I might have good news on the stealth PC front!
Someone managed to run Smartfan on the 1810t without error and the fan stopped for a moment. I'll keep you updated when there is more info :)

I was going to buy a 751. I've borrowed one for a few weeks and it's not too bad.

But I saw the 1410 being released and I have a few questions. And this place seems to be the place where all the interested people are comming.

I have seen "Vantage72"'s excellent reviews on youtube, but they don't answer all my questions, so I hope somebody here can help.

Do the touchpad buttons click from the edge or the top? Sounds silly, but I like to use the laptop in bed before I go to sleep (usually movies, but sometimes web surfing), and to see such a small screen I have to prop it up in such a way that its resting on its edge. Edge mounted touch pad buttons could be a problem.

Second, what about real battery life...

For example, watching a DVD ISO image as compared to doing something like CPU burn?

With the 751, I could do about anything I wanted and the battery life hardly changed. Sure, it was slow, I could get a good 6+ hours of full cpu usage out of it.

Third, how did they manage to get the battery to not stick out, like on the 751? I know the 1410 has a smaller battery than the 1810, so that's some of it, but what else did they do? Did they shrink the keyboard or something?

Finally, can anybody tell me *WHY* Acer has decided to give American buyers "The Finger" and sell us a reduced capacity battery compared to what the rest of the world is getting? (ie: 1410 vs 1810) I sure do feel cheated about that. Really, REALLY cheated. Feeling cheated is actually my biggest reservation about buying the 1410!!

My theory about that spec removement is, that they put it there accidentally and they just cleaned it up. It belongs in a 1810tz section and not in the 1810t section after all.

The news about those new CULV including su4100 in Q4 fits perfectly in the timeframe of the rumored 1810tz :D Surely Intel's loved ones like Acer get the chips early to have devices ready when the new CPUs are announced ;)

Btw, something new on the overclocking front:
I got a screenshot of SetFSB and it shows that TME is enabled, so unfortunately a hardware MOD has to be made :(

I can't really answer any of your questions. But it is possible that the 1810T(Z) also comes to the US with 5600 mAh battery.

J&R has no idea where the 1410's are. So we're not getting them anytime soon, it looks like. Not from J&R at least. Pity Amazon charges tax for Washington state orders, otherwise I'd just cancel and get it from them.

That's because Americans prefer cheaper price over power. In order to compete with the netebook prices, they have to make some sacrifices. This is same for cell phones. Havent you notice we are behind in mobile technology than the rest of the world?

Uhh.. well the cell networks might be behind, but I wouldn't say the phones are.

But is it so difficult to offer an extended battery option?

The phones still are, partially as a result of the cell networks. Other than the iPhone, Pre, and Omnia, the US doesn't have much in the way of powerhouse phones, since stuff like the Viewty/Arena, Omnia HD, Nokia N-series phones, high end Sony Ericsson handsets, etc go for $500+ unlocked here and are impossible to get on contract. So nobody buys them. In Europe/Asia, with contract, you can get them for reasonable prices, so the general population in Europe and Asia has far better mobile phones than the general American population. My cousin got a Viewty for next to nothing under contract two years ago, and I couldn't get my hands on one for under $550 here.

For comparison, most popular mobile phone in India, the Nokia N70 - 4 year old phone just by design, and it's still better featured than most of the dumbphones people buy here.

    --------------end of off topic rant--------------

I think they just made the battery smaller to drop the price into netbook-competitive range. I can live with the 2 hour battery life loss. The dual core model will probably get it....the dual core might actually be out by the time Acer gets me my 1410. What the hell. If the TZ actually debuts in the US before I get mine, I will cancel my order.

I think our phones are behind. I remember a few years back I had a Jap phone with video chatting and 3.2mpx. That was when US just had 1.3 mpx. I had the Sharp 903sh and that was back in 2005.

They probably want to make it cheaper so more people would buy it. and the least noticeable sacrifice is to make the battery weaker.
Because of the weaker battery, they had to rename it to 1410 since timelines are 8+ hours of battery. If the 1810t were sold here, it would probably be above 500 and most people prefer sub 500?

