Thx, but the price really shocked me badi don´t give so much money just for one pair of glasses, especially non-brand.

I was in Best Buy this afternoon and played around with the Gateway 11.6" :
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9370272&type=product&id=1218093001788
It has a WEI CPU score of 2.8. So much for the AMD Athlon L110... not even close to the SU3500. -

der_mali, thanks for advice but I'm not likely to be wearing glasses to use my computer hehe
You're right it may be next year before powerful netbooks arrive.
raydabruce, samsung seem to be the only ones realising that matte is really useful for end-users. Asus too I think, but they make too many glossy ones also.
Don't think it's really practical to have an extra film or something to apply to laptops to reduce the glare. But I understand that if it's cheaper to use/make, then it's a good option for netbook markers.
It's clear that netbooks were really an accident. But it made everyone, including Intel, realise that people want light, portable, & cheap laptops that have long battery life and, hopefully in time - a bit of power behind them. -

Asus to release notebooks on 7 Sept to Europe using SU2300. How interesting!
Maybe notebooks and netbooks??
Competition is heating up nicely -
ok i just got mine, about to put 7 into it. but first i need help creating a recovry iso. i cant seem to find a way to mount a blank writable vitrual disc, can someone tell me what software they used ? i tried power iso and deamon and cant seem to get it

Finally received my Acer 1410 from buy.com aftere paying them for shipping that took 5 business days UGH!
Screen: AUO205C 11.6" lcd panel 1366x768 = super dam bright, screen brightness even accept for tft fade. had to turn down to second above lowest setting to be comfortable for me (I like low brightness and high contrast). The contrast at this setting is still blown out and the gamma(normal for notebook screens) there is the green tint to things at certain viewing angles and what not its kinda weird not to annoying! Everything is smaller due to the higher res! so far NO noticeable dead pixels
ALSO screen does not flash itself off and on when the UAC prompts come up! on the acer timeline series some of the models the screen blanks out, turns off and on within 1 ms when UAC prompts in vista would come up, MY 1410 does not do this thank goodness, I think that was a major bug or flaw!
Webcam: has protective stuff still on it worked though and didnt do the timeline 100% cpu bug where it slows the whole system when used! worked pretty good and smooth at 640x480 for video or pics
Keyboard: is fine to type on just hard to reach the backspace and when i did messed up what i was typing from pushing other keys, I haver small hands and fingers!
Toucpad: not too sensitive works as good as the ones on the timeline series, right mouse button good to go left mouse button kinda of defective you have to push center to inner part of it to get it to click, if you push far end it wont go down to click it! other than that works fine!
Speakers: Stock volume setting in Vista is 75% master volume which the louder sound effects in vista and music and videos sound pretty good and decent on the speakers, i was expecting crappy speaker audio but it works pretty good( could use more volume of course) Yes in the back ground with your ear right by speakers even if muted, if you got GOOD hearing like I do, you can hear analog static noises from hard drive working or the cpu fan going.. its very hard to notice with ears right by speakers!
Headphone jack: used sum cheapo bass ear buds from Koss which sound pretty dam good with lots of bass from audio out, however with the master volume muted in vista and of course with good hearing you can notice analog noises from system working during idle, if system is under full load the analog noises go away in the background, so instead of having a constant static analog noise like on some laptops u can hear the system working with speakers and headphones muted! however it is not that loud or annoying, if your hearing isnt the greatest you wouldnt even know its there! although the headphones do make it easier to notice!
CPU Fan: My CPU fan is dead quiet, when system was first booted up first time it was going IN low mode you can feel lots of air being exhausted but couldnt even tell it was on! then as ive been using the system now for 2.5 hours the fan is going more and more noticeable if you put your ears right by the exhaust but again is not loud at all, it is not grinding into anything and is running smooth and the temps are in the 40s for cpu and system idle or load, this cpu fan is very un noticeable at all in dead quiet room unless its at 100%.
Hard drive: For some reason the 1410 I got has a SLOW hitachi drive, the max read speed was 51 and average was 36 using hdtune! temps are nice and cool at 36-38c and its dead quiet just slow as hell vista dont like it! This will change soon see upgrade section!
Memory: 2gb samsung pc5300 ddr2 running at 332.5 5-5-5-15 timings single channel one slot.. This will change soon see upgrade section
System boot up: first run the system booted up in 30- seconds to the install vista crap and accept user agreements! not bad for slow hard drive
Vista responsiveness: working great uptime from first system power up is now 2.5 hours and no crashes or lock ups or any issues while benchmarking and testing!
Intel WIFI 5100 card: working great, connected right up to my 5g network on a wrt320n newer linksys router at 300mbps using two antennas on 1410, no issues here things stream good!
Battery: was almost fully charged out of box, these systems were just made in the last 30days so battery should be good! havent tested battery mode yet
Misc: using the system stock after vista been running for awhile at idle and doing its stupid crap, i went to hulu using ie7 that came stock, 360p mode window and full screen worked without a hitch! tried 480p mode in a window worked great, full screen not as smooth slowed down here and there!
Went to vimeo did full screen hd videos i uploaded from a canon hf100 HD camcorder and they played smooth after completely downloaded from being streamed, while streaming couple of hick ups here and there!
Went to youtube and played the "Weird Al Yankovic" music videos for his new songs that he uploaded, played HD full screen and after done streaming and downloading then playing 95% smooth!
Upgrades: I have a duall channel mem kit from Geil for laptops, pc26400 2x2gb ddr2-800 sodimms at 5-5-5-15 timings. Will after i perform stock benchmarks using everest cachememtest on stock ram, perform benchmarks with the dual ram in running at dual channel hopefully at ddr2-800 speed over the ddr2-667 speed the single channel ram is running at, chipset does support ddr2-800 speeds,, the ram stock came with it only hazs ddr2-667 timings and speed. This if all works out should help video playing later on! although its working almost perfect now on the one that was shipped to me.
Also I will upgrade to a 500gb western digital blue drive I have laying here as well that should help out overall system speed since the hitachi inside is dragging it down! and that hard drive can reach maximum 80+mbps read speed and averages 65 twice as fast as hitachi drive in this thing!
overall I am a happy camper with this guy so far, no major issues that make me want to pack it up and send it in (unless i find dead pixels!)
Does not get hot at all, no issues like others accept for the very faint analog noises during system idle in speakers and headphones but its not MAJOR! and when system is doing full load stuff goes away weird! hopefully battery lasts awhile! will upload screenshots of all benchmarks at stock settings and then with the dual channel ddr2800 ram as well as the western digital 500gb drive!
Just got to figure out how to do system backup and restore! -
if u figure it out please get back to me cuz i am in the same boat!!! i spent an hour test trying and search for answers and came up empty handed. hopefully i dont have to do out and get an external dvd. or maybe i just so say F it and just install 7 anyways. -
Bump so others can read on latest thread page!

