SSD's. The 4kB random write-speeds and IOPS crushes everyone elses...
I'd take that tweak versus pure sequential write anyday!
Cheers,

Thing is though , i did a fresh install (AHCI enabled) got around 70% of the drive empty and there are some weird readings for the 4k read/writes. I was looking back for your results but couldn`t find them since the thread has become huge
Any chance you could dig`em up for me?
Here is what i get , any suggestions are welcome!

My G1 got 235.8, 75.61; 177, 74.80; 8.356, 31.89
That was run on battery, if that matters.
This was not a fresh installation, this was a clone of the fresh install made for the stock 320GB 5400rpm (luckily, it would seem Macrium Reflect Free keeps the sector offset that Vista creates by default, so this being a cleaned up clone -shouldn't- matter.).
(Just for fun, the computer I'm looking at selling to afford the 160GB G2 I just bought got this: Hitachi 5k160 40GB 5400 rpm 41.62, 41.51; 22.11, 22.87; .356, .954) -
I also use arcsoft total media theater 3 for playing some of the files as well. It has a setting to use hardware for decoding also. -

Hello everyone - been following your posts for a long time, just joined today.
I ordered an 1810T from amazon on Monday, and I'm making my Windows 7 DVD right now so I can reformat when I get it next week. I downloaded a .torrent for it, the x64 RTM Ultimate version, but when I run the Removal Utility to remove ei.cfg, the program says it doesn't exist. And indeed, it really doesn't, after I checked the iso with an iso editor. Will my DVD still be universal and let me install any version? -
New BIOS (3302) has noticeably improved the time to resume from hibernation on my 1410-- used to be about 30 secs, now it's 20-25 secs. However, I did not see an improvement in the full boot time.

blah, i'm anxious to order this thing... but i gotta wait till next pay check... is there any chance there will be a holiday deal on the 1410? i know its a good deal as is, but just thought id ask... ive seen a list of atom netbooks that will be on "sale"
anyway, i found a really nice set of unboxing pictures through a twitter search http://www.flickr.com/photos/tnkgrl/4118275753/in/set-72157622839313236/
my girlfriend just got the toshiba that it is pictured against, so i have a really good idea of size now, and the color looks nice... -
Seems like Acer is not keeping up with the demand for both the 1410/SU2300,
and the 1810T/SU7300. Notice that J&R is almost empty.
And I saw a 4 to 6 week delivery on one site last night.
I'd say get one while you can. Especially if Christmas is a factor.
I'm guessing that Acer is about to replace the current 1410
with an upgraded 1410 for ~$449. Probably will come with a 250 HD
and maybe Bluetooth.
Acer could add 3G mobile broadband & a 500 HD to their 1810T to sell for maybe $679.
Sneaky way to raise the prices. -
My boot time went from 60+ seconds to 30! Impressed? You bet!
Also no vibrations or sounds from the hdd -finally-, that`s just awesome for me -
-
Seems a bit daft to bundle software with the laptop which in its OEM form can't support the hardware? I thought that was the whole point of PowerDVD being included?
Also does using hardware acceleration vastly reduce battery life or does it actually make playback more efficient?
I was rather hoping that by getting a shiny new Win7 laptop I would not have to mess around with trying 3rd party software etc -

So, Bios 3303 is out!
Does anybody know the full changelog? Or the only benefit has been resume from hibernate?
I don't have a clue why Acer decides to release new Bios but won't post the changelog and explain which changes and/or bugfixes it inclues. Damn.. -
Damn again?
I just updated to 3302 like yesterday
What are we supposed to do? Run Bios updates sooner than Windows updates?
One of these updates is gonna break my machine, i feel it!
Dear god.. -
Read the text on the Acer BIOS download page
-
Presumably I should install the ZH7_3303_x64.exe Bios on my UK 1810TZ?
-
Ιf you are running a 64bit OS then yeah, thats the correct file
If anyone updates please let us know, i don`t want to be the first -
I want to do a fresh install and will be using an external dvd drive for this. As I have no windows 7 discs, I have downloaded a torrent "windows 7 ultimate retail (final) x64. Can I use this DVD to install Home Premium and use the serial on the bottom of my 1810tz??
-
As for a guide, search forum for windows 7 clean install guide. It was posted on this (Acer) forum a couple of weeks ago and should answer all your questions. -
