Man, finally!
I'm wondering if the 1810 dual core advertised (su7300) is worth the $200 premium over the single core--

Professional or ultimate version is required to make use of virtual XP mode.

Found this when searching on jr.com
Pages don't go anywhere yet but they must be updating today.
Now, I just have to decide between the 1810 & the 3810. $200 difference. -
I wouldn't touch their products with a ten foot pole. Bad, bad, bad customer service. Kinda sucks if the item you buy has something wrong with it.
Stick with Amazon. -
I have not ever purchased computers from them but i have purchased a lot of electronics, never had to deal with customer service however.
-
They're ok if you don't have to deal with their customer service-
I have made it a practice not to reward unwarranted bad behaviour, especially when so many other companies are willing to serve you better.
J&R has been around for quite a long time. My experience with them has been consistently bad. Both face to face and online.
But to each his own. If you're ok with them, then by all means, buy from them. They do honor returns, but not before they give you the "what is wrong with you, why are you making me do all this work" feeling. There's no reason to make your customer feel small-
I've posted my comment so people have a picture of what they might potentially run into with this company. -
-
Man, I swear that last night those links were taking me to Acer's US site. Now I see it's Acer Europe. Anyway I'm interested in the tablet's, but as others have pointed out it's really just a novelty unless your an artist or something. With Amazon taking pre-orders for the 1810T I don't think I can wait any longer.
Decisions, decisions... -
Finally! Alas, I'm still waiting for the SU7300 in black, which should be the SKU 1810T-8638. Thats still not listed on Amazon, though it appears on JR.com. However, I'd like to stick to Amazon, so I keep waiting
-
You have more patience than I do. I'm calling J&R tomorrow and if they really will ship on the 22, then I'm going to order one. I get free 2nd day shipping because of the crap I had to go through last time regarding the return of the 1410.
-
Which company did you order your 1410 with?
-
J&R. It took them a month to credit my credit card.
-
I guess at least you got the 2-day free shipping.
-
I don't get the pre-order excitement. These things always drop in price as time goes on. I paid over $430 for my Samsung N120, and steadily dropped in price from that point until now. The only factor I see here is how fast the dollar slides. If it slides fast enough, the prices could end up going up, not down.
-
Yeah, i'm not preordering either. I want to play with it first in a retail setting and then wait for a price drop or a bing.com cashback offer w/ no tax/free shipping online somewhere.
I'm happy the preorders are up because that means we might see them retail this week..... -
That white looks fake to me, but I hope it isn't. It is confirmed to come to the U.S? I would buy an all white model.
-
And this is an incentive to wait?
-
Personally, I'm excited because I've been waiting for this combination of features, battery life, and processing power, to be available in an 11.6" form factor since the AO751H was launched. It's been a long wait, and I'm willing to pay the (reasonable) launch price, because it's exactly what I want. I really don't care that the price will eventually drop as that's the case with just about any purchase, unless it's being closed out or something.
Patience is a virtue, but when you consider the fact that I don't even currently own a laptop, I think I've waited long enough!
-
No, I'm saying that's the only thing that could prevent it from getting cheaper over time like all electronics normally do.
-
The 1410 and 1810 are relatively in high demand. It's unlikely to get lower in price anytime soon. The SU2300 is already pretty low ($399 for a dual core) to begin with. I just don't see this model dropping to $350 by christmas.
Also, there are still quite a few netbooks out there around the $400 mark- -
EVERYTHING in electronics will drop in price as time goes on. My Sony XBR dropped over a few thousand after 1 year, but so what? I wanted it and I got it. If you wait for the prices to go down, you'll never buy it because something better will come along.
-
Do the su7300 & 1GB ram worth $50?
-
I don't think this Acers will drop in price very fast as they are relatively low-end and offer unrivaled value for the money atm. Very high-end (gamer) gear is what drops quickly.
-
Yeah, caught my eye too, but keep in mind that among all the good things, the extra weight of the tablet configuration is a downer. After all, we are still talking "Netbooks" and so I think wieght is crucial... :-/
-
If it's important to you, the SU4100 does not have VT (ironically, the lowest end 2300 does) or XP virtualization Mode.

