Good deal. I got the blue one from Fry's, but I had to do in-store pickup since it was sold out.

I'd jump all over it at that price if I were you. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll make sure to get Futureshop to refund me the difference :). I originally wanted to get it from ME but they didn't have any in inventory.

Just install the latest synaptic driver (I posted a link in the tweaks thread) to get all the goodies. Also install the latest intel video driver for great 1080P, DXVA playback.

I have also had weird issues with the Intel drivers including scaling and odd gamma when hoooking up a new monitor/TV. I uninstalled all the Intel video drivers in the Programs/Features so it defaulted back to the Win7 drivers. Then I went into device manager and manually updated the driver by pointing Windows the Intel directory. After hooking it up to a 1080p TV the screen was scaled/distorted. After going into the Intel software and moving the scaling sliders down and back up the screen immediately looked perfect and has been ever since.

The device manager now properly shows 8.15.10.1986 10/30/2009.

No need to live with it.
US keyboards are readily available on epay for around US$ 20.
That way you have the original unused to put back on if you at some point should decide to sell it.

Did anybody check their charging time? It took a total time of 4 hours to recharge from 5% to full capacity. With the device powered off! The 30W power supply seems to be a little bit underpowered for a 5600mAh battery, doesn't it?

Otherwise I am quite happy with it, lasts all day reading or browsing the web with WLAN on. ;)

    Cheers & merry christmas

I think I will pick it up. It has the size, specs, features I want and it's on sale. I know there will be better things coming out at CES, but those will probably be out in June/July timeframe and probably longer for Canada.

Do you just remove the keyboard or the "nubs" underneath the keyboard as well? I'm not exactly sure how laptop keyboards work.

Because of the split left shift key (for where the backslash key is), even if I get an US keyboard and install it, won't there be an existing "nub" for the existing backslash key? Therefore, if I hit the left shift key, I might be hitting the nub for the old backslash key?

Have I missed the point? lol... I guess more reading in the Timeline Tweaks thread is in order.

I'm having the same problem with my Acer Aspire 1410. It's the single core Celeron 743 processor, and when I connect to my 50" Panasonic plasma via HDMI, I get the flashing horizontal lines. Let me know if you end up solving your problem. Thanks.

What CPU usage are you guys getting running things like Youtube HD with the SU7300? Mine's up around 80% or so, with a few programs like AIM running in the background. It seems a tad high to me, because the CPU goes back to about 10% after going to another web page. I've got Intels latest drivers as well.

I was planning on buying an 1810T at the end of this month, but the number of problems people are having with the Timeline series is making me reconsider. Fan issues, screen flickering, backlight bleeding, etc.

Now I don't know what to do. The Asus UL20A would've been a good alternative but Asus stupidly left HDMI out.

Nothing is problem free. The only thing you can do is look at it objectively. If it fits your needs and the price is acceptable knowing the flaws, buy it. If it's any consolation, my recently purchased 1810T with an assembled date of nov/09 does not seem to have any of the issues you're worried about. My only complaint is that it gets much, much warmer than to my UL30VT.

I heard the Acer Aspire 1410 with SU2300 processor isn't strong enough to edit with Adobe Premiere. Is that true?

Ok this is going to sound strange but i really do appreciate any help....

I have a new Acer 1810TZ and the ESC key seems not to be as responsive as the other keys so you don't get the clicky sound as with the other keyboard keys. I pushed the key down a few times with a bit of force and it made like a different clicking (louder) sound and it not doing it anymore. The key is still the same. I tried it with a few other keys by pushing down with pressure and it made the same sounds but now does not. Thekey still seems to work (esc) but is not responsive its like there is nothing underneath.

What is likely to have caused this and am I likely to have damaged the keyboard by pushing down on it with pressure.

Any help very much appreciated ~

The keyboards are a complete unit, no "nubs". :) I was planning on replacing ours too. Cheap and easy. I believe there's links here to pages that show how to remove the keyboard.

