I ordered an 1810T on Amazon for the jacked up $680 price (it's $700 now). It shipped today, so I should have it soon.
What are the first steps I should take when I get it? Obviously it'll come with useless stuff I should uninstall (is there a list somewhere, so I don't accidentally uninstall something important for controlling the netbook?) and probably an older BIOS I should update. Anything else?
-
I would never do that, some company obtained a few machines and now is taking advantage of people by jacking the price WAY up. They did this with the UL30vt as well. I could see a small increase in price but 100-150 over, not quite..............

A thousand apologies if this has already been discussed at length, but can anyone recommend a good cover/case for the 1810T?
-
I use this Case Logic case: AMAZON LINK
Fits perfectly and is not bulky. IIRC, there's a Sony-branded version without handles as well.
As an aside, the 1410/1810 notebooks are almost exactly the same size as a Vaio TZ--might help in the case shopping. -
Finally picked it up today, my AS1410. I was there at Fry's for a hour playing around with the display model and deciding. I like it a lot, fan isn't as noisy as I thought and the build quality is better than the netbooks I saw there. I just need to be careful with it though.
-
There are so many different configurations of this computer that it would probably be useful to have had several seperate different threads.
I ordered a AS1410 SU3500 from Tiger Direct through an American Express promo for $304 after the Google checkout discount... sweet deal.
UPS says that my Ruby Red AS1410 should arrive next Weds.
How long is it taking Acer to send out the Win 7 upgrades? -
I have a problem with my external display connected through HDMI. Now and then the display goes on and off. Anyone know a solution?
-
What version of Graphic Drivers have you installed?
-
Thanks for your help.
It wouldn't manually switch the driver to the latest one. Using the automatic installation with the .exe file worked and seems to have solved the problem. -
Im thinking about ordering something a silicone keyboard cover for my Acer AS1410. Anyone used something similar to this on other notebooks?
http://cgi.ebay.com/Keyboard-Silico...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item414ad6feb4
I had flat matte style keys on my Dell and over the years they started fading and turning shiny. I guess another possibility is replacing the keyboard since its like cheap on ebay. -
Hi... I just received my 1410 su2300.. so far really disappointed. I am having a hard time getting good wifi (i think). I can't even watch a standard def you tube vide with out it pausing or just stopping. I have a EEE 1000HE that flies through the vid..this 1410 should be way faster-right? I noticed the wireless speed won't stay at 130mbps..its just all over the place..even down to 28mbps. I have 2 other laptops that never drop below 130. Does anyone have advice? Thanks for the help
-
The CPU of the 1410 is much faster than the 1000HE, but what you're describing sounds like a wifi problem, not CPU.

That listing looked bogus to me. It wasn't actually from Amazon (if we're discussing the same listing), it was from a third party seller. On the seller's own website they had it listed as an as1810-LX. (No "T".) So I'm curious what you're going to get. Let us know.
I was one of the lucky ones who got an as1810T-8638 (black) direct from Amazon for $600. As far as I know, no Acer authorized seller has had it in stock since.
Acer lists only four authorized "online sellers" (their term) on their website:
J&R, Amazon, NewEgg, PC Connection.
And they list 28 "retail stores" in the U.S.
<http://us.acer.com/acer/buy.do>
Ordering from anyone else (in the U.S.) could result in a problem, either for what product you will get or for warranty issues, i.e., grey market products.
After reading this lengthy (and informative) thread, I'm going with the rumor that Acer is kicking themselves in the rear for selling a product with better specs and lower price than Dell's and HP's products that have worse specs anf higher prices. So no more as1810T's. To be followed by a new Acer product with cosmetic changes and a higher price. I hope I'm wrong. I know a bunch of people who would like to get an as1810T at $600. -
Thanks Phil,
I was thinking the same thing..a WiFi issue? I was just wondering...anyone with a 1410, does your wifi speed stay consitant? Or vary like mine? It's pretty frustrating..I watch a few web series and teh few I have played can't even get through a 5 minute episode without the video stopping or skipping. Like I said...the 1000HE runs smoothly. I was thinking maybe it's not running in the Draft-N??? I am not that savy on wireless..any ideas or tips? Thanks so much. -

"can anyone recommend a good cover/case for the 1810T?"
From other posts, it looks like I'm in the minority. I want a case, not a sleeve, that actually _protects_ the computer when I'm carrying it around. After reading lots of reviews, I got the "Targus CityGear Netbook Case for up to 10.2" Netbooks".
http://www.amazon.com/Targus-CityGe...f=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1260657168&sr=1-16
It comes in 10.2, 15.4, and 17" sizes. Like other reviews said, it fits the 11.6" 1810T. It's a little tight, but it fits. There are pockets galore: front, inside, back, and even the top flap. Us geeks like lots of pockets to store our techy tools. We get anxious when we don't have one of those little double ended screwdrivers handy.
One of the reviews complained that the shoulder strap is not removable. I solved that by carefully cutting it off. You can't tell that it was ever there. I'm never going to carry such a small bag over my shoulder anyway. And when I'm carrying multiple bags, it's small enough to fit inside some larger bag that I'm carrying.
Be aware though that this is larger than a sleeve -- which I don't believe really provides much protection.
The only possible problem (pointed out by my wife, it's not a problem for me) is that it's not quite big enough to carry the AC power cord My response is that the battery time on this computer is outstanding, and if I ever need the AC power cord (not often), I'll just throw it in another bag.
It is really high quality. I like it a lot. I ended up getting it at Best Buy, where it was (strangely) a dollar cheaper than on Amazon. -

Hi all, just picked up a 1410 - quick question:
Is there any way to set it up so that the system resumes from standby when you open up the lid? I've got to press the power button to resume it. This is the only notebook I've ever owned that has behaved this way.
Thanks! -
-
Thanks for the response - yes, I can press any key as well, just wondering if there was some kind of setting (maybe in the BIOS) that resumed without pressing any key.

