The U.S price will definitely be lower, Europeans unfortunately are treated unfairly in the currency conversion and usually end up paying more for the same product here in the U.S. Some times, it is a ridiculous 1:1 conversion, so we pay $500 and they pay 500 Euros!
EDIT: Phil got it way before I did.![]()
Although, they may also have superior specifications just like the current single core model where the European models have a larger battery.

no problem, there are website in europe in czech, germany etc selling them perhaps they can even deliver to the uk but the language barrier even though i can use google translator to see what the websites are about is too much. I really want to get my hands on 1 now
so desperate that i might ending up catching a cheap flying to Czech republic or germany buying one and coming back hehe

I already ordered one, the black version -

djaffacake i don´t know a single one shop here in my country that ships abroad, or even accepts paypal, but the situation could be different in the other countries (CZ, GER)
you could try to buy it on ebay though
i got one question about the COA sticker guys
i know that they tend to wear off, therefore i want to stick something over it. Do you know a transparent material, that i can safely stick over it and it won´t tear off?
thanks -
I have the sinking feeling that in 6 months or a year I'll be following a similar thread where everyone is waiting for the announced "Acer XXXX" and it will have an SU9400, 4GB, 500GB HDD (or an SSD), better graphics chipset and be less than 600 USD. Where does it end? I've been doing this for years.
-
raydabruce the end is, that you eventually die some day in the future
anyways, i have been shocked that Intel Atom has the average performance of the 1810T http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/test-acer-aspire-1810t-352g25n-973/3
therefore my really important question:
does the processor in 1810TZ support Hyper Threading? if not, i think it will be slow as atomcorrect me please, if i am wrong
-
@icefiresr
I've read the review and I think that it(the review) has its weaknesses. Usually they(the Computerjournal guys) are a bit better. They don't even know that the 3G model is for sale already. Their only benchmark is PassMark. Just compare their results to Phil's
Hyperthreading isn't needed on a dual core. Hyperthreading just simulates another core, so no need when there is a physical second core.
The 1810tz benchmarks are very good. I've posted links but I don't know if anyone actually followed them.
Edit:
Let's just install Vista on an Atom and make a benchmark
Acer should have gone with XP and offer a free Win7 upgrade imo
But like AcerTimelineHunter said, the user buys the system as a whole and doesn't expect to have to tweak it. So a 1810t with stock Vista-Acer-Bloatware-Edition is kind of weak. -
In the U.S, is MicroCenter currently the only retail store to be carrying these? I will stop by my store today and see if they have it on display.
-
Here's my results with Passmark
Acer 1810T - 358
Acer 751 (Atom z520) - 165
Asus 1000HE (Atom N270) - 235
Sony TT (SU9300)- 360
Edit: some off topic news: Sony introduces X series: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=414389 -
I've had my 1410 for the last couple of days, there's enough reviews in this thread and elsewhere so all I'll add is my observations and opinions.
As a backgrounder I've been in the IT business for more years than I care to mention, and have worked in support of every MS operating system from MSDOS to Windows 7, on thousands of systems, in addition I work with Linux (SUSE and Fedora) and Mac - mostly OSX.
I read with amusement a lot of pure unadulterated ignorance on here (and elsewhere) about Vista, most of the what is said is a complete and utter crock, and I highly suspect that the critical utterer has not actually used the system, and is doing nothing more than regurgitating something they've read elsewhere.
Needless to say, the 1410 is a great little unit, and when you consider the fact that the Windows 7 upgrade is offered free, then it is a great buy.
First things I did on unpacking and first power up was to go to the MS site and download Vista SP2, once installed, then use Windows update and download the latest service packs and patches.
Next is to update the drivers mentioned on a previous page of this thread in post #1133 - thanks DasFool for doing the work, invaluable.
Next is to "tuneup" Vista - if you want to know more, google Vista Tuneup.
With this done, remove all of Acer's little "extras", and load software. Do not load Apple Quicktime - despite requesting no install of Apples auto updater it installs it anyway and still sucks CPU cycles - get a superior player with minimal overhead - VLC.
Do the same for Adobe products as well, if already loaded, kill the process in task manager, remove the updater via programs in control panel, then kill it again in startup in msconfig. Adobe is one of the worst companies for loading up your startup config, most of it is entirely unecessary at best.
By now the system is lean and reasonably quick, at least as quick as it would arguably be under XP - you just have to be aware of what third party programs are unecessarily robbing from your cpu cycles and either remove them, or not install them in the first place.
Youtube SD is not a problem, HD youtube has intermittent sync issues - nothing major that would retract from viewing though. Hulu is crystal clear, with just the very occasional slightest pause in full screen mode.
My biggest surprise was quality of the video/audio from the HDMI port, it is excellent. I'm a Netflix subscriber and use their free instant view, movie on demand feature regularly, the quality of the streamed movie is somewhere between VHS and DVD, but their online library is now over 12000 titles and growing.
The 1410 immediately recognised the HDTV when the cable was plugged into the HDMI port, I opted to duplicate the desktop, and then logged into Netflix and played an instant movie.
The picture was no different to that played via my HTPC with a high performance video card - so now I have a portable HTPC for my money. Curious I downloaded a few songs from my HTPC's library onto the 1410 and jacked via the head phone socket into my sound system - pretty decent output, nothing like the fidelity of my dedicated system - but more than adequate for most ears.
As far as unit performance under Vista is concerned. I'm running Office XP pro, PShop 7, VLC, MS Streets with GPS, WinAmp and a few other programs -
Not even a noticeable performance hit through PShop when I edit 10Mp images from my camera - resize, resample, crop and trace etc. Simple stuff.
Wireless range is excellent, the 1Gb lan is working - reasonably fast transfer speeds.
My suggestion is that if your Vista prejudice is preventing you trying this unit, you should try it, you may be more than pleasantly surprised.
All in all, a top value, moreso considering that the Windows 7 upgrade is included in the price.
Acer is to be commended for producing a solid little performer, is it a netbook or a notebook, I don't care really, for me at least, it's a keeper. -
Great review zybathegeek.
And I had the same experience running Vista SP2. It was very snappy after installing SP2 and removing bloatware. -
Also you got any ideas how to preserve your COA sticker? Perhaps paint it with the nail thing that ladies use? -
icefiresr, can't help you with the stickers but did they confirm on the phone they will have the 1810tz next week?
-
Thanks to Phil for pointing out that the link to the Chinese 1810tz review doesn't work
I hope this one does:

So i don´t think that they will lie about this one, the shop you can see on their page is directly linked to our biggest warehouse of PCs and components in Slovakia, so i can´t ask the shop directly (which i already did), but i have to call the distributor, but i can´t find their number.
I will try to call them directly, if i get their number -
cool, thanks. Well this is a Vista version so this may actually come next week. I hope you are right.
The only big question I have is how the fan noise will be SU4100 vs. SU3500. The Chinese review says some stuff about it.
"We can say that temperature control is quite good. Room temperature 26 degrees, the CPU core to run the day below 55 degrees (normal Internet office), hard disk 39 degrees below. Fan here in particular to explain that the relationship between estimated BIOS settings, in the external power state Basic turn up the fan will not stop, and to have been medium-speed operation; but if the battery is only an immediate switch to the low-speed fans are not even turn the state in order to ensure maximum battery life. Therefore, the noise is, in the external power supply during the day did not hear much sound basic, but at night when you feel that their voices are large (at least relatively ONE D250 is my little big). while in battery mode, regardless of day or night was very quiet. a long time running palmrest and keyboard Managing the point is not hot, to enlarge the fuselage at the bottom of the legs and no discomfort temperature between about 35-40." -
@Phil
The German translation seems to be easier to understand. What he means is that the fan control is different when in battery mode or connected to mains. It's just like all the other timelines. When connected to mains it runs more often and at higher speeds.
Edit:
Also he got 5h 44min out of the battery while he says that the su3500 version gets a little over 6h. He described his usage scenario in one of the posts. -
i really hate those google translations
i think that it would be possible to regulate the fan software-like, so we don´t have to be afraid of any fan noise -
-
I'd like to add some more observations, my unit is extemely quiet and cool - certainly a lot quieter and cooler than previously owned IBM x40's and Fujitsu Lifebooks, and battery time is also superior.
Build quality appears to be good, time will tell after it's got a few thousand travel miles, and been mishandled by the TSA goon squad.
On that note, can anyone recommend a neoprene slip case with a pocket? There's plenty of cases for the 10.1 and 12", but none for the 11.6" -
zybathegeek this dimension of notebooks is not wide-spread currently, i have tried to search for one too in the last past day, even on Ebay, nothing nice found
guess i have to wait a bit longer, or to stay with a 12-inch sleeve -
My Acer 751 (with battery that sticks out) fitted perfectly in this sleeve:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14660
I'm assuming the 1410 also fits, it would be nice if someone can test it. At $4 including worldwide shipping, it's not a big risk. -
The bluetooth module in that chineese 1810tz is a Broadcom BCM92046
-
oh i totally forgot about DX, thanks Phil
btw you haven´t tried if it fits your past 1810T? -
No I sold the sleeve with another netbook. And I returned my 1810T because of paint errors.
I might wait for 1810tz. -
-
@saltyf
Well spotted
Please post this in the drivers/tweaks section so that others can retrofit their 1410/1810t. -
I think that it´s the only racional choice for a ultra-portable machine, with superior battery life, nice resolution, the extra HDMI, Windows 7 optional upgrade, which are all the things i need with a nice pricetag alltogether in one package.
As a senior student, i could not ask for more. Hopefully it will survive the travelling, especially the case. -
FYI, Meritline has a decent selection of netbook sleeves (10", 12", 14", etc) and are 1/2 off right now. -
-
When I bought the 1810T I knew I was buying it mainly to review it. -
Oh, so if i undestood correctly, you returned it to the shop, where you bought it for painting. Be glad, that you have such shops where you live, here it would be not as easy, not mentioning the fact, that they would never give you the money back.
-
No, it had errors in the paintwork. Manufacturing mistakes, if you know what I mean.
-
oh, now i get it
-
My hitachi drive in my AS 1410 is a 250gb, used hdtune and posted screenshots of becnhmark lots of pages back, old slow drive!
-
I'm getting my 1410 today (if UPS don't screw up). Plannig to use a dealextreme sku.11825 adapter for now, since I already have it. If I decide to keep my 1410 I'll probably go for a BCM92046NMD in the future, hopefully they would be cheaper/easier to get. -
-
Micro Center in Tustin/OC Ca does NOT have any in stock.
-
i took some pics comparing the 1410 to my mom's wind u100 and my 3810t (taken with my N85 please dont complain about quality)

