Thanks for the link. Is there any information available which states that the 3GB version has 1 or 2 ram modules? I have read that 2 modules is a must have because of the dual channel performance boost..
-
It can only have two modules. There are 2 slots that can take 2GB each.
-
I want one! Im in the UK though and theres only a few listings with no pictures and they all say "out of stock"
Are they waiting on the official launch of windows 7 on the 22nd?
-
Well, I've been researching other 11.6" such as the Toshiba T115 and the Asus UL20 and they both don't stack up to the 1810. Toshiba came close with the same price but no bluetooth. While the Asus has neither bluetooth or HDMI. Looks like I'll be one of the first in line in the States for the 1810.
-
Is Acer a good brand? I've heard bad stories about Acer, but I really want to believe that all brands can have problems...
-
Yeah, I think you nailed it in your analysis
-
I even looked at the Dell 11z, but it was $75 more for the su4100 and there is no option for the su7300. Also, it only has one simm slot which is kinda wierd.
-
but i think the screen of toshiba t115/ samsung x120 is better
-
Toshiba is also considered a good brand. I've had one from 97 still going strong, while two new ones (from P205 and A-205 line) got me burnt twice in a row. So brand reputation alone won't save you from possible issues.
I only began to like Acer this year (mostly because of information from this site), purchased a used Travelmate 4230 recently and it's been good so far.
I can't vouch for the recent 3810 issues, but I will be one of the early adopters for the 1810s when it comes here in the US of A. -
http://gadgetmix.com/index/tag/acer-1810tz/
1810tz retailing for $800?!
Is there any truth to this? If that is accurate, then I'm out. -
Since neither one of those models has been released yet, what are you basing that opinion on? I wouldn't be suprised if they're all produced by the same manufacturer. I seem to remember reading that at least samsung was getting their 11.6" screens from the same supplier. Not sure though.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
No that is wrong. The 1810t is $599 and the 1810tz is $549 (actual US price not yet announced). -
Sounds like something that would go perfectly in class! =D =D
-
Maybe there is a $799 1810T_ with an SU9400 cpu, 12 hour battery, 3G wireless, etc.
Or $799 also seems like a realistic price for the new 1820P tablet. -
Can anyone that already owns an 1810Tz please tell me if it has provision for a broadband PCIe mini-card? Provision for a SIM card is (of course) also necessary... . Phil's review of the 1810T shows clearly that there is physical room for one (see the printed PCB), but no electrical interface (or antenna)...
I still can't believe there is so little interest in a Netbook with built-in broadband...
It's so nice to be able to start up my Dell M1330 and access WAN / WWAN / BT devices w/o having to plug in some USB "dongle"...
p.s. For potential Austrian buyers, both the red & black models are already appearing in online stores... -
I've been thinking the same thing.
But I have no knowledge or experience with 3G wireless, etc
Maybe you folks can help!

"I ordered an Acer 1810TZ-413G32N in "Seemuschelweiß" (seashellwhite). It is the same as the Acer 1810TZ-412G25N base model but has an internal 3G module (7,2 mbps down, 5,7 up), Bluetooth 2.1, 3 GB RAM and a 320 HD. It will arrive next week."
Find a few on the web using "Acer 1810TZ-413G32N" via Google. -
Thanks for the heads-up! I obviously missed it...
Tag!
Where did you order yours? Seeing as many DE firms deliver to AT & CH, I might give them a try
A quick Google search brought up Notebook.de as the only hit, however i see no mention of a G3 (aka HSDPA / UMTS) broadband PCIe mini-card... was it with them? Are they reliable?
Thx for the help
Edit: Did find it on their vendor list though... -
Doesn't the new Fujitsu P look exactly like the 1810?

Hey traveller, alter Ösi
I gave the link in #100. Acer uses Huawei modules. Huawei started working with MS in 2008 to ensure its modules get supported by Windows 7, so one doesn't even need 3rd party software to run the 3g module. With Windows 7 they are supported natively just like WiFi! Awesome, isn't it?
Read about it here.

