Thanks so much for the previous info/pics. Can you confirm whether an SD card sticks out when inserted into the card reader?
Thanks!

Just wanted to chime in on the audio quality of the notebook. The speakers aren't the loudest but they do the job. My macbook definitely has superior audio (speaker wise).
Regarding the headphones issue, my headphones work great. I have a few pairs of headphones (from low to high end) and none of them have this audio interference that was described in the thread. Maybe it was something with his model. I'm listening to some HQ streaming radio right now and it sounds great. I guess you can put me in the audiophile category and I am more than happy with the sound. -
That's reassuring. Thanks for the info! -
Anybody noticed if an internal Bluetooth module can be easily plugged in?

If you use a "high quality USB headset" as do yourself, it is the exact same technology, just that the soundchip is probably built-in on the cable...
With the USB headset I use, a Sennheiser, the "USB connection" was in fact a dongle similar to that in the picture. The sound quality was on par with that in my stationary computer, a realtek chip I think. All the other collegues of mine with the same devices are quite happy with it. I did eventually put in my old Audigy card in the computer to get just a bit better sound for use with music. (I am a bit of an audiophile, I confess). For laptop use there are high quality external USB soundcards that offer great sound, but they are hardly portable.

Hello, a quick update of my latest experiences with the 1810t:
- I don't seem to be able to connect wireless at draft N speeds. It tops out at 54 Mbps :S Chipset is reported as Intel 5100 AGN. I use a Netgear draft N router at home and my iMac connects at 270 Mbps just fine sittin gnext to the laptop...
- just connected to my plazma TV via HDMI. I don't seem to be able to select the native 1366x768 resolurion of the panel. Again from my mac it works just fine (after adding a custom resolution).
- video performance is not satisfactory ... Playing the 720p Amazon WMV from microsoft results in about 70 percent CPU usage and occasional hiccups.
- 720p bluray rips (H264) play smoothly with MPC-HP. CPU is about 30%.
- ocassionally fan makes cirping noise.
- pretty much used it for a full day from 7am to 9 pm. An it did last on only one battery charge.
- The Laptop is quite snappy, after removing all the software from acer except power management. Google desktop and Windows Indexing is also terminated!
Does anyone have some advice how to get Draft N wireless speeds? Also what about the CPU usage with WMV HD? That should be much less based on previous reports.
Next I'm going to install Vista SP2 and WMP 12. -
Try the latest wireless driver from Intel.com, that usually helps a lot. Also for your graphics.
For custom resolutions try Entech's Powerstrip.

@AcerTimelineHunter
I wish I knew more about video acceleration, but from reading these boards I seem to remember that media player in Win7 has native acceleration. There is a thread somewhere where Phil asked about hardware acceleration. That should cover the problem -
Well he already has H264 playback running smooth.
720p WMV playback shouldn't be any problem as longs as Vista isn't using up system resources. Disabling processes and services will improve performance. 1080p WMV playback caused 100% CPU load but it still looked smooth to me. -
@Phil
I remember someone in that thread pointing out that Win7 has acceleration built-in for wmv. I'll recheck.
Edit:
Dunno, I don't find the part about wmv. Anyway, the thread is a good read so here is the link:

Did anyone try changing the gamma? That should take care of the slightly washed out look. (It's inside the Intel graphics driver).
-
Also WEP is not supported, it's either no security (+mac access) or WPA-AES/WPA2-AES-TKIP/WPA2-AES. I use the last. -
What is everyone using for a sleeve? I can only seem to find 10 inch sleeves which fit too tight. Also, is there a way to get recovery media from Acer for free? Will I need an external dvd drive when I get my free Windows 7 upgrade?
-
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14660
It works, fit is tight but good, it doesn't look fancy. -
New lowest price in Germany 495€, free shipping:

Really, I got it for 29 euro's, though a bit pricy for a dust magnet
By the way I thought the external acer dvd burner could be handy anyway, so I took that one too... Don't know what the media of the upgrade shall be, but as many previous media it can be converted to usb. (though you need another computer)

Current Acer 1810T owners, jaybee83 ran some benchmarks on his SU3500 (3810) and found that Balanced is faster than High performance profile.
Could anyone run Passmark Performance Test in both these profiles and post the total scores?
I'm not sure if the Acer 1410 is the same size as Acer 751. If it's bigger, it may not fit. -
Amazon is taking its sweet time shipping my 1410. Dammit, I want to play with it already!
-
This is useful; just plug in the dimensions for the AOD751 vs. the Acer 1410. This is cool for me because I'm upgrading from a 1000HE and the comparison is useful.
The dimensions I found for the Acer 751 are:
284 (W) x 198 (D) x 25.4 (H) mm
The dimensions I found for the Acer 1410 are a hair bigger:
284mm x 203mm x 30mm -
5 mm thicker. It will be exciting to order it
-
I guess you went for the FSSS. Yeah before I signed up for Prime membership, I had orders sit there for a week before it got shipped. No such problem with Prime - always shipped the same day. The $3.99 for overnight is great for big ticket items. I think Prime is worth it if you order a lot from Amazon.
Amazon knows what they're doing, their warehouses are strategically placed, just please don't put one in my stateMost of my orders are shipped from their warehouse next state, even ground service will get here the next day anyway.
Mine from J&R will be here today. I would have ordered from Amazon if it weren't for the cashback. Mine will be $361 after the cashback and J&R discount for when I called to cancel the order.

Has anyone had a chance to test the battery life on a 1410. I am going to be traveling to across the Pacific quite a bit and would like something that could get through 2 movies. It's between this and the 3810.
Thanks......... -
Both 1410 Celeron and 1410 su2300 have been removed from Notebook.de webshop.

