Nobackup, from your experience do you guys in Dubai get Acers before other regions?
I always thought USA would be first, or maybe Japan or China or something.

we always seem to get the newest nokia and sony phones first..
we seem now to get the latest sony laptops before the rest
we seem now to get the latest HP laptops before the ROW (Rest Of World)
2 weeks after the product page for the 4/3810T went up on the local site, it was on the shelf... think its to do with being in the same division (ASIA) to where these things are made, and also we have a hugh market (middle east), which has not suffered (except from property), from the world wide crash -
we get the sony sr490, fw 490, & z790 after the ROW...
we do not have the 3810tg... -
and now it has a dedicated page on acer's site

those are prices in europe... in usa they're usually cheaper..
-
(Its against the LAW not to mark prices including VAT in the EU, and Germany is 19% Tax )
me thinks that they will be here for around $400
The 3 Gig unit also has 3G modem by the way so ~$500 -
The 2GB version will be around $550 in US. -
-
$500? thats not too bad, $100 more then the gateway but this has hdmi and slightly better graphics.
I just wish it could do flash HD but that processor cant
anyone have any reccomendations for best laptop for my money under 15inches for $1000 -
^demarco, what Gateway model are you referring to?
Nobackup I hope your source is right, $500 sounds great. -
i think this might be my next laptop
a shame the lack of aluminium

^Too bad that AMD Athlon L110 CPU doesn't seem to be much better than the Intel Atom in the Aspire One 751,.
I haven't seen an Atom vs. CULV comparo yet, but so far all sources have claimed the SUxxxx series is much faster than the Atoms.
http://www.liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/lt3103u-benches.jpg -
at least this thing is supposed to have GMA4500HD and not the GMA950.
I can't wait till a review of this comes out. might actually jump on it if it can handle videos really well. -
the athlon l110 is actually fairly quick, but neither the athlon l110 or the su3000 in the new timeline will handle youtubehd or flash hd, which makes it pointless to spend $550
-
It will struggle with Youtube HD but it will play 1080p H264 smooth. -
yeah flashhd is mlb.com and youtubehd is important too, which make this a tough buy for me, i gotta find something to buy damnit
-
oh and only 4 hours
-
Yeah about that "8-hour" battery life... that's only with Acer's special power-saving software right?
Because none of the other Intel CULV laptops I've seen claim 8-hour battery life--only about 5 hours usually.
I'm trying to figure out if Acer's CULV Timeline series is unique in its battery life, or if other CULV laptops would also be able to pull such feats when set to minimize power usage. -
I don't think Acer is unique in this. Most brands with SU3500, X4500 and 5200mAh should get 7-8 hours battery life I expect.
-
everybody is always taking about youtube HD...i've never watched a single HD vid on youtube!
with a small screen size like for this computer, would it really matter for youtube HD? -
Adobe has said to make flash GPU accelerated. Until that happens flash is the main reason most people need stronger CPUs. For my personal use Flash would be the only reason a SU3500 would not be sufficient. -
Me too, if Acer starts selling these in the US before college season 2009
-
but will it actually come with a 3G module inside?
Or will I need to buy a 3G module for this machine? If so which one?
Seems like more than one driver is listed at the Acer MidEast web location.
I have no experience with 3G, cell phone or otherwise.
I've been pretty good with tech stuff,
but somehow have missed the entire 3G revolution.
I'd appreciate some basic simple info on 3G.
Shall I go to a local phone store and signup?
I've got adequate non-3G cell phone service now.
What will I need, or need to do to get online via 3G with my 1810T?
Doesn't help that I moved from Santa Cruz to Taiwan 3 months ago.
But any simple info to get me up to speed will help.
Thanks. -
-
True but HERE is not USA so $400 is the middle east price.. -
Does Acer generally take a long time between announcing and shipping their products? If I can buy a 1810T within the next two months for cheaper than the 3810T, I'll be ecstatic.
-
Acer is usually really quick to market. 1810T is expected in 2 weeks here in Netherlands. I expect within 4-6 weeks in the US.
-
4-6 weeks!?
Acer should squeeze them out earlier to catch the back-to-school students, like me.
I'm waiting 2 more weeks, then I guess I'll have to settle for a 3810.
Another thing I've been wondering--how come the 1810T doesn't even offer the SU2700 option yet the bigger Timelines do? -
Two dutch resellers have removed the 1810T from their pricelists. I wonder what's going on.
-
I have an Acer 751. Am thinking of selling it and getting the 1810T, but am not sure it is worth the extra money.
From what I can tell the SU3500 will not give a great difference in performance (i.e. if you want to do anything processor intensive you'll still have to have another comp.)
I've not experienced any problems doing basic tasks with the 751 (after AV removed, etc...). Browsing is fine, email is fine, documents with Google docs and OpenOffice are fine. Watching media with VLC is also very good. Just Flash, which is well known issues.
I think the fact that it likely can't serve as a main computer is a sticking point for me. The 751 is only $350 now while the 1810T will be $500.
Two of the things I like most about the 751 are that it's silent and it doesn't get very hot. Any idea how noisy and hot the 1810T will get, being that there is a faster processor in the same body?
Lastly, does anyone know if the 751 can output to an external monitor at a higher resolution than 1366 x 768? That may also swing me to the 1810T as I like to have a lot of resolution when working on docs. -
^Yes I believe it can output to higher resolution. I think it was done with a different Timeline laptop.
Are you sure about $500? If it were that cheap then nobody in their right mind would get a 3810 or 4810 with an SU2700, because both those cost >$500.
Comparing the 3810 to the 1810: does the 13.3" have a larger Trackpad or are they teh same? -
GloStix, I was wondering about the 751. It seems like on mine, Intel and Acer have limited it to 1366x768 output. I'm guessing it is a limitation of the GMA 500?
I don't have a montior at home at the moment, so was wondering if anyone else has been able to do it. It would be great if it could output 1600x900 minimum, and ideally 1920x1080. But, I think that the GMA 500 would have trouble keeping up at those resolutions. -
PS. 751 has just enough performance for a netbook. 1810T is quite a bit faster. CPU is way faster, GPU, memory and hard drive.
Installing an SSD in 751 will be capped at 46MB/sec. In 1810T it will be about three times faster or more (I'm not sure if it's SATA 1 or 2).
This review gives a good picture of SU3500 vs. Z520. MSI X340 had SU3500, like 1810T. 751 has Z520.

