Send it back if you're not happy and Newegg has excellant customer service.
I figure if you shell out your hard earned money, you better be 100% satisfied with the purchase. I've sent back items if they even have a small smudge.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've heard stories about Newegg "holding" latops for 1-2 months before issuing an exchange. (Probably sending it back to the manufacturer for inspection.) That worries me a little. I need it soon, as I wanted to start using it heavily next week.
I might just try and deal with it. I'll only be using the display 6 hours or so a week. Any other time it will be connected to my external monitor. -
I am really confuse.

They even said guarantee that UM09A75 will work in 1410/1810. -
yeah...I agree; when I first started searching for the next best bang ultra-portable, I noticed that there aren't very many 11.6" screens.
Next, I noticed in this size range you don't see a flood of Intel dual cores paired w/graphics to push HD content to an ext. big screen.
When I stuck with ultraport form factor, then started to factor in things like HDMI, BT [i like backing my cell w/out plugs; yes it does take a tad longer, but I can do other things at the same time and stereo output to BT headsets is very cool as well], that upped the cost to beyond the $500 threshold.
I also like the nearly unobstructed access to the chassis which will allow integration of a wwan card of my choice, when I'm ready.
Toshiba, HP, Lenovo and Dell were close, but they all managed to omit one of the above desired items.
OTOH, upon close scrutiny, the 1810T-8638 looks ready to hold its own against many big names w/same processor/ram/win7 combo, even in their more familiar 13, 14, or 15" form factor. Not to mention for a few bucks more or even less in some cases.
I know...I never thought I'd go to $600+ for an ultraportable. -
Just thought I'd post this, even though it's off topic model, as they share similar specs. Seems likes a good deal.

Agreed. I love the portability of my lil' 1410. Been waiting on my neoprene case from ebay for almost 2 weeks now..of course, it is shipping from Asia
-
FYI: I think most 10.1" neoprene cases will fit. I found one at Target for ~$12.
-
Yes, so I've heard. I was able to find one that supposidly fits like a glove, with a very basic black outside with no marking, and funky colored inside for about $13 shipped on ebay.
-
I really like this case:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002Z9XQPU/ref=oss_product
It doesn't "fit like a glove" but the memory foam and little corner straps hold it nicely, and the outer pocket is good for the power cable, etc. I am able to slide my sony ebook reader in there too and zip it, but barely. -

if you don't mind carrying an extra 1.5 lbs, no BT, 2 hrs less run time and the slightly larger display will consume a little more power on top of all that- [maybe neglible].
But you do get a dvd r-w, 1066mhz ram & Lenovo support.
For under $500 shipped it is a good deal, but it didn't include what I wanted. -
That looks like a nice little case. I wouldn't mind a handle and front pocket. Too bad they don't have it in black right now (I don't like the white one). This one looks decent too: http://www.amazon.com/CaseCrown-Protective-Shoulder-11-6-inch-Netbook/dp/B00286O398/ref=pd_cp_e_3
I'm generally happy with the neoprene sleeve because I tend to take just the laptop in the sleeve (and shove a pair of ear buds in the sleeve or my coat pocket) OR I toss everything in a messenger bag in which case the sleeve is nice. BUT I wouldn't mind a small case like you have for those times I just want the laptop, ear buds and power supply and don't feel like taking the messenger bag. -
When I use wmp/wmc to play my mp3's, cpu goes to around %60. I have shark codecs installed. When playing my 720p videos on wmp/wmc the cpu stays around the same %70. Does everyone prefer wmp for mp3 playback? Is this right playing my mp3's even with media player minimized without visualizer, it should take same cpu as playing 720p movies? I have 1410-su2300cpu
-
Just ordered a bluetooth module from Ebay. Since I'm going to be taking my 1410 apart to install it, I would like to correct my only gripe about this great little notebook - the keyboard. Is there any other model keyboard that will fit in the 1410? Don't like the flat keys and would prefer raised chicklet keys with more responsive action. Any thoughts?

I use the default media play with win7 home premium 64bit and I get cpu usage under 40% with 1080p. This is out of the box with the default acer system with all the crap uninstalled.
My little benchmark, http://pkmvancouver.posterous.com/1080p-h264-performance at the time of this little review I had 32bit ultimate installed but I get same results with 64bit Home Premium.
EDIT: and mp3's via itunes 64bit I get about 15% cpu usage. just tested. -
+1 for ~15% with music, usually less but it spikes to ~15.