My big dilemma is which to get, the 1810 or the 3810.....decisions decisions. I bought an external DVD drive so i'm ready to go........This will be my primary laptop and i'm worried the 11.6 will be too small.
-
I own a AS1410 and I have a Dell Vostro 1400 (14") that I hardly use now. I might keep the 1410, sell the dell and get a 1810tz or similar to replace it. I'm fine with the 11.6" screen size and I love how easy it is to handle.
-
If you don't mind me asking, why do you own 2 laptops?
-
You could hook up the 1810 to an LCD and a USB keyboard+mouse to create a nice desktop-like environment when you need the screen real-estate and ergonomics. At least that's what I do at home, and is standard policy at work.
-
Actually, if you count the laptop I gave my father-law to use I have three and I recently sold three others. I used to keep 3 or 4 for a business application and 2 or 3 for the house. Ha, ha.
First of all, I haven't owned a desktop in about 10 years. So my wife, two boys and I only use laptops. I try to keep two or three in the house. Lucky for me, my kids are young and my wife doesn't use the computers much, so I usually get my choice.
-
You only have 3 in your house? I personally own 3 (one is a Tablet that I don't use much anymore, one is the upstairs desktop replacement, one is the tiny Acer note-taker) and have 2 more from work. My roomate just bought a laptop so I guess that puts us at 6 in the house. We both also have desktops. Too much electronic gear here.
-
is that tweak to enable virtualization works with 1810tz (su4100)?
-
Servas 8^)
Thx for the info and for the source! Have you purchased from Notebook.de before? I also saw the "in stock in 5 days" tag... that alone says little, so I'm guessing you wrote / called them directly when you ordered?
Thx again for helping out
p.s. Actually, I'm not Austrian (bin "Genfer", CH), but I've been living here for some years already (see sig for my trans-continental journey
)
-
Im sorry, but the su4100 doesn't support VT.
-
@ traveller
No, I haven't ordered from them before. I figured the shop is reliable as they have a lot of positive reviews and the domain "notebook.de" has to be worth quite some. The mails I received from them after ordering were professional. I chose payment on delivery by UPS (costs only 3 Euro more).
I know the 5 days don't say a lot but didn't mail or call them about it. When I ordered it was "about one week" for the white model and IIRC 10 days for the black model (now 5 days as well). The 3-4 weeks of the red model didn't change from when I ordered. So they really seem to expect a delivery shortly or already got white and black delivered. I guess they aren't allowed to send them out before Win 7 launch on the 22nd. -
I wonder if Quanta is the originator of this:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/16/fujistu-p-series-notebooks-announced-said-to-be-snazzy/#continued
There are some characteristics that point in this direction, like battery/hinge design and the power button shape/style. -
I saw that. Looks like an 1810 to me.
-
come on retailers & etailers..........lets start with the preorders already, the 22nd is only 4 business days from now. What is the holdup???
-
Howdy,
just read that Acer releases another colour variant: "Olympic" (silver).
Seashellwhite <- I get that next week
Olympic -
I'm somewhat miffed already that there are only two colors available in the U.S. while there are others elsewhere with the dual-core 1810 (red and now the cool white). What bothers me more is that after I plunk down the cash to get the black, Acer will go ahead and announce a cool new color a couple months later in the U.S. itself (probably to bolster sagging sells).
-
I am trying to decide the same thing. The new 3810t weighs only 3.5 Lbs. and still has the 8 hour battery life. Does having use of a larger screen outweigh the larger size.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Nice, Olympic almost makes it look like the other Timeline's. I think I still will get black though.
-
Yeah, I have not decided yet, I will have to play with both in the store and then i'll decide. I don't want to regret getting the 1.6" smaller screen if there is not much difference in form factor.
-
I'm totally with you on this. However, based on past experience I'm trying to keep my expectations low. I mean afterall, there's no guarantee that this thing will even be available on the 22nd. Only that it will be available sometime AFTER the 22nd.
-
Fair enough! I use Geizhals and their vendor reviews, but didn't see Notebook.de pop up when I went looking for the 1810TZ...