Just to give you another data point, we've had no issues with ours. Only thing that took me a while to figure out was when I plugged in the 24" Dell LCD via HDMI and it was all washed out. After 20 minutes of screwing around I finally figured out it was just the gamma slider set too high.

I picked up the 1810T-9868 (Olympic Edition) today from Memory Express for 589.99 at @ 8am this morning. They only had 2 left. :D

Can't wait to start playing with it.

I am wondering if the as1810T SU9400 models will make it to the States. I like the idea of the silver but of course I am more interested in the CPU. While I know 100 MHz is no major speed jump it would still be welcome.....

    Hi everyone!
What about fan's quietness of 1810TZ? Is it quiet enough to use at night in complete silence? Does the fan run continuously or just from time to time depending on system load?

Perhaps one of the many Canadian vendors would ship to the US.
You will just need to install a US keyboard.

BTW, I too was excited about the SU9400 until I checked the
Passmark Performance scores. (which are not always trustworthy)
    SU7300 = 1013
    SU4100 = 972
    SU9400 = 944
    SU2300 = 904
Hope some informed folks will comment!

I've been using my new 18110TZ for a week now
and did not noticed any fan noise, at all.
I can tell its running only by holding the machine up towards my ear.
Some other users have reported loud fan noise.
    So it does vary greatly.

Read through the 1810tray thread for a fix,
if you are unlucky to get a noisy one.

I haven't bought yet, just going to buy diamond black TZ till end of 2009. What is manufacture date of your TZ? What color of yours? Does it have bluetooth? Is the cpu SU4100?
TZ that I am going to buy is already equipped with Intel WiMAX wireless module.

I wouldn't depend on the Passmark score. There are alot of vista system scores mixed in with the Windows7 Scores. The SU9400 has to score higher than the SU7300 in the same system everything else being equal. With the Su7300's running 599 I could see going to 649 for the SU9400 and 400GB drive over the 320GB but not much more than that.

Also remember the SU7300 scores are probably being poluted by Asus ULxxVT's overclocked to 1.73 GHz..........

So, just when Im ready to buy a 1810t/tz b/c of the ul20a's lack of hdmi/bluetooth, they're all gone, atleast in the United States. One sight listed it as discontinued. Any ideas on when I will be able to purchase one, or where I can get one now?

For those who already have the olympic edition (which the only place it seems to be available is amazon, and thats a preorder with no release date), is the lid aluminum like the macs, or is it glossy, or other?

    Thanks.

I bought a 1800TZ (Scandinavian model), SU4100, 3GB RAM just before Christmas. In general I am very impressed by the PC, faster than I had expected, reasonably quiet fan and disk, and a good keyboard.

However, I was a bit disappointed when I found out that it was delivered with the new low-cost Intel 1000 b/g/n single frequency (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi module instead of the 5100 a/b/g/n dual frequency module. I have a dual frequency router and want to keep the N protocol at 5 GHz. Checking back, the store's spec was b/g/n and not a/b/g/n so I cannot really make a complaint.

Does anyone know whether all 1810s have dual-band Wi-Fi antennas so I can just change to the Intel 5100 module, or will that also require a major effort to change antennas? Is the 1810TZ supplied with the Intel 1000 b/g/n in all markets?

    Passmark's database is unreliable because:
    1. people submit results of benchmarks ran at wrong clock speeds and profiles.
    2. 64 bit gives different scores than 32 bit.
    3. Vista and XP give different scores than Windows 7.

    SU2300 < SU4100 < SU7300 < SU9400 < SU9600

    Agree with you, of course.
Even if the Passmarks were somewhat accurate,
true computer performance is a multi-faceted phenomena.

But we do need some guidelines beyond the model numbers assigned by Intel.
Why pay more if we cannot be sure that an SU9400 is faster than an SU7300?
Or even an SU2700, is Passmark good enough for that?

Given two identical 11.6" Win7 Acers, one with an SU3500, the other with an SU7300,
I think most users could not identify which CPU was faster. (except for some online video)

I also think most users could not identify DDR2 or DDR3, 2GB or 4GB, 667 or 800 ram,
5400 or 7200 rpm hard drive, G or N wireless, etc.
All present measurable, but just barely discernible improvements under common usage.