WMP12 is very good for a out of the box player, even without shark007 codecs (which are good too) it can do 1080P mp4's. Unless you have some ridiculous filters or bit-rates on those mp3's it shouldn't be that high.
I imagine a high bit rate, poorly encoded 720P video could give high cpu use though (lookin at you Adobe). -
Thought some of us discussed this about a week ago...
or perhaps it was in a different thread.
Quite sure the UM09A75 does not fit the 1410/1810 series.
It does fit Acer's previous 11.6" series, the a751h.
These two model series are different in design.
The UM09E36 fits the 1410 and 1810.
Solve your dilemma... buy a UM09A75 and let us know
if the vendor listed it correctly.
-
Crud. I've confirmed my 1410 has the battery drain issue. I shut it down at 60 something % the other day. Booted it today and it's at 17%. Very Annoying. I'd turned off network boot in bios too. I can't believe what Acer said about a 'software based power button' when they refused to fix someone elses' for this problem.
What's the point of a portable notebook if it won't hold a charge?! GRR -
My 1410 is very quiet, even plugged in. Sure.. I can hear the fan if I concentrate on it, or put my ear on the machine... I've noticed that people who have gotten newer models have had more problems than mine with the manufacturer date of Sept 9, 2009.

:GEEK: Here's a REALLY GOOD question that I have never seen answered anywhere. I'm looking for a way to transfer the Acer Recovery CDs/DVDs to boot/install from a usb flash drive. I noticed that ALL the bootsect files have been removed from their recovery discs unlike the retail Vista/Win7 install discs. Now I wonder if the usb flash needs to be in NTFS filesystem or should FAT32 also work fine?
-
Have you looked here? http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=11476
-
ohiomoto I've been studying that thread, for the past 6months off and on, for a way to restore the hidden acer recovery partition on an Aspire 5050 but that thread doesn't seem to have any instructions on how to boot/install the recovery CDs/DVDs from a usb flash drive.
-
Bronsky nope because the Recovery discs are not the retail Vista/Win7 they don't have the bootsect file anywhere on the 3 recovery discs lol
-
You have to make the USB stick bootable with the HP Format Utility tool. Search for 'bootable usb' on google, there are a lot of tutorials deccribing the usage of the HP tool. This tool is required to get the bootsect files on your usb stick. After running that tool, you easily copy the contents of the CD to your USB and that's it.
And it worked really well for me, i installed Win7 on my 1810T this way. -
Just a quick heads up here, guys. Didn't see this covered earlier, my apologies if this is a repost:
New Intel HD/4-series GMA drivers are up for Win 7 64-bit and Vista 64-bit. Installed these last night on my 1810T & Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit, no noticable issues or quirks.
Driver is version 15.17.1.64.2086 (8.15.10.2086) for those keeping track.
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2991&DwnldID=18804&lang=eng -
Thanks! I'll try out the new driver and see if it helps the flicker issue...
-
bronsky I'm attempting to try it. I'm now curious if the bootsect program can restore access to the hidden hard drive recovery partition for an Acer Aspire 5050 stock Vista HP. For that 5050 the recovery partition wasn't touched but boot access to it was lost when I deleted and remade the C: drive partition using a Win2K setup CD.
-
Let me know how it shakes out. I've ordered a recovery disk from Acer and, although I do have an external CD, would prefer to have the recovery program on a bootable USB drive so I don't have to take the CD with me travelling.
-
no luck I couldn't get the bootsect program to make neither my SD card or usb flash drive to boot. On the flash drive it just prompts me "disk error press any key to restart" and on the SD card I get no prompt just a blinking cursor then my hard drive boots up. I'll try them again with NTFS filesystem see if that makes a diff.
-
I was able to cut down my CPU utilization by half when using WMP by going inyo WMP options/performance and enabling acceleration. Seems like this should be enabled at default. I also took off smoothing which makes picture look better to me.
-
I'm getting strange conflicting results. I formatted both drives to NTFS with 512Byte allocation units and ran the bootsect /NT60 driveletter: . The Corsair usb flash I only put config.sys, kernel.sys, himem.exe, command.com and bootmgr on it and the SD Card I put all the recovery discs on it. When attempting to boot selecting the SD card showed a blank screen for a second and proceeded to hard drive boot up but selecting the Corsair Flash actually attempted to load and give me a windows setup error stating it could not find \boot\BCD which makes sense since I did not put any setup files on the corsair. Perhaps the bootmgr file in the acer recovery discs is different from the bootmgr file on the windows retail discs.