Was the 5 hours 44 mins battery life for the 5600 mah battery or the American 4400 (or so I don't remmber exactly) mah battery?
I would expect higher battery life for larger capacity battery. I'm hoping for 6.5 - 7 hours.
For the lucky few who have these, can you please update us? Thank you -
-
Thanks for reply john. And thank god!
Does anyone know when, or IF, the 1810T will be released in the UK?
I've given up with the 1810TZ for UK release as all the 2 sites that have them now have a late October release for Windows 7. -

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake

Received my 1410 today! First order of business was to install Windows 7 x64 (upgrading to 4GB later, the unit comes with 1x2GB SODIMM and there is an extra bank
). Here's a tip enable F12 in the BIOS so you can select whi ch device to boot from at startup. Win 7 installed without a hitch. Most everything was recognized---audio, video, function keys like brightness, volume, etc. The only driver I had to install was the Synaptics Touchpad Vista x64 driver from their site. If you don't install this, the touchpad skips too much when typing due to the palm of your hand.
I hope installing Ubuntu is as painless.
Windows Experience Index scores (all stock):
Processor: 3.4
Memory: 4.8
Graphics: 3.1
Gaming graphics: 3.2
Primary hard disk: 5.1
More than I expected for a 'netbook'. I was surprised by the hard disk score since it is dead silent. I might not even upgrade it since it is so quiet.
The 1366x768 is a huge improvement over the 1024x600 on the Samsung NC10 I gave away to a relative. I could actually do some real coding on this thing. The LCD hinge has a little play as you move it away/towards you. It is not a problem now, I wonder if it will be an issue in the future. Colors are good and is plenty bright. Viewing angle is decent but narrow. The reflection is not as bad as people say it is, certainly no worse than my Macbook Pro 13" which is too glossy.
Keyboard is good if you're a touch typist. Agree with others that there is too much space in between keys waiting to collect crumbs and other debris. I prefer this keyboard over my Macbook Pro 13" which has hollow feeling keys. I wish the Home and End were the default instead of PgUp and PgDn (can be fixed with SharpKeys I hope). The Esc key is a little small for my taste (important if you're a VIM user) but I'm getting used to it.
I'm really happy with this purchase. For as cheap as these 'netbooks' are, I do not mind upgrading every 6-9 months. The ruby red looks great. -
I can't wait for mine to come tomorrow, the more I read about it, the more I'm excited to open it up.