Looks like a breef hands-on form a Ukranian site. No new details, besides, maybe, confirming that the palm rest surface is matte, and the lid surface is glossy, but not too much of a fingerprint magnet. They are promising a more detailed review soon.

If they had one with a SU9400 around £500 i think it would be worth it. But any ideas on how hot it would get?
-
I'm afraid it's the 3 cell though. Since the pictures show an exact match to the 751. -
According to the Middle East website:
Weight & Dimensions
* 285 (W) x 204 (D) x 22.1/30 (H) mm (11.22 x 8.03 x 0.87/1.18 inches)
* 1.35 kg (2.97 lbs.)
Power Supply & Battery
* ACPI 3.0 CPU power management standard: supports Standby and Hibernation power-saving modes
* 62.16 W 5600 mAh 6-cell Li-ion battery pack:
• up to 8-hour battery life
* 30 W AC adapter
* ENERGY STAR® 5.0
If you look at the pics there is more space between the function keys and screen. Also, it is a little thicker at the back than the 751 (1.18") which makes me think that the 6 cell wont stick out the back. -
-
It's a six cell battery and the weight of 1.35kg is right.
There doesn't even exist a three cell AFAIK. -
I know that Acer says so. I'm just sceptical and want to see it weighed on a proper scale.
-
The 1810t might be a worthy successor to my AOA110. -
Any info as to whether or not it will have the same trackpad (size) as the 3810T?
I'm afraid that tiny thing will be uncomfortable. -
The touchpad on the 751 is pretty small (probably the same one?). But, I don't have any problems using it.
It has a multi-touch spiral action for scrolling (think iPod click-wheel) which works pretty well. I can scroll a whole webpage without lifting my finger.
The main annoyance is the rocker mouse buttons which took some time to get used to. But, the 1810t has two buttons so that's fixed as well. -
Do you guys think Acer will get this computer out before the end of August? I'm looking for a new computer for the start of school in September and I'm really interested in the 1810T.
