I bought it from this guy and he has instructions in his add. http://cgi.ebay.com/2-1-Bluetooth-M...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item27ad391776
Look at his last picture. Don't run the wire like that. It will be right under the right mouse key and can give you trouble. Keep it up closer to the main board.
-
Thanks again. That's the same seller I bought mine from. The auction for mine though didn't have that last picture. Good thing you tipped me on that!
-
Thanks Thundernet, those have the newer SU9400 and a bigger hard drive. They seem to be selling for like about $710 today. More than I want to spend, but the things I want are always a little more than I want to spend... I'm thinking I'll go with the $610 shipped 8638 model, unless someone here stops me...

Oh get this, I called Acer support to ask for advice/instructions on running the recovery discs off a usb flash and of course they don't support it.
The kicker was when I asked how I could submit/create a petition in request that Acer develop this feature/option, I'd likely be the first petitioning because it seemed no one's ever asked of such; they wouldn't even tell me how to make a petition or request that the option be looked into. They gave the impression they didn't want to let me even ask lol.
They also hide under the guise that doing so will allow the risk of corrupted/viral infected recoveries; right like everyone transfering recovery CDs/DVDs are going to keep their usb bootable recovery permanently on the usb flash drive
:rolleyes2: .

Hey everyone,
I have the Canadian Olympic version of the 1810T with the bilingual keyboard. I just managed to buy this US keyboard from eBay. I can't stand the small left shift key.
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Acer-Aspire-Timeline-1810T-1810TZ-1810-T-Keyboard-US-BL_W0QQitemZ230453645932QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item35a81b926c#ht_2632wt_939
Using some previous posts, it looks like an easy swap. I can't wait!

Yositine,
The 1810T-8638 is black; I beleive there are similar configs w the 1810T-86xx IDs that designate color difference only. I could be wrong.
I bought mine from Provantage for 603 + 24 shipd to Cali and it took about 18 days to deliver. If your not in a hurry, that price will be hard to beat.
I could have gone for the Amazon deal, but saw no reason to pay $80 more for same item [maybe free shipping], other than you'll get it maybe in 3-4 days. I would have had to pay Ca sales tax too.
I sourced the Canadian model, w/silver textured lid, etc, otherwise same as 1810T-8638, for about the same price, but they would not ship to Cali.
You could buy a non-BT model [you might also end up with a diff WiFi card in that case also-not sure if bad or good thing], but you will need to source a compatible BT card w/correct drivres and do the install yourself. Maybe not a big deal to some, but I value my time differently.
So far, I have few complaints and no system is perfect, but I like it overall so far after my own personal tweaks. -
Thanks jps, the Acer site says the only US models with bluetooth from the factory are the 4013, 4174, 8638, and 8679 (these are black and blue 7300 and 4100 CPU configurations). Currently CDW has the 8638 in stock for $602 plus $16 UPS ground. I've received good deals via Provantage but sometimes they take forever. They are now pricing the 8638 at $613 special order. I do have a simple USB bluetooth dongle, so built in bluetooth is not a deal breaker, its just worth a $20 maybe $30 premium to me. There seems to be plenty of equivalent canadian 1810TZ versions for roughly $580 CND (4100 or 7300 processor some still with vista) shipping included. The 9400 CPU versions for about $730 CND.

Here's a massive battery for 1410-1810.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ACER-Aspire-AS1...ItemQQptZLaptop_Batteries?hash=item335b7e4ae4
And a smaller one.

