Anyone here seen a 1420p or 1820p yet? That is the only thing I regret in purchasing my 1410. I would love to have a tablet. Just curious how everyone else is looking at the coming tablet versions of the 1410 and 1810 laptops. With any luck we will get more information via CES 2010. I was hoping the Asus T91 would have been a better computer, but the 1420p with the su2300 sure looks like a barn burner. It would sure be nice to see people buy a decent computer rather than selling thousands of kindles. One that you can use for MS OneNote, MS Office Live, Google Docs, and digital books. Not to metion the options available via WMP12 and W7MC. You could watch recorded TV, Blu-ray, streaming HD, all on a tablet. I would guess that computer would canabalize a ton of the laptop computer industry. But, hey, innovate or die! Basically a Lenovo Thinkpad x200 at 1/3 price! Every college student, high school student, and teacher in the US should have one. For $500 it might be a possibility because the x200's $1500 price tag will never create a wave. I have to tell you that I find it kinda funny the complaining that people do about the keyboard flex or the battery life. Honestly, look at what you are getting for the price. The 1410 with the su2300 kicks the Sony my friend payed $1300 for a few months ago. It will be fun to watch Asus, HP, and Lenovo scramble to compete while Sony and Apple die. (or get re-religated to a small niche market) And Dell, honestly what are they thinking right now. The best idea they have had in months is the Inspirion Zino and it isn't that innovative. Isn't capitalism fun!

Well I've did some testing on about my second pin slot i've tested the new memory kits from Kingston and the original that came with my acer 1810tz. They all had BSOD when a movie started in wm12 or just browsing in general.
Think i'm stuck with only 1 pin working correctly, do you guys think a bios upgrade will fix my 2nd pin? Cause I'm still at the standard 0.3115 and
Think I'm going to connect Acer tomorrow cause I'm feeling kind of shorten out with the high price in Europe low specs and now only 1 pin SODIMM working correctly. -
Sorry Dexterity, I thought Acer was being innovative with their release of products in the UK and Europe but it seems like they are treating you more like labratory test animals. Or maybe you are just more open minded and forgiving then us US Citizens (I won't say Americans for fear of offending my South and Central American friends.) Or maybe it is just an Acer thing. They did the same thing with the nettops. I was born in Australia also and my take from my reading is that they seem to be treated similarly. Cheers!

I went into the Samsung screen config, and there was an option for "screen fit". That fixed it-- Now it's flawless at 1920x1080!
Thanks! -
I was disappointed enough to go ahead and purchase an 1810TZ.
It doesn't feel like an 1810. Its thicker and heavier.
And the hinge seemed poorly designed, especially for my use.
I don't know... maybe I'll pick one up in a few months
when an SU9400 model with 3G becomes available.
No need to repeat what can be found in this terrific
1820PTZ Evaluation with detailed photos and videos.
Discussion should probably follow at this active

Just got my 1410 and am REALLY interested in a backlit keyboard too!!!!

I have the 1810tz running XP. When pairing with Jabra BT620s stereo headphones over bluetooth I get a message saying to the effect that the phones don't support content protection. As a result, I don't get hi-fi stereo headphones support and can only get the low-fi headset functionality. Is anyone else experiencing this and what's your solution in getting hi-fi stereo? I'm using the latest Widcom driver from Broadcom.
FWIW if I use a bluetooth USB dongle based on the Toshiba chip I don't get this content protection error. -
Looks like the power's supplied by the smaller ribbon cable on the left in this pic. I've never popped open my 1810 so i'm not certain a connection exists. Might be worth checking out...Attached Files:

So today i called Acer support in Europe not that technical help i needed from a call center but the lady on the phone already wanted to make an appointment to pickup my notebook, therefore i made the choice not to do so and told her I will update my BIOS to the latest Acer released on their website.
Conclusion my wm12 just don't give me the BSOD anymore what i supposed to had with the older BIOS. It's still early to decide if it works correctly but at least I can watch a movie or listing to music.
Does anyone have a good temperature tool cause with these ram modules i do feel the heat rising with an average around 43C ?
Thanks -
just in case anybody is still looking at sleeves, i got to try two out this weekend. i was given the targus 12" sleeve for my 1410 here as a gift and my brother got the incase 10.2 inch sleeve for his acer aspire one here
my 1410 fits in both, the incase is a tight fit, but definitely not a struggle to get it in and zip it shut, its just very snug all the way around. the targus is fitted pretty close lengthwise(the longest part of the computer) but the bag is about an inch bigger widthwise(or is that depth? i think you know what i mean) which means it has about an inch to slide back and forth. the targus has a pocket which fits the adapter and probably another small item or two. the fact that the computer slides a little in the targus bothers me a little, but since it is snug length wise, and only slides in one direction, and since it has a nice pocket that the incase doesnt, i'm going to be using the targus 12 inch sleeve
if you dont need a pocket id go for the incase -
The 6250s if/when they come out in generic versions would be an interesting option too.
I get excellent reception with whatever they have installed into the LCD portion is good for on both bands. I have a 1410 that came with the 1000 wifi, so I'm sure all the others have it. Probably cheaper to standardize the chassis than try to save on something obscure like wifi pigtails.
I later went to the trouble to wire a third antenna since I was adding a broadcom 2046 BT module (2.1) and SSD (don't ask) as well as for the pure nerd factor. There is a great spot for one of those panel pigtails above the ribbon cable for the SD card reader, I coiled the slack in the empty full minicard section.
The palm rest is not even metal backed right above it, its almost ideal too given under typical use the LCD will be open you have a handy third antenna that is ~90 degrees off the other two for maximum diversity.
If anyone cares I can upload some of the pictures I took while doing this in case I had any trouble during reassembly. -

Looks like I got one of the last 1410/2300's in red from B&H, they list it as discontinued
I am glad to see that mine did have 800mhz ram though, it'll do till i can get 4gigs -
Also want to say that I did a "clean" install of Win7 from a "real disk" and found that the 3rd or driver disk of the recovery set is not like the Gateway I had............so I couldn't find the software(drivers were not the problem) to reinstall for the webcam(crystal eye). So I tried the one for my old GW Lt31 from here http://support.gateway.com/support/... Webcam Application v1.7.32.421&uid=255584102
and all is good again
I really liked the way the Gateway disks were laid out, 2 disks for the restore & 1 just for drivers............oh well -
After a long period of doubt, I finally bought my 1810TZ and it just arrived at my door. I'm really shocked of the amount of bloatware Acer delivers with this product. Is there a list of 'save to remove'-software, so I don't uninstall some essentials?

The Acer website lists the Aspire Timeline 1810T-8679 as having part# LX.SA102.001 and says it comes with a blue chassis. I see people in the US were able to buy it in December as I've read the reviews on Amazon but now I can't seem to find one to purchase anywhere.
What's weird is there are a few websites that say they have the 1810T-8679 but they list it with part# LX.SA202.006 which the acer site says is for the 1810T-8638 model which is black.
Can anyone confirm that the 1810T-8679 is in fact the one with the blue chassis and has part# LX.SA102.001? I'd also like to know if anyone has information on availability of one of these models online so I can purchase one. -
Hey I just received my AS1810T-8968. It seems like the perfect size. I remember seeing something about charging your battery fully before use, and then discharging it completely or something like that. Do you know what it is, or where i can find information about this method?