Edit: Okay...we pretty much said the same thing. lol

Hi: i saw that as well, but I cannot seem to find a source in Acer or with a retailer that can give me an accurate model number. Also, what about the new AS1410/1810TZ that is coming out in a little while. Having a small lightwieght dual core netboom laptop sounds even better that the Aspier AO751h.

I've been to Korea and Japan as recently as this past summer, being something of a geek, I went and looked at their phones. Hell, I had to help my sister choose and buy one because she's staying there for a whole year, so I even tested a bunch out, from the low end all the way on up. They are nothing special. You look at what you can buy here in the states without any sort of special importing or whatever, and they are very much in the same league.

I'm curious as to what you think "they" have. Some kind of god phone that is a netbook in a pocketsized device? It's hilarious, because my Korean cousins all covet the iPhone and you're all sitting here talking about how leaps and bounds ahead of us the rest of the world is.

And duh about the battery life. I can always "wait". That's the solution for everything that is technology. If I wait long enough I bet I can buy a laptop that runs for days and plays Crysis on max settings. But what doesn't make sense to me is why Acer simply wouldnt give you an option for an extended battery. It's not like I'm asking for it for free.

Here's where you come back with "order from Europe" forgetting about the hassle and the import fees and taxes that make it prohibitively expensive.

Has anyone ordered from Amazon by chance, and had their unit ship? I'm kind of weary of Amazon with these kinds of orders because last time I ordered a 1000HE and... it got mixed up to say the least. Is it REALLY in stock? Are they actually shipping? (the blue model)

Naa, I just imagine everyone carrying around N95s, Viewtys, Sony C905s, and HTC Touch 4Gs instead of the crap samsung flips and the like that people generally have here. Which, sounds not too far off to me....I dunno.

Acer doesn't do options, they do different SKUs. So wait for the dual core to come out with the bigger battery and such. You could always buy a 5600mAh battery separately, but that's usually pretty expensive.

I called J&R to ask if the 1410 is in stock yet. She said no, but said they should be in on Wednesday. I said I need the laptop by the weekend because of a business trip (total lie). She said she'll upgrade me to 2nd day air and I should have it by friday. If not, I gonna cancel my order.

My relatives in India have better cell phones than I do. ;)

So it seems confirmed the 1410 here will have a smaller battery compared to international units which are called the 1810. Are they otherwise identical in specs and price?

Perhaps we will get the larger battery bundled with the dual-core models to come soon. I hope we can purchase it separately and it is not overpriced.

The 1410's MSRP in the U.S is $450. What can we expect the dual-core model to retail at?

Dual-core, better battery, maybe some more RAM? I'd say it'd retail for the same as the slightly bigger but slower 3810TZ with the U2700: $549.99

    Hi All,

I tried searching this thread and wasn't able to find if anyone has tried putting an Intel 5350 WiFi/WiMax miniPCIe in-place of the 5100. Are the USB D+ D- lines enabled on the miniPCIe slots?

    Cheers,

Yeah, and from previous experience, even Amazon is kinda dodgy on issues like these. I had an experience when the 1000HE was newly released... It resulted in a $50 credit, but I'd rather have had the device on time and without making numerous calls and e-mails.

Which keyboard does the 1410 come with? The pictures from the Acer usa website and the images on amazon shows the one with a tall enter key and the shortened left shift key with the forward slash relocated to the left side of the keyboard... That's a big negative for me. I have the lenovo s10 right now and the right shift key with the up arrow next to it bugs the hell out of me.... I won't get the 1410 if the keyboard is messed up like my like s10.

The pictures of the keyboard on the various sites seem to be taken from the Asian, European, or UK versions of the 1810T. I don't think there are any actual pictures of the US model currently.

Im up here in WA state as well!!! I ordered from buy.com on sunday night, and today monday supposedly it was shipped out. Funny thing, the netbook was 450.00 buxs plus 10 buxs for shipping which said it would be here in 2-5 business days! Well low and behold fedex tracking number says it be here in 7 business days on the 31st of august, what kind of crap is that? the free shipping option said 7-10 business days, I pay 10 dollars and they dont give me the better shipping, So I emailed them asking for a refund for shipping! anyhow its on its way, the diamond black one! from new jersey!