I felt a little 'used' having paid $600 for an ultraportable w/out an optical drive, eventhough it serves my purposes extremely well otherwise.
Of course much of this price is driven by the market 'newness' of this form factor: ultraportable v. netbook v. desktop substitute.
For a $100+ greater price point, I would have to know unequivocally that my processing needs won't be fulfilled w/just an SU7300.
At this point in my non-gamer Win7, Adobe, Word, photo, etc apps use, and my current level of internet use, the 7300 will have a reasonable life span. I surmised from the winbench testing results for mobile processors at 'notebookcheck.com' that its a good cost compromise for this form factor platform.
But hey, some peple are paying $450+ for 10.1" Atom powered netbooks. -
What specifically was your point again? You want to know for sure that for an extra hundred dollars that the processor won't satisfy your needs? Oh, do you mean choosing the SU9400 over the SU7300?
IMO the difference between the two is null. It's just a 200mhz overclock, you're going to need to do something with decent duration to notice any difference (encoding a video).
And the lack of optical drive is standard now, there are lots of alternatives at this point, like downloading the program, usb dvd drive, transfering through a usb stick or sharing a drive over a network. -
My 'point' is in reference/reply to post #3357 above.
The subject is the cost of the various configs of the 1810T.
My post was commentary of this UP's price point; specifically in response to Yosotine, but this being a forum, my comment are open for discussion.
However, the effect of your comments is not lost. I agree regarding the diff b/twn the 7300 and 9400, hence, my statement: "I would have to know unequivocally that my processing needs won't be fulfilled w/just an SU7300. ", therefore, I don't know of a compelling reason to pay the extra 100 or so for the su9400.
Your comments on an optical drive are not news to me and were previously factored before my 1810T purchase; nontheless, they [opticals] are a convenience. Of course I bought subject to that, fully aware that it is part of the 'give-back' for weight savings and size reduction. -
While I'm here, and after doing a search with no luck, I tried entering the BIOS to set a Power on Password. The option is not selectable.
What am I missing here?
I always use a POP on all of my systems. -
Not sure where to post this but I'll give it a try.
Need to install XP on a 1810t-734g32n.
XP-Install needs ofcourse the SATA driver so I downloaded from the Acer site the "AHCI_INTEL_v.8.8.0.1009_Vistax86" driver. In the past I used with other computers F6 during XP install to integrate the SATA driver from a floppy. Those drivers where .TXT files, however, now the driver is an .EXE which likely will not work. I have both a USB-floppy and USB-DVD drive ready for this notebook.
Any idea how to handle this please? Any other solution to install XP onto the 1810T?
Hansoon -
Not sure how to do the usb-floppy method, but using 7-zip to extract the .exe should do it. Usually I just use n-lite to slipstream the drivers onto a XP iso.
-
Does the 1410-2990 have any warranty stickers that need to be removed / broken when upgrading the RAM and Hard Drive or when installing the bluetooth module?
-
Do you mean the disk lock/password? I think its in the drive setup screen where you can also set high or low security.
-
No it doesn't.Just to be safe try not to leave too many traces when you do the bluetooth ''surgery".
-
It all comes apart very easily (do the credit card trick to separate the halves). If you find yourself forcing something assume your're doing something wrong.
-
Yositime,
I enetered the BIOS and under the Security tab, of the four available selections for setting password options, only 2 were selectable. The POP was 'greyed' out or not selectable. I've never had a BIOS POP option 'unselectable'.
Although I've not seen this before, maybe it requires another password setting to be made first. -
What you could do is create a custom "slipstreamed" disc of Windows XP. Slipstreaming is where you integrate service packs, updates, patches, etc. into the installation where several programs can assist you with that. You can slipstream the driver into an ISO, burn it onto a disc and use that from here on out. -
Is that battery made in China or Japan? I don't trust Chinese batteries because it makes me think they took a high quality normal capacity battery and overload/overcharged/over stuffed it to make the new high capacity.
^^ What he said, any ideas please? -
I don't trust them either. It is strange that yesterday that battery was 75$ and today 160$.The same seller has the same battery at the same ebay store for 79$!!!!!
I would rather have two 5600mah batteries than attaching that massive thing into my notebook. -
That's what I tried too, both with nLite and XPIsoBuilder. The problem is that it needs a TXTSETUP.OEM which is not in the driver provided by Acer on their website.
Hansoon -
Understand i fits - I just can´t figure out if the specs are right; i know it´s made for acer one, but does it charge m y 1810t without burning it up f.e? -
It doesn't mention output at all,so it is impossible to tell.If it helps I charge an Acer aspire one d150 and a 1810TZ with the same charger(they have the same charger). If I have to guess I would say that it is safe.would they sell a charger that would fry the notebook???
-
why not copy the inf file and rename the copy as txtsetup.oem? If I remember correctly txtsetup is just to point to the correct location of the drivers. Maybe you're supposed to look for a more generic driver?
If it's on ebay then YES, especially if it's comming from china. -
Agreed... these batteries are oddball products that should not be trusted.
But the "China" comments on quality are not accurate.
Our best notebooks are made in China by Taiwanese companies that
sub-contract extensively there. I just read somewhere that Taiwan companies
control the manufacturing of 90% of the world's notebooks.
HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Asus, Apple, MSI, all of them.
So don't think so much about the "Chinese" quality issue.
Here is a quick supporting link, not perfect.
BTW.. I'm old enough to have gone thru many stages...
When I was a kid.... Americans looked down on
everything that was "Made in Japan", then "Made in Korea",
then "Made in Taiwan" -
[Off topic replies to yus9]:
Always assumed Asus was a singaporean or malaysian company. What about the former Abit and Tyan what were they?
1) kids hockey sticks with high lead contamination were made in china
2) plush toy teddy bears dressed as mounties stocked and sold in canadian airports contaminated with lead were made in china
3) children's toys covered in lead based paint were made in china
laptop batteries spontaneously combusting/igniting were made in china (althought they were Sony branded a Japanese company)
4) Majority of counterfeit goods are made in china (I believe it's safe to say they're counterfeit central)
5) Toyota's acceleration problems although Toyota is a Japanese name I think the company is Korean? I'll give them a pass as it's an odd problem to happen randomly with no prior history of such errors in the company.
6) The Landway SUV is ranked as the worst and most unsafe vehicle ever to be released on the road and it costs $15-$25K USD sometime around 2003-2005 and it's made in China. Lowest rank in every safety test it experienced.
7) In china thousands if not millions of children were found malnourished in hospitals due to a brand of powdered milk turning out to be counterfeit powdered milk. It ended up being nothing more than corn starch and the poor parents had no idea. Lots of children died from the mal nutrition too.
8) Just recently (last few years) a group of maybe 5 chinese residents were charged with I believe manslaughter or some other major charge of severe harm causing death. The group had been faking some ingredient in milk to make it pass inspection standards when in fact it wasn't safe or prepared for commercial sale/consumption at all. They went on for years doing this. One of the members in this group was a senior woman 50-70yrs old looking. I think she gets jail for the rest of her life along with the others. This reminds me of the counterfeit/fake/contaminated orange juice problem that was going on in USA like a decade ago.
If our products were made in Japan, Canada, or even USA they wouldn't be as dangerous or faulty. I've never heard of such mistakes from any Japanese products and speaking with my friend that's lived in Japan all her life. They have enforced restrictions on safety and environmental responsibility/friendliness with products.
I also bet if our products were made in Canada there'd be a lot more care put into making a good, safe, and healthy product. USA maybe less so as they're more focused on production quantity but there are many USA companies that follow a healthier approach.
My issue with China is not because they're chinese or foreign at all, I like foreign products just as much as local minus the increased cost in transporting overseas. My issue is China has the best track record for screwing things up accident or on purpose IDK but I don't trust their quality usually even though I'm fully aware 90% of anything purchaseable is made there. You should notice as more and more products were made there, our warranties and product lifespan shrunk down more and more. Can't be a coincidence. I believe China's poverished and desperate side has pushed them to rush things or cut corners.
Have you seen any high quality/archival grade optical discs made in China yet? I havn't, all of those grades I've seen were made in India, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan (Sony), even the Japanese made Fujis but not the Chinese Fujis. Sanyo is a Japanese company right? They make DSP chips for Plextor and they were really good at making cordless phones back in the day and they came up with Eneloop LSD NiMH batteries right?
I guess you could say Panasonic is one of the good Chinese exceptions. It is chinese right?

