Is the SU2300 being dual core a better processor than the SU3500?
Are both 1810 models actually single core processors?

In other words, what are the top two, perhaps, CPUs on each model?

Same. Quick reference and user guides, but that's it.

Anyway, I'll toss some pictures up comparing it against my other laptops.

Well then, that must be what I wiped out! I didn't bother to read them. :)

I'm about to go back and wipe out Windows 7 too. I've only played with it for about 20-30 minutes so far. I should just keep a VM of it. I guess I don't have a need for Windows any more, but I keep thinking I'm going to change my mind some day. Yeah, I'll just leave it there just in case. (See what I mean? :) )

Sorry about that, I didn't bother looking at them.

You have some tanks there! I got rid of all of my 14" C-series Latitudes and a 15.4" Vostro 1500 that just sat on a table (no desktops in our house since 1997). I picked up the Acer and kept my Vostro 1400. Now I never even use the Vostro and it sits on the table. Since my wife and kids keep stealing the Acer from me all of the time, I think I'm going to sell it an get another 11.6" or 12.1" machine. I/we really like the size and weight of these things and they serve my/our needs perfectly.

finally using my new 1810t with su7300...im LOVING this thing.

definitely capable of everything I have thrown at it...and the battery life is amazing!

    only a couple complaints....
the hinge for the screen seems to have quite a bit of play in it...but it still holds the screen up where i put it.
also, i hate the blinking light when i am using wireless....its just sortof annoying..
last...the screen on my unit is not perfectly centered in the bezel and it just bothers me because I am anal.
Batterybar says I have 3:16 left with 80% charge...but im guessing that it will soon learn that it will go alot longer than that..

wanted to also mention that I picked up a External DVD-R/Blu-ray drive for it...cheapest one I could find on ebay. Panasonic uj-120..
i must say that I am very impressed with it...it worked great for writing the recovery disks and I tried out some blu-ray movies with it and it played them just fine!! if anyone has trouble playing blu-ray movies...download powerDVD 9 ultra. It plays them using the hardware decoding of the intel card and they play perfectly!
also, the dolby headphones effect works amazingly well to portray full surround sound with the headphones on! the hdmi works great too, everything about this system is awesome!

anyone notice the flash 10.1 beta seems to have much worse quality video...maybe its just me.
also seems to play even worse on this computer...maybe only the ati/nvidia users would see any difference.

I actually wish more laptops would flash for wireless activity. My craptop (DV8230US) does that in Linux, but in Windows, it stays solid. My Thinkpad flashes for all activity. My 8710W stays solid. If anything, I'd complain that the LED is orange rather than blue.

If anyone has the idea to put an Zagg Invisible Shield, 3M Clear Bra, or similar on the lid be extremely careful with your liquid spray. I thought I was reasonably careful, but now I have moisture behind the LCD.

I'm attempting to dry it out by using a mild amount of heat to the lid / LCD panel, but it's not working very well. :(

Yes. And I've tested it on both our 1410/1810T line, ATI 4890's and nVIDIA GTX 260M with the same results. Video quality is garbage, IMHO.

Ack! :( Good luck on getting it removed :(

Thanks, it's been very slow going. I've got it in front of a space heater and I've carefully been monitoring the temperature of it with an IR thermometer to make sure it doesn't get too hot. I had it in front of the heater for about 2 hours last night and had only a little improvement at the top edge. :(

I asked about the same thing on the other thread (1810 single-core), but I'm looking for more input before I buy the laptop =)

    Main concerns:
    1. How's the battery life of the SU4100? Does it differ from the other versions?

    2. How's the 1810TZ performance-wise? How will it stand up to Photoshop or Audio editing software, and maybe some old games (HL1, HL2, Deus Ex, etc)

    3. The sound quality; Does anyone get the strange interference from the 3.5 jack (getting interference from the innards of the computer)?

    4. Portability: Is it easy to carry around in a backpack? I'll be hauling it to school about 3-5 days a week.

    Thanks for the help =)

Well I ended up sleeping on it more than just one night, after all, it's going to cost me €619- (and although not "relative", just to - none the less - freak out the U.S.A peeps, that comes out to roughly $900... lol).

And so I just ordered the white version of the full-package "Euro" deal:
    SU4100
    3GB RAM
    320GB HDD
    BT 2.0
    Draft-n
    HSDPA / UMTS

Will take ample pics when I get my hands on it (and if you've seen my XPS 1330 pics - link in my sig. below - you know what you can expect ;))

funny, I just asked about Photoshop and audio production a few pages back too, what software do you use? The best I could come up with was comparing the passmark scores to the machine I have been using and estimating that way. What kind of work do you do?