Well you can be certain SU9400 is faster than SU7300. It's the same CPU clocked at 1.4Ghz (SU9400) or 1.3GHz (SU7300).

It's another question whether most users will notice anything. And I agree with you, they won't.

Going to start on two mods for my Acer/Gateway laptops.

    1. Multitouch panel. Anyone know where I can find a multitouch panel that will fit the Acer 1410/1810s 11.6" screen? All I can find are the ones that fit the 10.1" netbooks.

    2. Trackpad mod. Where can I find a 4.7cm by 6.8cm LCD panel that will fit in the trackpad area for a secondary lcd in that space (I plan on rerouting the VGA out.)

    Hello,
Since Christmas i have an Acer 1810TZ received as a gift. I’m very pleased with the notebook I have the SU4100 with 160GB and 1 module of 2GB at 400mhz PC2-6400 DDR2-SDRAM SO-DIMM. As you can see I have the European version therefore the person paid allot of bucks for less specs then other regions in the world.

So getting to the point I’m a person that is allot on the move therefore battery time of 8 hours was a must for me. I also have like 20tabs open at browser just like now browser don’t why but like to have things open and I also listening to music and play some poker at several tables at a time. Besides that read some eBooks, words and PowerPoint also active of course mkv playback. All these thing cause my memory gauge be at least 60% all the time on Vista 7 64x.

So I’ve been looking to find some new internal memories and I just get confused of the possibilities of my version. I ran HWinfo and it says my notebook can handle DDR3 until 533.3 x 2 makes it 1066Mhz memory. Does this mean it also supports 204 pin SO-DIMM modules stated at 1066MHz with DDR3?

Okay these are the Kingston Hyper X modules I find around the web in my local stores and getting some modules tomorrow, only don’t know what DDR Mhz and what pin to get for this 1810tz, and I know these are likely to be for gaming but I do have allot going on my screen:

    KHX5300S2LLK2/4G 4GB 667MHz Low-Latency DDR2 CL4 (Kit of 2 - 2GB) 4-4-4-12 1.8v (200 pin)

    KHX6400S2LLK2/4G 4GB 800MHz Low-Latency DDR2 CL5 (Kit of 2 - 2GB) 5-5-5-18 1.8v (200 pin)

    KHX8500S3ULK2/4G 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 CL5 (Kit of 2 -2GB) 5-5-5-18 1.5v (204 pin)

Sorry for the long post but can someone explain what is the best option for me at this point, I also think people within my region that have these specs also will be very pleased.

    Thanks in advance, :)

The chipset supports the DDR3 but your socket is 200 pin only so DDR2 is your only choice. for general use cas5 800 MHz memory is faster than cas4 667 MHz. The 800 MHz HyperX Cas4 is the fastest.

Thanks TANWare makes it all clear to me, unfortunately they don't sell the HyperX 800mhz with cas4 at my local stores. The price of these are around €140,- will i really feel the speed of cas4 cause I can still order it only don't expect it to arrive before my vacation ends.

Otherwise I think i will go for this is one is around €90,-

    KHX6400S2LLK2/4G 4GB 800MHz Low-Latency DDR2 CL5 (Kit of 2 - 2GB) 5-5-5-18 1.8v (200 pin)

my timing with the single channel at the moment with 400MHz is 6-6-6-18

I don't think I've ever owned a laptop that didn't drop a couple percent per day regardless of use. I usually top it off every night when I've used it much during the day in any case, so the "issue" doesn't really affect me at all.

    Thanks.

I just brought a Acer Aspire 1810TZ-414G50N Timeline Olympic Edition and my configuration is different from the one described it the quote below.
I have Bluetooth and my Wi-Fi is b/g/n only - without "a". The OS is 64bit Win7 Home Premium.

After reading this thread here I came to the conclusion that it would be very nice if someone (I prefer Acer officialy, but anyway) compiles a table with all possible models (with a column "world region where available") and their specs - to avoid confusion.