I tried installing the chipset driver labled WinVista7_64_15171- as linked to here in previous page. I even tried right clicking on it to run as admin but it says I don't have permission to put it on my computer and then compatibility manager comes up and asks if I should download with recommended settings. Should I click that? Is this updating my display adapter/mobile intel 4 series express chipset as shown in my device manager? My current driver is 8.15.10. dated 7/28/2009. I went to acer website and I see there is a version 9 which tells me that the acer update utility I ran is useless because it didn't detect the 9 version. Unless I'm confusing this with VGA driver? If so, how can I find my current chipset driver from device manager?
-
just got the acer recovery program to work on the Corsair Flash Voyager with NTFS file system and using the bootsect /NT60 driveletter: command. I copied all 3 recovery discs to the 8GB Flash Voyager (System CD, Recovery DVD1, Recovery DVD2) for me it's about 6.65GB total
My speculation is there might be something up with detecting memory cards through built in card readers vs a usb card reader. I'm using the built in card reader.
Now I'm gonna test if the bootmgr file from a Win7 RC 32bit disc will work and then I'm gonna retest running this recovery program from the corsair with a FAT32 file system -
works with both bootmgr files, only difference between my corsair and my sd card is that I've been playing with the makebootfat program and also used bootmyiso.exe on the corsair and didn't use those programs on the sd card. Now to try setting the corsair back to fat32 and see what happens.
Another thing to note I found the corsair load speed was the same as a 1-4X DVD. I havn't tested an install yet just a successful load of the Acer eRecovery Management Tool to do a full or partial system recovery. -
first off the chipset driver is not the video driver. The chipset driver (INF installer) is this "INF Update Utility Intel 5 4 3 900 Series Chipsets v9.1.1.1025 Win2K & up infinst911autol.exe" and is dated December 2009 I think the 21st but can't remember which day. You can find it on the intel website in the downloads. I think there's one version number for 64bit and a different version number for 32bit. I bet installing the 32bit on the 64bit vista/win7 will make a big hinderence in performance and compatible with other 64bit device drivers.
The other numbers you posted look like the video card drivers.
"Intel GMA Driver v15.16.5.64.2021 64bit Win7Vista_64_15165"
"Intel GMA Driver v15.16.5.2021 32bit Win7Vista_15165"
and when you install them the start of the number with v15.16.x.x.x changes to 8.15.x.x but that's normal for these drivers. -
just got the Corsair Flash Voyager with FAT32 to boot the Acer Recovery strange that it didn't work the first time around. I did perform a quick format instead of full format so I'll try a full format just now but first more work on the SD card must get that to boot up too!
-
so I think the trick is to use the program BootMyISO.exe first (you don't have to let it do a full format if you already have the drive in FAT32 file system). Not sure if an empty NTFS will allow the exe to complete properly. Anyway after running that program on the desired usb flash/mem card, you can then format the drive maybe even just erase the files it copied. Then you can just copy over your Vista/Win7/Acer eRecovery discs onto your usb flash/mem card and it should boot up just fine.
It seems running that bootsect.exe /NT60 driveletter: made no difference to making the drive bootable. Anyway I got it to work on both my Corsair Flash Voyager and my A-DATA Class 10 SDHC card.
Next issue WTH is the AS1410 built-in card reader slower (way slower) than a Corsair Flash Voyager especially when I'm using a Class 10 SDHC card? -
BTW... those new Intel WinVista7_64_15171 graphics drivers seem to be working
perfectly on my 1810TZ. No display irregularities as with previous versions.
Be sure to uninstall your older drivers via the Control Panel.
And then reboot before installing the update.
Don't freak out when you see the generic 640 x 480, at first. -
another discovery, quick formatting the SDHC card with a FAT32 64KB allocation unit made the card freeze with a blinking cursor when I tried to boot with it.
-
Unfortunately it didn't fix the slight flicker on the 4 lowest brightness levels
actually... make that the 5 lowest, now, at least on battery. -
:GEEK: that program is not necessary. I don't like using auto configurators because I like to have control and mod abilities for when I need unique/altered configs or require slightly different processing. Like the makebootfat program can make a usb flash drive compatible with all 3 USB types (USB-FDD, USB-ZIP, USB-HDD) simultaneously so it will always boot regardless of what usb types a system supports.