450- 54(12%) = 396-$20= $376 !! -
joined just to add a few words for the Canadian Contingent (if there is any) .. but thanks for the great thread which helped me decide if I wanted this unit.
For reasons unknown - the Canadian versions are slightly different - 3 Gbytes memory instead of 2 (at least that is what is says on the box and stickers)
Staples has the 1410 with smaller batter with the red colour at $550 and the black at $500. For reasons unknown, the guy sold me the red at $500 - so what the heck.
Future Shop has the Gateway clone which is the same as the 1410 specs but with the larger battery for $600. So, if an extra 2 hours is worth $100 to you, the option is there.
edit -- .. hmmm just looked again and Future Shop price is $500 (was $600 when I first looked last week) - and specs still says it has the larger battery. Hmmm .. might have to make a return visit to Staples and FutureShop for a switcheroo .. hmmm. --edit
As far as performance - so far, so good for its intended performance of portable light useage. While I'm slightly tempted to wait for the dual-core SU4100, I'm not sure what I will gain --- the ability to do Flash HD isn't that compelling (for me). Of course, if I did wait until the SU4100 version was out -- this version would probably be down to $350 which is more compelling!!
As an owner of the original 7-inch EEEPC I obviously like the larger screen and more power, but don't like the loss of extreme portability -- I certainly wouldn't want to go any larger than this
I look forward to the day when there are "butterfly screens" (similar to keyboards) or unfolding-screens so I can have both screen-size AND portability.
This computer straddles between netbooks and full-size with the weaknesses of both (not all that powerful and not all that small - but by no means limp or heavy) which is a OK compromise for me.
Anyway - thanks again for all the great info on this thread

Has anyone tested the webcam yet? (Preferably with skype!)
Several Timeline 3810T reviews stated that the webcam was 720p and one of the best they'd used. However, none of the Acer specs indicate whether the 1410 has the same hardware... they all just list "CineCrystal bla bla marketing buzzwords bla bla". It seems likely that they would use the cheaper webcam found in the 751 or similar. I'm hoping that the quality is at least decent, because a bad picture would be a dealbreaker for me.
Is it 1.3 MP or 0.3 MP? Surprising how hard it is for manufacturers to keep these specs straight! -
Performance:
And indeed the result is less in performance mode!Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
@AcerTimelineHunter
Thanks for the results
But my interpretation is the opposite 364 > 358
Could you please post the PassMark CPU score for both modes, too?
So it seems that 1810t clocks differently compared to 3810t
Might be because they are made by different manufacturers, Quanta vs. Inventec.
Edit:
palle22 confirmed in the other thread that in 3810t both su3500 and su9400 perform better in balance mode.
Edit2:
Results are not so clear after all. It's an occasional jump to 1.6GHz but benchmark results don't exceed the error rate. -

Link to Future Shop -
and to correct myself...
I just noticed the thread under "Gateway and eMachines". A poster there purchased one and said the battery was the 4400 mAh, despite the web-page specs of 5600.
Guess I'll stick with my purty red one. -
I'm going to take a chance on the Gateway - the specs say it has 1GB more RAM and a 5600mah battery. I'll just remap the keyboard so the extra keys function like a US keyboard. The price works out to only $10 more in USD after exchange.
When I called J&R to cancel I told them I found a better model for the same price locally and that their shipping was too slow for my liking. They offered me 2-day shipping and a $15 gift card. -
mine was 450 - 63bing (14%) - 20 (cashback from jr) = 367
-
Just bought a 1410 from Staples. Gonna try this puppy out for 2 weeks to see if it's a worthy replacement for my 1000HE. I saw the gateway model first hand. I didn't like the grey colour internal plastics. The battery is the same 4400mah. 3gb ram on both the acer and the gateway.

Am I going to need to purchase a dvd drive to install windows 7 from its dvd. I have heard about sharing a drive from another computer over a network but does that work for an operating system install? Any other options?
-
@Jusin
That won't work.
You should create a Win7 USB stick. -
No need to spend $ on a dvd drive if all you need to do is install OS. Many ways to do this. Follow the instructions here, link.
Installs very fast even not a not so fast USB stick. I use a Sandisk 4GB.

Here's more pics from last night... I tried a few things to improve my "lemon" a little bit. I thought you guys might like this...
My first attempt at dampening the fan rattle failed... so I tried to find the real problem by running
the fan by itself and looking at sound levels.
Sound meter
It become obvious that Acer/Quanta messed up big time. There is metal-on-metal contact between the heatsink and fan housing.
They just aligned the two parts and taped the tops together... like they were intentionally trying to make a rattle!! So I put a few layers of electrical tape inbetween to make metal-on-metal contact not possible...
Wrapped part join
This made the sound much more reasonable... more like a normal fan, less like a diesel engine.
Here's pics of the chassis:

I tried using an to SSD reduce the electrical noise in the headphones a bit... It helped a little, but it only got rid of the noises the mechanical drive adding... other noises like the cursor moving are still there.

I might do some soldering for a shieled bypass... sure would suck though.
Finally...
pic of boot up test, no disk/keyboard/battery
See the original set of pics in cause you missed. -
Got my $63 cb from jr, bing pending for 57 days. Will have my netbook on thursday that is if ups doesn't mess up and not find my address. I don't understand the system, but how can ups not find my address when they have delivery to me many times before, not sure if fedex did the same? I'm from cali so it going to take the full 5-7 business day.
Can you use a external hd to install the win7 update?
thanks -
@lepton
Great stuff
Don't forget to add a second RAM module for some dual channel performance improvements -
@lepton:
nice mod you made there
Did you solve the problem with the bad contact between the heatsink and the gpu ?