It seems that all 1810 have:
    SU-type CPU • DDR2 memory • Wi-Fi • HDD • kein optisches Laufwerk • kein ExpressCard/PCMCIA • Intel GMA 4500HD (IGP) • 3x USB 2.0 / Gb LAN • HDMI • 5in1 Card Reader (SD / MMC / MS / MS Pro / xD) • Webcam • 29cm (11.6") WXGA glare LED TFT (1366x768) • Li-Ionen-Akku (6 Zellen, 5600 mAh) mit bis zu 8 Stunden Akkulaufzeit je nach Art der Anwendung • 1.40kg

and then the differences are in:
    -memory size: 2GB, 4GB, others?
-HDD size (and maybe type - SSD anyone?) and specs: 320GB, 500GB, others? (and specs?)
-CPU: Celeron SU?? (no VT for Win7 WXP mode), Pentium SU4100 (no VT for Win7 WXP mode), Core2 Duo SU7300 (supports VT for Win7 WXP mode), others? (Core2 Solo?)
-OS: WinXP Home 32-bit, Win7 Home Premium 64-bit, others?
    -Wi-Fi: b/g/n, a/b/g/n, others? (b/g?) (and type - Intel/Broadcom/etc.?)
-Bluetooth: yes or no (and type?)
-3G UMTS/HSDPA/GPRS: yes or no (the HUAWEII card)

I can't address the processor differences, but I replaced my factory 667 ghz memory with 800 Ghz memory and not only does the system have 20% benchmark improvements I also notice that everything is much faster.

Since Ram is also used by the Intel graphics processor, it has a noticeable effect on the entire system.

I would strongly reccommend the 800 Ghz Ram.

I also got a very sweet deal on the Ram. Bought the 4mb 800 Ghz Ram thru Amazon for $85 - Got a Mfg $30 rebate; $10 rebate from Wired magazine; sold the factory 2mg for $25; and American Express rewards will be an additional $.85 = Under $20 for 4 MB 800 Ghz Ram :D :D :D

Guys is your SU2300 in 1410 always on 1.2GHz? You can check with CPU-Z.

According to Intel it has Speedstep but I think that's wrong.

Just came home and picked up my Kingston HyperX DDR2 (2x2) 4GB with 800mhz stating at 5-5-5-18 let you all know how the performances are after install. Think only the screws has to come of I guess :D

Awesome just placed these modules it was a breeze to install. I run this gadget on wondows 7 that shows my cpu and ram all the time, before installing ram was stated 60% at all times and peaking higher until some apps don't react anymore lol. Now it's stable at 30% of used ram, now it's time for upgrading my bios are the new intel bios stable for x64 and windows 7?

UPDATE: I received my 46" HDTV yesterday, and I have the 1410/SU2300 hooked up via HDMI at 1920x1080.

The screen is flicker free, no anomalies I can detect. One gripe I have is the screen extends about an inch all around, which means the taskbar is cutoff. The same is true for my 1810T. I'm not sure if this an Acer thing, or my samsung LED TV has some bleedover that is covering some hidden screen real estate.

On the other hand, the resolutions is nice and crisp. I do scale down t 1600x900 whenever I want to see all my icons.

You've got overscan going on. Check the intel graphics config stuff to see if you can reduce it. We are outputting 1080P via HDMI from our 1810T to a Dell ST2410 with no issues.

That happened to me the first time and found there was an option in my LG tv to select "just scan" instead of 16:9 or 4:3 or zoom, etc..

That adjusted the screen exactly. (Taskbar appeared completely).
I hope it helps for you.

Okay... i've been to optimistic about upgrading my ram i already get like 4 BSOD in a hour, does this has to do with my rams and currently standard bios acer gave me or would it be a faulty memory? also i discovered it does get hotter and if i start Windows media player and play a file BSOD again..

I'm at bios version V0.3115 still got the original firmware for intel graphics. I'm just wondering if by updating the bios the BSOD will stop and if my warranty won't be void as they say on their website, kinda awkward.

    Thanks in advance