I used a program called BootMyISO.exe it sets up your usb to boot any ISO you want and comes with Memtest86 v4 ISO and FreeDOS. It boots with a menu to select which option to run FreeDOS prompt or Memtest86 and there's instructions for adding ISO menu items or to replace the ones already included. The program lets you chose if you want to format the flash drive or not. It only lets you format to FAT32 and I assume it can install without formatting on any FAT. I havn't tried exFAT with it yet and I do know it makes an error if you try to install it on an NTFS file system. I tried both erasing the BootMyISO files and copying over the Acer Recovery discs as well as tried re-formatting with windows to remove the BootMyISO files and then copying over the Acer Recovery discs. Both of those booted fine.
So to summarize I succesfully get both the SD card and the Corsair Flash Voyager usb drive to boot. The Acer eRecovery Management Tool boots up on FAT32 and NTFS file systems but it can only start if the FAT32 is using an allocation unit size of 32KB (32768 Bytes) or less and for NTFS an allocation unit size of 4KB (4096 Bytes) or less. So far I cannot get either devices to boot on an exFAT file system.
I can't say for sure if the " bootsect.exe /NT60 driveletter:" command (program found on retail Vista/Win7 install discs) made any benefit as initially it made no difference but after running the program " BootMyISO.exe" and then rerunning the bootsect.exe program/command it has not prevented my 2 storage devices from booting.
I tested out load speeds using different size allocation units on each file system. NTFS was the slowest and the larger the allocation unit size the faster the Acer Recovery program loads. 32KB FAT32 loaded almost exactlly 5 seconds faster than 4KB NTFS on the Corsair Flash Voyager. The Corsair Flash Voyager also loads 5 seconds faster than my Class 10 A-DATA SDHC card in this Netbook's built-in card reader and 10 seconds faster than the same SDHC card in a Lexar USB 2.0 Multi-Card Reader P/N# RW022 Rev.B. The Corsiar and the SDHC were using 32KB FAT32.
Now I'm double checking load times of FAT32 on the Corsair with smaller allocation unit sizes.
EDIT: smaller allocation units on FAT32 produced longer load times but not as big a difference as I expected. I saw maybe up to 3 seconds longer load difference when I tried 8KB and 4KB FAT32 allocation units. I know the 512Bytes allocation unit size was a great deal longer loading but I can't remember exact timing for that test.
and here's an interesting discovery I made trying to regain access to the hidden recovery partition on an Aspire 5050-5278 http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk/fo...re-access-to-acer-hidden-hard-drive-recovery/ -
Thanks yus9, I was able to update my vga driver by first uninstalling old driver first from control pannel. Should I also update chipset driver? What would be the reason for this? On Acer site current version is 9.1.0.1013 and apparently Intel's site has v9.1.1.1025 version. I don't know how to find my current version from my device manager though.
-
You really should be posting this stuff in the "Acer Hidden Recover" thread. It's just going to get lost in this thread. I'm sure someone looking in that thread will find it useful.
-
ohiomoto I have no idea how this belongs in the acer hidden recovery thread? This has nothing to do with booting the hard drive recovery partition. All I did was copy the recovery CDs/DVDs to a flash drive and boot that. It's more useful here because this is the method I'm going to use to install the stock Acer Vista setup on my new SSD. The discs do not run the hard drive recovery at all.
-
Sorry I just don't know.
-
This may have been asked, but I could not find it through the hundred or so pages I checked...
Just wondering, does anyone else have an issue when you move the mouse with one hand, and use the keyboard with another, the mouse will freeze? I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts while moving the mouse (something like ctrl+t to open a new tab while moving the cursor to enter a new url), and the mouse will freeze for 1-2 seconds and not respond at all. It's extremely annoying.
You can try to replicate this by moving the cursor constantly back and forth and hit any letter or number. Some keys don't cause this but it seems most do.
Is there a fix? -
Weird... today, checked-out an Acer Aspire One 752 here in Taipei.
White with an aluminum color palm rest, and an SU2300 processor.
It appears in Acer's netbook brochure, but not in their notebook brochure.
And no sightings yet of the i3 - i7 series. -
Now, is the Aspire One 752 going to complement the 1410 or replace it, since they are virtually the same?
I'm hoping that since its now being rebranded as a full "netbook", the pricing can also drop to "netbook" prices, such as $300 when the Nehalem 1830Ts come out?
I also hope the white color comes to the U.S!