My multi-gesture was working. Now, for some reason, it no longer works.
However, the touchpad does work for movng the cursor. Any ideas? -
From the Win7 SuperSite: Late last week, "Microsoft surprised us with a sweeping set of announcements concerning almost all of its virtualization technologies. Here's what the company announced, and what it means to the software giant's business customers."
Have you considered Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode?
A CPU with virtualization hardware is no longer necessary,
although your SU7300 does have it, but my SU4100 does not.
Win7 Pro or Win7 Ultimate is still required, but you can legally upgrade for free following
this described method that will work for ANY edition (Starter/Home/Pro/Ultimate).
You can go directly to Microsoft's new Windows Virtual PC page.
MS will evaluate your machine and offer the appropriate free downloads. -
Leif1 I found that flash especially multiple flash windows/tabs can interfere with some of the gestures. Especially Chirial Motion (circular motion for uninterrupted page scroll).
Are you saying that link demonstrates how to legally upgrade from Acer's say stock Home Premium up to Pro or Ultimate for free permanently? I mean are we legally allowed to do a feature upgrade like that? I was always under the impression that we can do a version upg from say Vista to Win7 but keep the same feature package like Home->Home, Business->Pro, Ultimate->Ultimate. -
Well ... maybe something a bit less than legal.
Ghetto ... 2:26 a.m edits? You need to get some beauty rest. -
Gee, the first battery has more than 110 Whr, this should give easily around 20 hours runtime -