It's a dutch one but I'm assuming you get the same keyboard.

I wonder why no one else has posted yet because it has been in stock in several places now for several days, even in US (Amazon).

I really hope so, because his review made me rethink my decission to buy an 1810t.
I decided to be fine with a su3500, but the fan noise is to much for me. Right now i have a absolutely silent (no sound at all - except when typing ;) ) Notebook (R100+SSD) and i don't want to go back since i am very picky when it comes to noise from notebooks. And as i read in the other forum you (mali) prefer a silent notebook too :)

I am quite picky too, and the SU3500 was by no means noisy in my opinion. Except for when I blocked the fan OR when doing lots of CPU intensive stuff in High performance mode. Then still it wasn't noisy but audible.

But in balanced or energy saver the laptop is one of the most quiet I've worked with. Except for the Samsung NC10 and Acer 751 that seem almost fanless.

Acer is known for cranking up the fan even when it is not necessary. Just look at that other review, where they compiled stuff on the 1810t maxing out the CPU load and the core didn't get hotter than 43 degrees Celsius
Smartfan will also help to get rid of the constant running fan when connected to mains.
When I first got my Aspire One I thought what a piece of sh*t, the fan was whining all of the time. Glad I found a way to make it quiet. I love my Aspire one for it's silence and I'm easily annoyed by my large Notebook now, because I just got used to silent computing.

When looking at the fact that my Aspire One and the 1810 have got the same battery capacity while 1810t gets at least 2 hours more battery life, I expect the 1810t to be even more quiet than my netbook after adding an SSD. The cooling assembly in 1810t should also be much better with its heatpipe than that sheet of aluminum called heatsink in the Aspire One ;)

Looking at the bright side: 160GB is single platter and makes slightly less noise and uses slightly less power than 250GB, dual platter.

Look here. Multitronic in Sweden seems to be scheduling the equivalent of the 1810TZ model with SU4100 and 3GB of memory for the 9th of September. :)

What kind of toll would the dual core do to battery times? Anybody knows? This might be the only gripe I would have to the dual core model...

Yea, but also there are errors and missunderstood things, like this:

    http://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/a455359.html

They say 1810TZ, but if you see the proccessor is the SU3500 ...

Nobody knows yet as this model still does not exist really or phisically ... (Intel has just announced the lunch of the new CULV proccessors) ...but is expected that the drain power of the Dual Core it should be not to much far away from the perfomance with the SU3500 ... all it will depend on how much time are you running with the 2 core on ... may be one hour less as much (just a guess from I have read).

    For the moment is "vaporware"

    Cheers

9 september sounds excellent. Or is this one of those shops that always says 'in 2 weeks' when they really don't know when they'll get it?

Well, the one claiming to have the 4100 is the "AS1810T-413G32N" and the one you linked with the 3500 is the "1810TZ-412G25N" So they aren't the same model number or anything.

I expect the battery life to be the same on both models. Even su9400+Ati4330 got only 15min less battery life in a 3810TG compared to a su3500+4500MHD.

The workload is the important factor. Doing the same thing on a single or dual core consumes the same amount of energy. The idle consumption will be a little higher on a dual core, but su4100's clock is 100MHz less.

Btw, thanks for the link :)

I think the SU3500 does a little better as shown in benchmarks. But the difference is quite small so it doesn't matter much.

I searched Buy.com and I can't find the 1410 on their site. This coud be a decent deal because they offer 6 to 14% cash back through bing cash. The only 11.6 I could find on buy.com was the Aspire one A0751h-1273 which has the z520 processor and sells for 449.99

Just in case it helps someone, I ordered a Sapphire 1410 from Amazon last night and it just shipped. Should be here (Sacramento, CA) Friday. I paid standard shipping.

Buy.com doesn't have the model name in their system for some reason. Try searching by the manufacturer's part #:

    Sapphire Blue: LX.SA90X.059
    Diamond Black: LX.SA70X.066
    Ruby Red: LX.SAB0X.073

Personally I ordered from Amazon on Monday, standard shipping. Shipped out of Atlanta, GA and expected to arrive here Wednesday.