Hi2all,
I wanted to get a sleeve for my 1810TZ but the search is turning out to be harder than I thought... :-/ I'm sort of narrowing the search to the EU so a few popular brands from the States may not be available here... .
I've also determined that the 1810T's not too far off the 751 in terms of size:
1810T: 285x204x<30mm
751: 284x198x<30mm
First option I'm considering is Crumpler's Wrappers" that sell pretty decent-looking sleeves tailored for the 1810TZ (/751). They are being sold through AmazonUK.
Worst case, I could consider this simple but nice neoprene job available via AmazonU.S. The problem is by the time shipping and customs costs are added, the price ain't right no more...
What did you all get to protect your 1410/1810ers?
p.s. What I'd really love is for Philips to put out a 12" edition of their quasi-hard sleeves. I have one for my 13" M1330 and it's great. First of all, it makes for a great sleeve. Secondly, one side of the sleeve is hard so that you can place the sleeve on your lap and lay the Notebook on the hard side, which allows for air circulation. It's a 2in1 dealLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Have you tried updating the wifi driver? I don't have a 'N' capable router, but I'm extremelly happy with wifi performance in my 1810TZ. -
-
hi..Patrick
thanks for the reply. Yes..I have updated the driver from Intel site. Its the WiFi Link 1000bgn. Still very inconsistent. I am happy with the speed and performance when it does work...it's just a little frustrating not knowing if watching a video, even a standard you tube vid, not asking for HD, it will stop etc. If just very stange and random. Its also not just videos..I few programs I downloaded had issues too..one took 20 mnutes..stopping twice cause of lost internet connection. I downloaded the same program a few minutes later to the 1000HE and it took 3 minutes...just stuff like that is frustrating..being this is a new and faster laptop than the 1000HE. Thaniks for all the help.. -
I finally broke down and ordered a Kingston 128 Gb V-series SSD yesterday. I figured that I needed at least a 100 Gb space, and was willing to spend only the least possible for it (after all this is a $ 600 laptop). I also wanted a SSD, because I observed myself "moving" (as in tilting, etc) the 1810t way more than my MacBook Pro, say -- I think that's because it's hard not to, when its an ultraportable. AFAIK, the 1810t or the stock HDD has no built-in accelerometer to prevent motion-damage to the HDD.
None of the reviews (and there are many) reported any stuttering with the redesigned Jmicron controller/Kingston firmware, though the 4 K write speeds are among the lowest in SSDs. Nevertheless, I think I am getting what I am willing to pay for
EDIT: Here's a rather comprehensive review/comparison of the Kingston vs. the Intel, which made me choose the Kingston for its "value" price vs. capacity without any apparent real/serious problems.

But you stated -correctly- that you know what you`re getting for you money, so i won`t say a thing -

I guess its my philosophy that everyone deserves a second chance that made me go for the "redesigned" Jmicron.
More seriously, though, I have a 1 year vendor warranty + 3 year Kingston's warranty that made me bite at that price of the SSD. In the worst case, I'll probably have to deal with the nuisance of a Kingston RMA, but I'm feeling adventurous -- since I couldn't otherwise see myself get an SSD at a higher per Gb price in the foreseeable future (~ 1 year). Keeping my fingers crossed. -
I put my own copy of Windows 7 on my 1410, and now I don't have an OSD for volume and brightness changes. How do I get this back?

Edit: It actually fitted my Acer 751 like a glove. I sold it before I could try it on my 1810T but I assume they have almost the same dimensions. It's a tight fit though. -

And a final followup: JR gave a full refund on my 1810t.
And I miss it.
But kudos to JR for not hitting me with a restocking fee. -

Btw, spent the past week reading this entire thread, along with the tweaks thread. Fantastic stuff! -
Would anyone who has a 1810t recommend doing a clean install of Windows 7? I've been using it for about a week and see about 6:30 of full battery life. Would a clean install help get me up to 8?

Of course, since you are willing to do anything to have it, the 67% price increase should be no problem at all. -
-
Where can I get BIOS updates for my 1810T? Acer.com doesn't seem to have them where I'm looking.
Also what preloaded stuff can I safely remove? I don't want to accidentally disable my webcam or something.
EDIT: also, should I update to the audio and video drivers from RealTek and Intel right away, over the Acer ones? -
-
Thanks, don't know how I missed that.
Any other first steps for setting everything up for optimal performance?
EDIT: Also am I better off using the drivers from the individual components manufacturers' sites, or Acer.com? -
I think it's better to use the Intel drivers for chipset. They're newer.
But then again, my Acer 1810tz is giving me some problems through HDMI which may be caused by the drivers. I'm not sure yet. -
-
Thanks. Do I need to uninstall the old ones first, or can I just install the new ones over them?