Hi guys,
I have been following this product since the early rumors of it's development. I found this thread during one of many google searches. It has been very helpful and informative. Thanks!
I had really hoped the 1410/1810T would be exacly what I've been waiting for, for well over a year now. I had looked at the 10" netbooks, but knew I wanted something just a little bigger, yet with the battery life and portability of a netbook, all without spending a small fortune. I couldn't find anything that quite fit the bill. Then I saw the Aspire One 751h with it's 11.6" screen. I really find this size to be the perfect combination of usability and portability. However, then I learned of the limited capabilities of it's Z520 processor (not so perfect)!
Specifically, what I decided I was going to wait for, was something with an 11.6" form factor, HDMI out, great battery life, and the ability to handle HD playback (including Flash). Sadly, after reading Phil's review (and all of this thread) I know that last part is problematic at best! So, (once again) I will be waiting, this time for the SU4100 version of this puppy to (hopefully) be released here in the US. I'm just dying for someone on that Chinese forum to post results of a Flash HD playback test!
Anyway, I decided to put up a post when I saw some of you discussing screen glare and such. I thought maybe you guys might be interested in this. http://www.nushield.com/index.php I don't have any personal experience with this product, but found it recently while searching for just such a solution. -

Another option, though more complicated, would be to use a USB key to boot a program like PING - http://ping.windowsdream.com/. You can then create an image of your chosen partition and save it onto a USB key, external drive, or extra partition. You can then use the same tool to recover the partition if needed.
Honestly, though, I don't see the fear of just going ahead and installing Windows 7. People have already reported that the software is compatible, so what is your fear? The first thing I plan on doing when I receive my 1410 tomorrow is wiping out everything, including a recovery partition if there is one, and installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64. -
no theres no options, to make iso, i just want to make it so that i that got myself cover if i want to sell it later. but if i cant find out how i'll just put 7 into it anyways
-
I only mention the following as I haven't seen anybody else mention it...
I was able to get a bit more performance by turning the microphone and all sound enhancements off. This pretty much got rid of the 10% CPU that audiodg was chewing up.
but perhaps it was just me....