Toyota is Japanese, not Korean. Panasonic is Japanese as well, not Chinese. -
There's nothing wrong with using Chinese products. You hear all these negatives because almost 90% of manufactoring products are from China.
I only recently found out my iPhone is 100% made in China. -
Correct. Heck, iPad pre-orders are shipping to consumers direct from China! -
Who has the best price on DDR2 memory for a 2GBx2 upgrade for my 1410T?
Bronsky

If you are looking for someone in the US, datamemorysystems.com seems to have 2GB sticks for like $60 each plus shipping.

I'm on Intel graphic driver 2021 and now it won't run a 1080p monitor at 60Hz refresh rate, it wants to run at 30 despite it working fine a few days ago on the same driver. It also royally screwed up the color settings on my monitor, the black level is horribly bright now. Anybody else having similar problems?
-
Thanks to all. Ordered from Microcenter for $78 for 4 GB. 40GB Intel X25 SSD is next.
Add a 16GB SD card and my 1410 is complete.
-
So it does work to "upgrade" your existing feature level to a higher one?
Yeah I don't sleep much especially since my Acer 1410 is offline while I try to solve install the recovery discs via usb flash drive. I mean I get it to boot and attempt to copy files to the C: drive so I'm really close. I need help cracking this problem and everyone would greatly benefit too.
I think ncix.com occassionally has 2GB DDR2-667 for $30/$40CAD. Although the company is Canadian location in British Columbia they have a US site at ncixus.com . I sure pat myself on the back for jumping at a few 2GB DDR2-667 kingstons for $15 last year february at a Futureshop sale in Canada. I really wasn't expecting standard price to climb everywhere.
Also for Bronsky I found class 10 SDHC & microSDHC cards at ncix. I bought A-DATA brand 8GB SDHC for $27CAD reg. price. You guys being in the US I bet long since found such cards. -
I had various but different problems using 2021.
But the most recent, 2086 is working perfectly on my 1810TZ.
Be sure to uninstall the old driver and reboot first.
Link to 2086 downloads are here.

I am looking to buying a keyboard protector for this, but for the EU/French Canadian keyboard, the kind of protector I am looking for is the one that fits the keys precisely and is not just a sheet of silicone. I've looked on eBay but they are all for the US keyboard. Anyone know where I can get one? ships to Canada.
Launch Manager seems to be very erratic. I press Fn+F7 and it takes several times to go from an enabled touchpad to a disabled one. I'm using the stock Vista one 2.0.0.0 and when I upgraded to the Windows 7 version 3.0.0.2, the Launch Manager lags, for example, I press Fn+Up it takes several seconds for the graphic to display and change the volume. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions? -
Hmm I have been burned with battery purchases in the past. I brought a replacement battery for a old digital camera we had. The replacement promised a third more battery life in the same package.
Result was a battery which lasted 12 shots before showing the low battery warning.

When watching a video with WMP while SD card is inserted, cpu utilization will stay way too high for me. When I open task manager I suspect I see an exra wmp service running while sd card is inserted. I suspect it's trying to sync with SD card in the backround that's causing this. If so I'd like to know how to remove WMP sync option since I don't use it anyway if anybody knows how.
-
Same here on an 1410 su3500 when I upgraded from vista to win7.I learned to live with it.On my 1810TZ it works just fine.
-
amazon.ca has 2x2GB DDR2-800 Kingston for $70CAD right now so I assume amazon.com will have it even less for USA people.
I get the same sound volume lag with stock drivers on vista. I only experienced this when running a flash video like youtube or megavideo. It's immediate when in just vista, try testing the responsiveness when you have no flash running/open. As for the trackpad that seemed to always be immediate but I don't recall testing disabling it when I had flash video running.
I believe inside your media player options there's a page/tab about syncing to portable devices. You can turn off syncing there I think. Or maybe it's on the media player options tab that lists your devices. If it's that tab you can probably select your SD card and change properties for it from that tab too. If none of that works browse your "Services" control panel and look for services relating to media player like "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" or "Windows Media Center..." etc. -

Wondering what you all are getting in terms of battery life? For the life of me I can't get more than 4 hours (level 3 bright), on the 1410-2285 stock battery (4400mAh). BatteryBar is telling me I've got a 10.2% wear level.