Has anyone thought about using Broadcom Hardware Decoder BCM970012 - PCIe Mini Card to do HW acceleration of 1080p video content? Is it possible at all?
I just recently bought Aspire 1410 with SU3500 single core CPU and playing some 1080p content is rather painful if not impossible at all. -

Bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115650 on a bit of a whim for 250, seemed like a great deal. Didn't really know where to post a question about it and this seemed like the right thread. Anyway I was wondering how this processor compares to the various ones available in the 1410 (su2300, su3700 vs Atom Z520)
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Guess that explains the price. Didnt even think it was possible for the processor to be a step backwards from my year old 8.9 inch. Glad its not to late to cancel the order.
thanks for the reply -
Accord to this website ---> http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
The Z520 is 250 points and the SU7300 is 1002 points
For reference the N270 is 304 points.
the Su7300 has 6 times the amount of L2 cache if my memory serves me right. And also the Core 2 architecture is much better than the atom architecture. I think atom was in-order execution and Core 2 was out of order. I think out of order was something like twice as fast as in-order clock per clock.
Furthermore the GMA 4500 is much faster than the GMA 500. (and upon looking at the numbers the difference is ever further than i anticipated, 1326 vs 127. The GMA 950 found in most netbooks sits at around 411. And if memory serves again, 9400m was aroudn 3000 - 4000-ish.) According to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-4500MHD-GMA-X4500MHD.9883.0.html
Hmm then there are the other things like less ram, worst wireless, no bluetooth, less harddrive space, slower LAN, weaker battery.
(Beware everything i just said is potentially incorrect) -
In summary the Passmark CPU Mark for the su2300 is 930 the atom z520 is 250 and the atom n270 is 304. Thanks for the link and help.
-
But still the Z520 is enough for basic netbook use. That's what the 751 is meant for. It will choke on Youtube HD and HQ though.
1410 with SU2300 is sometimes selling for $ 349,- so that's the better deal.

For anyone with a SU2300 in their notebook: this might be a valuable tip on how to increase battery life by more than an hour:

So I am debating on getting the 1810T for 592. I wanted the TZ but doesn't seem to be available much. The bigger question though is whether or not Acer is going to come out with something in the 11.6 form soon that I should wait for. Thanks for any help.
-
Their might be a new 1810 announced on CES with the new CPUs, but it will be a lot more expensive.
-
Hello.
Could someone please tell me, how I can find out, if my Acer 1410-741 has a working UMTS slot? I inserted a SIM card and it slipped deep inside under the mainboard. I expected that it clicks into place. -
-
I own the exact computer you just purchased; same color and everything. I just bought the 1410 with dual-core SU2300 to replace it & gave the 751 to my mom.
There is no comparing the two; the SU2300 is light years faster than the atom. For very basic use; light word processing, looking at one or two websites at a time (any more than 3 or so tabs open & performance goes downhill fast) the 751 is OK, but barely.
If it still comes preloaded with Vista, you can forget it. The computer is all but unuseable with Vista. Put XP or 7 on it.
Better yet, if you can cancel the order as you suggested, do that and spend an extra $100 or $150 for the 1410 with SU2300 - if you can find it. Try Fry's and Amazon.
Good luck! -
lol why?
He has a mostly non conductive thing floating around somewhere. I'm sure the computer isnt "fried" just pop off the bottom access panel and i'm sure you'll see it. -

Oh by the way, On Acer's Official website, the battery is said to be 5600mAh, but upon looking at the battery itself, it says 5800 mAh. I just found that strange. -
I need help. After installing my SSD drive, I started having issue with high temperatures (55 idling... going above 70, 73 peak under heavy load) causing my notebook to just shutdown. I used 1810tray.20 to monitor the temperature as I ran the windows rating test and it shuts down at 73 degrees every time. I try to listen for the fan, but I hear nothing even at very high setting. Do I have a dead fan on my hand here?
//Update: removed the keyboard. I could visibly see the fan not running. UGHHHH -
Have you monitored to see what's eating your CPU? (ctrl-alt-del, taskmanager)
Are you running BatteryBar? -
Hey guys, after reading this thread I decided to buy an 1810tz. Some of you already got their 1810tz olympic edition. I wanted to know whether it's got an aluminium body or lid or none of the two.
Thanks -
Right?