I heard the program called "Virtual CD" works to make a backup for this acer. In that program u can put on a virtual blank cd. I dont see a point tho cause there is a recovery partition on the machine from what i remember when i was in the process to install windows 7. Can someone please confirm this or correct me if im wrong.

thks guys...

I just thought of something. I was a BJs price club 2-3 weeks ago. Saw this Acer 11.6". Played with it a bit, thought it was interesting that it comes running Vista. Didn't really pay it much attention, thought it was just another Atom. I had no idea what the 1410 was or about. What was equally interesting was (still is) a $50 instant rebate on it.
I went back there yesterday. Yep it's the 1410, $399 after $50 instant rebate. Very interesting. Didn't this 1410 just come out last week? Why did BJs have it in stock 2-3 weeks ago, with a $50 instant rebate at that?

I got my 1410 today from JR(ruby red) and I pretty much knew I would love it.
To me, its the perfect netbook so far.
- The 11.6"(1366x768) is the perfect form factor.
Small enough but with the higher resolution.
I'd say the dpi for the 1410 is about the same as my 15.6 that has 1600x1050. Once again perfect for its size.
- I love the fact that the battery sit flush and it doesn't budge from the bottom like some of the Asus that sits flush but budge out big time at the bottom. Its probably my biggest pet peeve with notebook. I will never get a note/net book that has battery protrude out. And the fact that it gets ~6hr is more than plenty for me.
- Capable CPU and graphics.
- Price. It has pretty much the same components as the 3810 and those sells for $599. I got this for $376.
What I would change about the 1410...
- Hate the glossy lids. Make it brush aluminum like the HP probook or the Acer 3835. Or make it like the palm rest. Anything is better than the glossy finish.
- Not a fan of the keyboard. I like the fact that it doesn't flex like the Gateway 11.6 I saw at BB but I don't like the tacticle feedback on it. I had the 3810 and while the keys are identical, the feedback on the 3810 is much much better.
- I'm OK with the design but I really think they should have made it look exactly like the timeline series.
If you are going to call it the timeline(although I realize the 1410 is not but the 1810 is), make them look like it. These are pretty much 751 with better components.
- Add Bluetooth but I think some of the higher end model will have it.
I'm pretty much just nitpicking cause like I said, its the best netbook out right now.(in term of performance/price).
I don't see how the SAmsung 510(ion) can compete with the 1410 at a price point of $599. -
-
Some of the factory photos makes it look almost purple.
Thanks if you can! -
I will put some up shortly.
-
Maybe it was the 751 and now they replaced them with the 1410.
They both look identical. -
- It definately does not look any where like pink.
Its a darker red so if you're a guy, you won't look girly carrying it around.
- Look at the close-up pic of the palm rest. Its either brushed alumninum or fake but either way, make the lid look like that instead of glossy. God I absolutely hate the glossy finish. Don't understand why notebook manuf. does this.
- I have a pic of the battery on the side. Barely budge out.
BTW, although the 1810 has a larger battery, are they both the same in physical size ??
- Thats an HP 15.4 laptop in the pic. Thats one of the smallest 15.4 you can find and it still drawfs the 1410.
-
is it me or did they up the brightness control... Fn + left arrow (filled in bright sun) = decrease brightness, which Fn + right arrow (non filled in dark sun) = increase brighter
-
that red looks nice, but its too bright for my liking. i perfer my DIAMOND black
-
Your right on the money, they fed up the stickers backwards!
-
I called to cancel so I can order the blue instead but the lady offered me a $20 credit so I relented.
Red does attract the most attention though. -
@skyhawk21
Nice review so far. I can't wait to see the single/dual channel performance comparison. It would be great if you would test a game also
-
more attention = more robbers :O
-
It just so happened that I tested this Lady Gaga clip, which for some reason is extremely heavy. If I had tested 10 other Youtube HD clips my verdict might have been different and I might have decided to keep it. -