Well, on photoshop I usually make personalized backgrounds (@1280x1024 or 1366x768) either with vectors or with my Wacom tablet. On the audio side of things, I usually use Adobe Soundbooth to record (bass/guitar) then mix 'em together, and I use Sonic 8 to add drums/synth to some tracks.

I purchased my acer 1810t from amazon and recieved it yesterday. I wanted to wipe out everything and install w7 ultimate. Before the reformat, the HDD showed 288gb. I know that acer creats a partition of 12gb. When i reformatted the HDD showed 300gb. Shouldnt this come with the 320gb? on the box and sticker it shows 320gb? what gives? thanks

@ phanmanacer: I think this has to do with HDD manufacturers considering 1e+9 bits as 1 Gb, while in binary representation (2^n) its slightly larger than that. So, while windows calculates a 320 Gb in binary representation, the HDD manufacturer did it as 1e+9

@nuuser: look for one of my earlier posts in this forum: I posted some pics of my blue 1810t. I don't think it is any less of a fp magnate than the black one.

    Hi Guys,
    After reading almost all pages...
    I finally ordered the black AS1410/SU2300. :)

I got it brand new in ebay at 399.99 (free ship/no tax) and also got 8% bing cashback ($32)...it is pending but it is supposed to be applied in my paypal.

(Just wanted to let you know about the 8% cashback on ebay, in case someone didn't know)

I'm still waiting for my friend who works for Microsoft to get me a employee (+family+friends) discounted Win7 Ultimate DVD, that I'll then use to do the fresh install. The company stores are out of stock, but they have to have some on Friday -- so I hope to do the install over the weekend and report back.

Are you consistently seeing the better battery life with the fresh install? I am hoping to have that to look forward to after all the work with the fresh install :)

sorry if this has been discussed already, but has anyone else experienced a fairly noticeable buzz/whine through headphone use with the 1410? It seems to be related to interference from the CPU/motherboard, as it goes away when the CPU is above 30% or so usage. I know a lot of laptops have this issue but I've owned a bunch and it's never been as bad as what I'm experiencing now. any1 have a potential solution?

Well, you if you would have actually bothered to read the OP, you would have found that the processors were clearly stated. :p :)

I don't mind adding the benchmarks to the OP, but I don't won't be updating them all the time. The big thing is that the benchmarks are constantly changing, especially with the release of Windows 7. Still, it's nice to see the relative performance differences between the processors.

That's the best deal I have seen on a 1410/SU2300 combo. At this pricepoint, why even bother with Atom based netbooks, unless you just have to have the ION GPU.

Nope nothing new, at least for me.

People have reported though that the computer recovers faster from hibernation/sleep and there are no more distortions.

Since i had no problems with either issues, i noticed absolutely nothing :)

Offtopic (please be kind) : Kermee did your Windows 7 version "understand" by its own that you got a SSD installed? I`m about to add the same Intel X-25 G2 tomorrow and will do a clean install. Anything i need to have in mind ? Please pm :)

Telling us what the processors are doesn't tell us How they perform. Which is why the sig was a heck of a lot more useful, and Excuse me for asking a question, you didn't have to be a jerk about it.

You'll note, if you bothered to read MY post that I knew which were dual core.
"Is the SU2300 being dual core a better processor than the SU3500?" However, being dual core does not automatically make it a better cpu.

Well, heat to dry it out wasn't working so I disassembled the screen from the lid and proceeded to take the actual LCD apart. There was a surprising amount of liquid in between the enhancement films, and between the films and the LCD panel. Where it has dried it left a visible residue. I'm trying a last ditch effort to clean the films and put it all back together, but I don't expect it will be successful. I expect I will have to buy a replacement LCD panel. :(

So, learn from my mistake and don't put any protection film on the notebook that requires liquid to apply it. I have done this sort of thing to other devices and have some idea what I'm doing and have never had this issue before. :( :(

First and most importantly, the little " :p :) " was my attempt to make it clear that I was being "good natured" with my comments. Sorry it didn't come off like that.

Secondly, I started this thread before anyone had these models. At that time, benchmarks were not available or very limited. Besides, I simply wanted to present the data that was available at that time.

Lastly, I did read your post and you clearly were not sure which 1810 models were dual-core processors:

Yeah... Different chassis... different cooling... Any time you jam more into a smaller place, usually you're going to be holding higher temps for the same thermal envelope.

Thanks to Newegg putting up a code that knocked their $589 160GB G2 down to $415, my 1810T is getting upgraded to my Thinkpad's old 80GB G1. I don't need that much storage for this, and I should hopefully notice a small batter bump out of it. The performance bump is a no-brainer.