I am leaning towards the su7300 now, since I won't have to purchase a 2GB module to replace that 1GB in there now (and orphan another PC component). -
Well it DOES weigh 3/4 pound more in the tablet configuration but the size is basically the same. The extra weight comes from the hinge. I kinda want to see and hold the tablet version before I decide so I am kinda in a holding pattern with my 1410. Also, if I go to the tablet it takes different RAM so I will probably make more money on my 1410 since I bought 800 Mhz RAM. I also think that the battery is slightly different on the tablet version so someone will get a bonus batter if that is the case (both 5600 and 4400).
-
JR.com now has all models listed.
1810T at $599 black & blue
1810TX at $549 black & blue

BTW, I've ordered plenty from J&R including a 46" Sony.
Never had a problem, but never needed Customer Service. -
Does anyone have the Passmark benchmarks for the su4100 and su7300? I vaguely remember them on the 1410 thread with the su9400...
Never mind, found it:
Maybe this is more accurate:
SU3500 490 points
SU2300 750 points
SU4100 840 points
SU7300 890 points
SU9400 930 points

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
This has a Core 2 Duo or a dual core Pentium processor. Just because the screen is 11.6" does not make it a netbook. The Sony Vaio TT and Asus U1 with 11.1" screens are not considered netbooks, so why should this? -
I'll be looking for bing to be 10%....then i'll pull the trigger.
-
omg...after seeing the amazon page...i'm seriously thinking about the ASUS UL30A-X5.....
the main reason is that i ABSOLUTELY HATE the mouse/trackpad thing....
thanks you all for replying to my 4100 vs. 7300...much loves appreciated! -
Just placed my pre-order for the AS1810T-8679 at Amazon. I even paid for next day shipping (something I never do). When I checked out, it said the estimated delivery date is 10-23-09, so hopefully they actually have them in stock and will ship it out on the 22nd.
We'll see... -
I'm afraid I don't understand. After reading your post I went to Amazon and looked at the Asus to see if it was a touchscreen or something. It appears to have a trackpad and mouse buttons pretty much like the Acer.
What am I missing? -
would bb or frys carry 1810t/ul20/ul30 on 10/22?
so that i can compare them and decide what to buy. -
Any clue as to where one could purchase the new colors? I'm only seeing black/blue/red. =(
-
I am waiting for a white model, Taiwan at least will get it but I hope it will come to North America, looks very attractive to me!
You can see pictures of it below.

For those interested, Liliputing is reporting that the Asus UL20A is also up for pre-order at Amazon (I don't think I've seen this reported here today). The specs are a little thin but I don't see Bluetooth or GigaE. Also, while some of the specs say the battery is 11 hour others say 7+ (interesting). Also, no HDMI that I can see and 2 GB or RAM + a 250 GB HD. CPU is the Dual-Core SU7300. Looks like the Acer 1810T has this one beat (as expected).
-
So I broke down and ordered the blue 1810T
Delivery estimate is 23rd as well.
-
I too broke down-- although I chose the cheapskate route went with the free shipping. Estimate delivery date is Oct 26th.
-
hi guys, any mouse and portable hard drive recommendation?
also any good deal out there? -
I'm researching a nice lappy for my GF and based on the 3,000+ posts here, I gather the Acer 1810T is the hottest notebook of the Win7 wave shipping this Thursday.
I'm trying to decide whether to order it from Amazon (Prime shipping), do the J&R/Bing thing or wait and find it at Fry's.
-
Well, I have the 1410...and gave it to my brother... The trackpad is pretty good... the one thing I hate about it is that my fingers always tend to roll off the pad and into the wrist molding thing.... I'm using the Dell XPS now with has the mouse pad thing in a little square box...rather than it flushing with the molding...
And Touchscreen? -
Amazon is great...I love it...Bing is great too, though you probably have to wait until a few more weeks or months...perhaps BF or near Xmas...
Frys always include tax
-
I'm waiting for Fry's to get theirs. I never owned an Acer but I would like to test out the 1410 with the SU2300 before I jump on it. Though if Costco carries more Acer netbooks/ultraportables, that would be even better.
EDIT: The 1410 and 1810 are similiar right? (I hope I didn't post in the wrong thread lol). -
Wow, the white one looks HOT !!
I will ditch my 1410 for either a brushed aluminum or that all white one. -
the whole range has been released here in Dubai due to a regional IT fare, I'm going over later today to get a hold of the 1810TZ with win7.. I'll report on the findings later..
Cost 1810TZ AED2400 = ~$640
but thats with all the bits Bluetooth 4GB ram 320HD N-Lan etc.....
they released the similar HP DM3 here and thats $1084 !!!! DM1 (Intel only) is $590 !!!!! -
The 1410 is kind of an odd duck because of the single and dual core versions for this generation. Other distinguishing features are the lack of BT, lower RAM, HD and lower capacity battery.
-
Yes. No need to use the trackpad if you have a touchscreen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVEh3f2zVYg
-
Actually I wanted to "quote" what is apparently your signature, but to essentially point out to all a Notebook Mobile Processor benchmarking table over at Notebookcheck. It's interesting to note that the SU4100 is a Pentium Dual Core, but one based on the Core 2 Duo architecture (and not the original & slower "dual core").
-
Point taken and even Acer lists the 14/1810T under standard Notebooks.
It's my mistake but the reason behind it is that I've personally defined Netbooks as being the economical form of an ultraportable Notebook. The TTs are well above 1K here in the EU (...with the exception of maybe UK)...