I found one more shops listing the SU4100 model. Price seems to be within $20 of the SU3500 model! Although, this shop has listed the 1410 earlier on, removed later (being an European shop).
I seem to have the first problem with my 1810t. The battery life has dropped quite a bit. Effectively halvedI'm not sure yet what just happened, I may have messed too much with disabling services under the good
-
Last night I had a chance to give powerstrip a try. I wasn't able to add custom resolutions. I did this with other programs before, but the 4500mhd seems to resist the adjustments.
So 1366x768 resolution remains a wish. Too bad it was one of the main reasons to buy a HDMI equipped notebook -
-
That's what my plasma would take. And I think any plasma will take 720p through HDMI. -
I have picture just fine in 720p, but I'm videophile (if there is such a world) enough not to accept anything less than 1:1 mapping on the display
@mali: I've searched a _lot_, Intel only recently added resolutions beyond 720P and 1080p, but not 1366p
Powerstrip seems to be able to do some adjustments, but not enough. I'll check what level of support they calaim for the 4500mhd.. -
Well guys preliminary benchmarks are showing big performance boost after switching out the stock ddr2-667 single ram module which was in single channel mode at 5-5-5-15 timings (samsung brand pc5300 in my stock AS 1410) with the GEIL PC6400 dual channel kit which is 2GBx2 200 pin sodimm modules which were detected at ddr2-800 speed with 5-5-5-15 timings in dual channel mode.
Vista alot more smoother and less page file usage although since the 1410 comes stock with vista home premium 32-bit not all ram pass 3gb is used!
3dmark03 alot better score compared to single channel ram as well, it outruns all timelines as we speak right now with its score so any timeline system with a su3500 processor and the intel 4500hd gpu and the ddr3-1066 ram which is running at ddr3-800 speeds scores around 1600-1650 3dmark03, my AS 1410 scored 1730 in 3dmark03 stock tests at stock resolution got screenshots to show whenever I upload them!
3dmark06 alot better score compared to single channel ram as well....
To Be Continued........ -
And since no movie is shot in 1366*768, it won't be 1:1 anyway.
-
It does take 1366p from my iMac just fine
And the desktop looks gorgeous. Also if you use 720p you'll definitely have over scan and rescaling happening on the TV. I'd rather have one scaling process only and a usable and sharp desktop resolution
-
Well you're right about the desktop resolution.
On the scaling, you TV may do a better job than your PCAt least, I know mine does.
-
Just checking the Powerstrip forums. No answers yet... I might have to dust my hex editor and try to hack the Intel driver
-
Please do a real life gaming test, preferably Doom3 so that we can compare to Phil's single channel results(640x480 medium 12.5fps, 640x480 high 11.6fps), please, please, please
Edit:
Some 3D Mark 03 results for comparison:
3810t(su3500/4GB): 1650
Dell Adamo(su9400/4GB): 1765 -
Hi guys, Im Tom based in the UK. First post so please be gentle....
I have been lurking here for ages, picking up info about 1810t and hoping someone would post a UK release date. I want a notebook for personal use, storing music, internet etc, decent spec and totally portable. I thought the 1810t looked perfect (I have played with a 751 and loved the look of the machine but the reviews were not good and I HATE sluggish computers). I have approx £500 to spend.
I have now been waiting for a month to order one but it does not seem like it is going to be released in the UK anytime soon. Does anyone have any idea of a UK release date?
Alternatively, my Dad lives in Colombus, Ohio so I could ask him to buy one and ship it over. Can anyone tell me the consequesnces of this? Is there additional tax to pay when the item is shipped? I do not mind buying a new kettle lead to charge it if necessary.
OR alternatively (again) can anyone reccomend a similar product that is either available in the UK now or will be very soon?
Thanks, and thanks for all the info so far in this thread on the 1810t/1410. It is a very useful resourse! -
I just ran 3DMark03 on battery with Balanced settings