I will also go with the white - fingerprints are such a pain on every other non-matt surface! My first Sony PSP was piano-black but I took ceramic white for the second one...
No, white's the way to go but no worries, you'll be the first to have it and I'm looking forward to your comments when you get it
EDIT: Well this should make us feel better, Notebook.de is an official "ACER Online Partner"...
-
On a semi-related note, has anyone read anywhere that the existing 1410 will be refreshed to come with Win 7 pre-installed?
Or perhaps a better way of asking that is "Does anyone expect Acer to continue offering Core 2 Solo-based 11.6" models with Win 7?"
If the dual-core models don't start arriving by the end of Oct, then I may go ahead and bite on a leftover 1410, as I'll be doing a good bit of traveling in Nov & Dec and would need to have a new unit by that time. -
Just depends on when and where the single-cores finally sell out. All we really know is that Intel stopped manufacturing the single-cores a few weeks ago. Link to Hexus.
The System 7 machines will sell at close to list price for a while. The Vista machines will be discounted.

Also, slightly off topic.
But too exciting not to cross post.
Acer has listed its new 11.6" Tablets on the Acer US website.
Lots new- DDR3 ram, 8GB max, G3 option, two display resolutions, etc
1820PT with the Intel Core2Dual SU7300
1820PTZ with the Intel DualCore SU4100
Discussion should probably follow at the Acer 1820 Tablet Forum. -
How can the tablets be priced the same? I figured they would be more.
-
I'm intrigued by tablets, even though I've never used them. Maybe someone can tell me how they use the tablets in real-life differently than laptops (basically, stuff that you cannot do with laptops that you can do with tablets, or at least significantly better with tablets)?
I understand that in scenarios such as in the medical industry, the touchscreen-based usage is useful, but I'm looking outside of those niches... assuming I'm missing something about tablets in regular day-to-day life... -
I have seen people using tablets for inventory management purposes in warehouse and shipping terminals, so I can imagine that's a fantastic niche right there. As far as actual value to the average consumer or in day in, day out business use, I think it would be much less valuable.
However, it'd be cool to lay in bed or on the crapper and flip through an e-book or two or just to web browsing in tablet mode. If I had a tablet, I think I'd do a LOT more e-book reading & lengthier PDF file reading. I came close to buying an HP TX2 Touchsmart earlier in the year but found the FF just a tad bulky and I couldn't justify the price after having just upgraded my netbook. -
That's really cool, but where are you getting those prices?
-
Woops!!! Big mistake.
I quoted the new 1810T prices.
No pricing (or release date) yet for the Tablets. -
can anyone shed some light on the real difference between the 4100 and the 7300....i looked at the intel website...the only differences i found were:
4100 is a pentium processor with 2mb cache?
7300 is a duo core processor with 3mb cache?
What does those mean anyway? -
I've been thinking exactly the same for quite a while.
But prices have dropped and technology has advanced in cell phones, the iTouch, and Sys7 Touch. So I'm going to give it a try. Heck, my notebooks are half toy, anyway. I was much encouraged by this review on Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows. Start halfway down the page.
"In fact, (System 7's Window's Touch) works so well, you miss it when it's gone. After getting used to multi-touch on .... two multi-touch enabled machines, a Lenovo ThinkPad 400s notebook computer and a Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet PC, I found it hard to return to my traditional PCs. In fact, I've reached out to "touch" objects on my regular display, which has proven disappointing since this display doesn't support the functionality."
This recent 1810 Tablet's Thread has info, links, and even a couple short videos. -
Other than the 1MB of cache difference I believe the su7300 has VT while the su4100 does not. This matters if you want to use the virtual XP mode in Win7 or if you want to have hardware virtualization. As far as I can tell that's the only difference. The comparisons at Intel leave too much blank...if you see a check or X you can be pretty sure but the blank stuff is up in the air. For instance Intel shows the su4100 as being 64bit while it neglects to list that fact with the su7300. With Dell charging only $30 more for the su7300 there probably isn't much of a difference.
