    Have your dad go to the Micro Center store in Columbus. They have lots of 1410s (26 in stock as of right now) but only the blue ones. Then he can go to UPS or FedEx or DHL and have them ship it to you. FedEx would probably be best.
    http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0317083

    You should ask him to pack it (or have a packaging store do it) in an outer box with padding added to protect the OEM box.

    And prepare to pay 0% customs and 15% tax on the indicated (price + shipping) cost ...

    State and local sales tax in Columbus is 6.75%, so the total purchase price at the store will be $480.36 ::

    https://thefinder.tax.ohio.gov/Stre...ransit=25000&county=049 &oneresult=true

    I don't know, but maybe he can avoid the sales tax if he shows a British passport and has the store ship it to the U.K.

    If the store ships than he most likely has to pay 15% sales tax in the UK! I'm not sure what happens if father sends to son a parcel of value x from the States to the UK, though...

    Thanks for the response. Ya, I see some are starting to have success after some tweeking. However, after reading all the reviews for this and the 3810T which also uses the SU3500, most people have proplems. So, the processor performance is obviously right on the borderline when it comes to Flash.

    Since the SU4100 version appears to be a reality, I think I'll just wait and have a little extra headroom. I mean, maybe with the SU4100, a person could actually have an extra i.e tab or two open while watching an HD video on youtube. That would be great since that's pretty normal for me, and I would suspect, for most people.

    Also, I too am really only interested in playing video's straight from the browser most of the time, but what are you guys talking about? How do you "download" video's from youtube? I didn't think that was possible.

    skyhawk21, could you do a test with your ram and use the original 2gb 667mhz chip with one of your new ones and see if you get similar results (it should downclock your 800mhz memory to 667mhz)? I purchased a second 2gb chip at 667mhz to add to mine but i haven't opened it yet, so if buying 2x2gb of 800mhz is actually better than using 2x2gb 667mhz then I'll return my single chip and get a new set.

    Also, are you sure the memory is actually being used at 800mhz (cpu-z?)?

    Thanks :)

    Hi, I'm from Portugal and nobody really knows if and when these 1810t/z netbooks are arriving and I have a question.. If I bought this laptop in Spain/Germany/Rest of Europe would windows come with Portuguese or English language? Could the language be changed afterwards or would it be a problem? And how about the Windows 7 version later?

    Got my 1410 from J&R - fine computer so far, though it definitely struggles with streaming video a bit. I put Win7 64-bit RTM on it, runs great.

    Questions:
    I can't seem to get multitouch multifinger gestures (two finger scroll, zoom pinch, etc) working with Win7. Out of the box, windows just recognizes the touchpad as a generic PS/2 device. Installing the alps drivers from acer's website didn't help (and, indeed, mostly seemed to make touchpad response a bit worse - I uninstalled them).

    Also, has anyone found a cheap simple minimalist sleeve that fits well?

    On edit: Actually, I guess it's a synaptic touchpad, not alps. Not sure why Acer has both on their website.
    Also - 800Mhz vs. 667 Mhz ram makes a difference? Can anyone confirm that?

    Another group of 1810TZ photos at the Chinese Benyouhui site just a short time ago.
    The TZ is being disassembled. Quite interesting.
    Paste the Benyouhui URL into Google Translate. But much gets lost in the translation.
    Sample photo...

    Is there a version for HD? I've tried Youtube Download HD but it looks like it converts the HD version into an AVI format rather than the original Flash.

    Also, what's the most demanding Youtube HD video?

    I just swapped in a 128GB SSD into my 1410. I must say.. The hdd mount/design is horrible. HDD only held on by friction with a flimsy ribbon cable.

    @all everyone, who is searching for a fan control:

    I was wrong with my first impressions! It works with SmartFan very fine now!
    The correct settings are:

    0x1F for fan off.
    0x1A for fan low mode.
    0x1C for fan mid mode.

    So far I was not able to find the high mode setting. But therefor the auto mode (0x00) is a good alternative untill the correct value is found.

    Now enjoy your silent notebook!

    Here are the important code lines from my "options.ini":

    [Modes]
    Auto=0x00
    Stop=0x1F
    Slow=0x1A
    Medium=0x1C

    [Schemes]
    Auto="Auto"
    Example_scheme="Stop, Slow, 40, Slow, 45, Medium, 50, Auto, 53"

    Edit: Unfortunately these values are not correct for the battery mode! For Example 0x1F becomes medium mode.

    not to be rude but I think the guy that is doing the smartfan stuff got a bad AS1410, reason being is mine is dead quiet at low fan speed mode and high fan speed mode sitting here on my desk next to me! There is no need for me to use smartfan because my system doesnt make a peep!

    As far as the ram questions are concerned.. ddr2-667 modules in dual channel mode will be of course faster than single channel ddr2-667, reason being its access ram in two slots at same time instead of one!

    ddr2-800 2 modules in dual channel will have less latency and as well run at higher speed so the gpu and cpu really benefit from the 800fsb and ram running at 1:2 ratio!

    Will post screenshots of benchmarks here in a bit! I have not installed my 500gb western digital yet! I am currently running vista home premium 32bit using ie7, tweaked and optimized all services, uninstalled all crap, disabled indexing, searching, windows defender, auto defrag and other things that drag system down. its running top notch and alot faster with duall channel ram..

    I have yet to still tweak the pagefile since vista made it 6gigs, I have not installed any updates that it found on inet during first initial bootup.

    fan is dead silent at low and full speed modes and temps only go from 40-48c idle to load, hard drive temps stay at 36-40c

    There's a quite strong rumor/news going that SU2300 is a single core Pentium.

    @ Skyhawk21, great benchmarks. I'd still like to see Passmark 7 if you can. I merged your posts because consecutive posts within minutes is not recommended.

    @ dirgro, great work on the fan settings.

    I remember notebookjournal refering to a single core su2300 but thought it would be a mistake.

    It seems that last screenshot shows the old single channel results. It looks like the result hasn't been updated, yet.

    It's weird. On Intel's website, the URL is "pentium dual core", but it lists the SU2700 as having only one core. I know it's a different processor, but perhaps these sort of mixups, if it is a mixup, is the source of those confusions.

    Ill work on passmark next then off to bench the battery with the dual channel ram!

    sorry about the posts I would of done one with all attachments but the board doesnt allow more than 6 to be added for screenshots

    Also Everest does say that the AS 1410 does support up to 8gb of ram 4gb x 2 sodimm modules

    @Phil
    I doubt that su2300 will be single core. If it was, it would be identical to that 1.2GHz Celeron and that wouldn't make sense. And let's not forget that notebook.de had 1410 with su2300 and Celeron 723 in their shop for a while and the price difference was 50eur between them. For now all is speculation, but it is very likely that su2300 is a dual core.

    Edit:
    I made a mistake, the 1410 had a Celeron 7 43 at 1. 3GHz, so that makes it even more unlikely.

    Interesting. So Dual channel is only worthwhile for 3d performance it seems.

    Der_Mali, SU2300 has 2MB cache, Cel 723 has 1.

    Phil you mentioned earlier that you'd like to see a comparison between SU4100 and SU2300.

    Do you think if SU2300 is single core indeed it will loose any advantage over SU4100?

    If SU4100 is anywhere from 35 to 50 percent faster than SU3500 (someone mentioned this earlier) and if the SU2300 is dual-core, it should be approx twice as fast as SU4100 - that seems logical right?

    Your thoughts are welcome my friend :)

    If SU2300 is Dual Core (which I doubt), it will be stronger than SU3500 and weaker than SU4100.

    Roughly, in Passmark CPU Mark:
    SU2300 450 points (if single core)
    SU3500 490 points
    SU2300 625 points (if dual core)
    SU4100 750 points
    SU9400 900 points

    I've edited that other post, I mixed 723 and 743 ;)

    Edit:
    But why do you doubt it?
    It makes perfectly sense imo
    The 1410 dual core version has no bluetooth and has the smaller battery, so there is a certain step up to 1810t.
    What makes it all a bit confusing is the 1410-su3500 version the US and Canada gets, it doesn't fit in the European devices scheme.

    Edit:
    Here is the old link to the product description:

    Thanks Phil!

    Strange how if it's dual core it still scores less than SU4100. This is probably my ignorance talking but I would have thought that with '2' processors it would be twice, or nearly twice as fast.

    I was running at balanced power mode in vista 32bit, when passmark started benching it said my cpu was at 1.2ghz instead of 1.4ghz or 1.6ghz

    will rerun later

    also will be testing battery rundown while using winamp streaming music from shoutcast.com and task manager running sitting idle at desktop and see what battery life gets!

    I expect in October. I'm not sure if I'll buy it. I like 1810t a lot but am also eying 12" and 13" options from Acer and Asus. I might review it if I buy it.

    So many options might come. Like Samsung X120, Asus U20 or UX20/30, MSI U200 etc. If you want to stay up to date I recommend to keep track of the forums.
